Such a classic '80s dance video . . . I hadn't seen this in ages, and didn't know until today that the "pencil snapper" boy was Elijah Wood. How fun! No one's mentioned it here thus far, but his role in this video is a parody of the video for Don Henley's hit single "The Boys of Summer." Check it out if you're not familiar with it . . . that, and of course Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video, which the little girls in this clip are imitating.
Such an artist, and so very pretty too!!! I forgot how much fun it was to watch her videos, as were most of the 80's... Best decade for music because of artists like her!
Ah! Who can ever forget those halcyon days when the image became more important than the music and the definition of "musician" changed from "one who performs music" to "one who performs TO music"; the day the music died. RIP music. We will never forget you.
if this video was released today, i wonder if paula abdul would get grief about having those little girls portraying robert palmer-esque sex symbols--life was simpler back then, before Toddlers and Tiaras
@msjx333 why is life always "simpler" 20 years ago. I remember in the 80's and 90's making the same comment in speaking of the 60s and 70s. When you have people, you will always have controversy. It makes life more interesting. :) We just didn't have the internet to chat it up so much.
Brightman and Abdul don't even sing the same kind of music. That's not even a good contest. They are both good singers, but don't put them up against each other 2 different types of singing.
WELL, ABDUL WAS AND STILL IS A BABE, BUT AS FAR AS HER SINGING IS CONCERNED, LET US NOT LIVE IN DELUSIONS NOW....PUT HER NEXT TO A SARAH BRIGHTMAN IN TERMS OF SINGING ABILITY, RANGE, INTONATION AND PRESENCE, AND PAULA WOULD BE UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY, "OUT OF HER LEAGUE" BEING EVEN IN THE SAME ROOM A S. BRIGHTMAN....LISTEN/ATCH SARAH BRIGHTMAN ON YT: FLEUR DU MAL GOTHICA IN HD AND YOU WILL SEE WAN I MEAN.
ABDUL, IS, EXCUSE THE TERM, EXTREMELY CUTE, SEXY AND A WONDEFUL DANCER, BUT THAT DOES
@silicon605 NOT PUT HER IN THE BIG LEAGUES LIKE BRIGHTMAN.S....BRIGHTMAN IS MANY LEVELS ABOVE PEOPLE OF ABDULS TALENT...PAULA IS VERY DESIRABLE, BUT SARAH HAS A CORNER ON ULTIMATE WOMAN LOOKING WITH IMMENSE SINGING RANGE.
I will never forget this song. I was a freshman in college and I caught my girlfriend cheating on me. This was the girl I thought I was going to marry. My friend tried to console me by telling me that our love was never real unlike the love he had with his girlfriend who used to sing this song to him all the time. Then she cheated on him.
Look at Paula's hair and clothes at the beginning of the video. Am I the only one who thinks that style looks amazing on women in their 20's and 30's? Keep your skin tight jeans and short dresses; I'll take late '80s apparel on women, anyday.
P.S.- Anyone have a time machine? I will only need it for a one way trip. 2012 can kiss my butt.
Does anyone else recognize Elijah Wood in this video? He is about my age...30 or so...I have been in love him ever since I first saw him in Radio Flyer...this was obviously recorded a couple of years before that film, but how can you miss those bright beautiful eyes?
@transquilify Considering the success of this song and the fact that it's easily more tolerable than today's garbage, I would say that it's a CLASSIC example of good meaningful music.
This is one of those top hits of the late 1980s particularly 1989, or perhaps the last frontier of the r&b dance genre. By the 1990s more techno hits came to place. I missed the late 80s...
can you see the dislike bar? no? didn't think so. suck on that bitches. haters gon' hate but Paula Abdul will always be gorgeous, perfect, amazing, beautiful and so much more. <3
Love Paula. She always have a soft spot when it comes to children. It shows in this video. One of the children is Elijah Wood. Guess where is his scene? ;)
Janet Jackson, Whitney houston, mariah carey, Tony braxton, Paula Abdul, and Madonna were some of the music artist that came out of the 80s. Even 70s stars like Tina Turner and Cher were also active and making Good music in the 80s.
@sisyphus650. Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey came out in the 90's. Toni Braxton debut in 1992 with the song "Love Shoulda Brought You Home", Mariah Carey in 1990 with "Vision of Love"!!!!

@McAshlovesbiebs92 lol.. firstly that is so cool but weird to think u were born in the mid-90s.. i was born in the early 80s, am totally obsessed with 80s and early 90s music. @mjwible27 Dumbass..CDs were available in 1984, i remember. They even have them in the movie Wedding Singer which takes place in 1985. Since youre talking about VHS, maybe youre confused between DVDs and CDs..CDs are music moron. In 1994, most people had personal computers and AOL came out in 1992 I think. It was expensive like $3 per hour to use. Everything you mentioned existed in 1994.
@gaguy1967 What about Africa? Are you the one who thinks Africa is some jungle? Shame on you! We had a much better life without those CDs, DVDs and what not!
She's so sweet. Dancing in the rain puddles with the kids at 2:53. She can dance, she can sing, she's genuinely pretty, and she's actually a nice person. Where are that pop stars like this nowadays?
Paula had what music was made of back then. Now music is not music, it's just looking good in next to nothing, and all about looks. She could dance, and sing. I used to carry my little karyoke machine around when I was 7 and sing her music like a little diva...I loved it. Still do love it to this very day.

She's so sweet. Dancing in the rain puddles with the kids at 2:53. She can dance, she can sing, she's genuinely pretty, and she's actually a nice person. Where are that pop stars like this nowadays?

I wish I could have been in this music video then--I was 5 years old, around the age of some of the kids in it!! what a classic.

Paula had what music was made of back then. Now music is not music, it's just looking good in next to nothing, and all about looks. She could dance, and sing. I used to carry my little karyoke machine around when I was 7 and sing her music like a little diva...I loved it. Still do love it to this very day.
