although I've heard all on or all off, (furniture legs that is) I actually agree just front legs is fine, though the even boundary, I think, is unnecessary

I would like to add my professional note that rug pad is extremely important in your rug purchase not only to protect the surface under the rug but it actually prolongs your rug investment and rug pads are normally very reasonably priced.
