If theres one thing Ive figured out from watching so many ATDI videos, its that there is no real way to capture what they did on video. This song needs to be played loud as fuck and it needs to be chaotic and sporatic because thats what ATDI did and only the people that saw them live can ever say they really experienced at the drive in for what they were. a solid motherfucking live band that put on one of the greatest shows rock and roll has ever seen.
asking them to join reunite is basically saying you dont know the inner workings of the band have you thought about Sparta ? maybe they dislike each other and asking to have people reunite that dont like each other for your benefit damm thats pretty selfish and The Mars Volta cant be compared to the ATDI totally different musical aspects !
@klexstar nah man its selfish for them, not the fans. you made this music for everyone to enjoy, you complain that the masses listen to bullshit and then you want to steal it from us? they are all wealthy, better off than most of their fans. would it be so bad for them to put aside their differences and play a damn tour? thats all anyone wants. they dont need to put out new albums, atleast just play some shows. and they have been working out their differences cedrics said hes apologized
Honestly, I know Cedric and Omar don't want to perform as At The Drive-In anymore, but maybe they should think about their fans. How many of us would love to see them live? Just once? I mean, sh!t!!! They broke up when I was seven!
ATDI def blows the mars volta away, the combo of cedric and omar with jum ward cannot be touched, not that i dont like the mars volta, but this band was legendary and kinda completly changed music in my opinion!
Damn am i the only one who thinks that atdi blows the mars volta away? I mean besides having one of the most insane musicians, Thomas Pridgen, on the drums the mars volta is "ok" at best compared 2 what this was...wow.
There's also not countless bands with raw talent and true passion, but hell, I wish there was, why wouldn't I you know? If that was the case the good music would be easier to find. haha
I see a lot of Fugazi influence. The way the singers work together, the stage movement, the funky basslines, and raw guitar sound. I see more hardcore influence than Nirvana. Who cares really. I like this video a lot.
@ChonnyChimole Hence the reason this style of music is generally referred to as Post-Hardcore, a genre pioneered by bands such as The Minutemen and Flipper and later taken to new extremes by Fugazi and Unwound.

ATdi had something special, TMV lost the way, went somewhere else. Atdi was threatening to take it to the next level (In a rock, punk kinda way) TMV for me, is good and all but went prog rock, and that only serves prog rock, it doesn't help the rest of the music, is prog psicodelia all over again. ATdi was threatening to change it like punk did in the late 70's
the biggest crime in rock history, was the break up of this band. we will never know where these guys were headed, and it saddens me deeply. maybe they will be playing live, when i get to hellven!
i remember buying a cassette tape of 'relationship of command' back in 2001 and being blown to outer space with ATD-I's sonic attack. to this day, i can't comprehend the sheer passion and talent these guys had. and to this day, their songs still blow me to outer space... oh well, reminiscing the good ole' days...
if there was shit like this still being pumped out I'd hold a little hope for the mainstream hardcore genre, but ffs all it is is whiney faggots and autotune these days. Kinda sad, this was some genuinely awesome stuff.
@chrisjeffsmusic Too true, fucking fags anger me man, I wanna know wtf happened to the post punk, hardcore genre, shit man tha t raw passion that i hear through atdi is legendary
lol'd at Cedric's voice crack in the beginning. I like it tho! i like all cedric's performances, the occassional mistakes actually sound pretty cool to me. guess im just weird like that.

I just like music. I'm sorry you can't be as open with your emotions, you'll probably bottle yours up to the point where a cardiovascular disease develops and you die prematurely, leaving behind many people.
I find that the longer TMV goes on making music, the more I get frustrated with them. When they're good, they're simply incredible.
But when they're off, they're inane, pseudo-jazz wankery. Omar seems convinced that in order to be a decent prog band you have to create meandering soundscapes that dont go anywhere and Cedric's lyrical style seems to have transitioned from cryptic and metaphoric to outright obscurantist.
Dude, I feel EXACTLY the same way. Deloused was epic but I lost interest after that. ATDI is timeless to me, one of the only bands I come back to again and again.
radiohead, black keys and benevento/russo duo. and of course ATDI. Those are just what have I have been stuck on lately. aside from at the drive in, been listenin to them consistently since 2002
@xXxFatalErrorxXx mmm i think is more revolutionary, a lot more.. I love at the drive in and mars volta, but i have to say mars volta is something different,
@xXxFatalErrorxXx I Agree/Disagree... I think ATdi had something special, TMV lost the way, went somewhere else.
@freymaroto I disagree, I think that in TMV like in most progressive rock bands they´ve experimented and created more stuff, and by doing that they are helping all music to evolution.
But I also think it´s true that AtDI had a more hard-core changing feeling in it.
@freymaroto I don't understand why everyone thinks ATDI "had something special" they're good but Cassandra Gemini is a 35 minute long song in the era of 4 minute songs. And i'm not talking verse chorus 30 minute guitar solo chorus. It's an immensely complex composition. THAT is something special. To sell 500,000 copies of an album with a half hour long song is fuckin history making. And it isn't just prog psychedelia all over again. There are plenty of very unique influences not familiar to prog
I got into ATDI in 2000 when I was about 16 and they were a huge influence on me because the first song I learned on bass was One Armed Scissor, then they broke up shortly after.
See i wish these guys would go back to making music... but i love the mars volta so much at the same time... boy i wish i was born in the 80's so i could have been old enough to enjoy the 90's properly.. i only found out what music was just before the end of this century.. but by then it was all too late....
You know your a musical mastermind when this kind of music is BORING for you
jesus christ this band was and is amazing.... i would not want to see a reunion of these guys.... but more of a reformation for a new album...
they broke up right as i was planning to see them on their last tour.... they just cut it off.... what a bummer.... this shit live would have had me going nuts
I love that, in the beginning, Omar is loose and carefree enough to adjust his pedals... Their live performances were so active and alive rather than scripted.
Finally, a reunion is happening <3

Why this band had to split up, I'll never know why.
jzzbss5 3 years ago
omar and cedric didn't want to keep remaking Relationship is why.

I heard it had something to do with their drugs use too... but that's just hearsay in my ears.

If anybody does drugs it affects there music in some way or another. Anything you do in life effects the kind of creativity you have.

Chilliest Intro to a ATDI performance...
i would give everything i have and then some
to see them reunite just to play the way they did... literally, my ALL time favorite
band.... Period.

Lastima que nunca vi a At The Drive-In en vivo, la mejor banda sin duda

Very awesome.....BUT! This proves that ATD-I plays much better when they're actually rocking out and feeling the music instead of being stuck put. ;]

I love that, in the beginning, Omar is loose and carefree enough to adjust his pedals... Their live performances were so active and alive rather than scripted.

Well, I got into them because I got into The Mars Volta first.
Didn't quite like them in the first couple of months, thinking they're a bit too noisy and because a (Brit-)pop-orien
