Hey Al. I'm doing the same thing you did with the athearn gp38-2 with and athearn rtr gp40-2 i hardwired the Tsunami decoder in and everything works fine i used a TSU-1000 and i did everything and i can't get the shell back on what decoder did you use? and how did you get it to fit haha.?
@CSX1123 I used the Tsunami board not the hard wired. I ALSO removed the old RTR motor and installed a genesis motor. I set it lower than the original motor, i also had to cut some of the frame to make the motor Flywheels fit. i did quite a bit of work in the inside. I just can't describe it.
@CSX1123 Yeah man you gotta remotor the engine to get the best runner. I DO NOT EVER use Athearn RTR engines in my models. Genesis or Katos are the motor of choice. Now I have a perfect runner
Are you going to the Amherst Show this year? I am just getting back into model railroading after being away since I was a young kid. I was thinking about going to the 10:00 DCC clinic on Saturday morning... Worth it or not? In your opinion...
Al, what's your opinion on having just one or 2 locos with sound if the rest of the fleet is silent? Is it distracting? Do you tend to run only the ones with sound? I'm thinking of leaving the diesel fleet silent and getting one steam loco with sound, just to experience it.
Al, are you planning on weathering that gas station, with oil stains etc, I would like to weather some of my industrial buildings and would be keen to see what sort of magic you can conjure up. Had a pile of fun working on rolling stock after watching your vids. Merry Christmas Everybody.
Hey Al, I didn't exactly notice till now, but it looks like your layout is based in Palm Springs to Indio. My layout is also based around there too because I live in Palm Desert !!! One thing for sure is your layout is way better then mine ! Keep up the great work and passion.
Truly awesome work! You bring a lot to the model railroad hobby and you breath much needed life into the hobby as well. I can't think of any reason to dislike this video. I don't understand the haters. Your video skills coupled with the modeling skills which you feature are on par. Since you are a full time fire fighter raising a family and serving your local community is truly commendable. I believe the haters are most likely jealous of what you do and of your actual success in life.
Very nice Al, thanks for the update. Your graffiti expertise is amazing, and so is the rest of the layout. I like those Ace's all lashed up like that, that's awesome.
@swixie123456 I spend time and effort to get it looking good. Guess who else can do it JUST LIKE ME? YOU!!! yes you can! You can sit down one day and spend a few hours on one project and BOOM! You got the same engine or a similar one. I am 100% sure ANYONE with time and patience can do it like I do or BETTER!!!
You did a great job on the 38-2 very nice work BTW how much are those sound decodersand 2how difficult is it for a first time installer Thanks and again nice 38-2 did you paint it too?? Steve
@cvgeeps Also the Tsunami Sound decoder was $79.97 at litchfield Station and to install it was a bitch because I had to remove the old RTR motor, cut out the frame to fit the new Genesis. Then I had to wire in leads to both sides of the trucks, THEN I had to drill out the front and rear lights to fit in the new bulbs. It was quite some work man. Not for a newbie or a first time installer for one like this.
al, you layout is always awesome! your ideas are always great and are always saving money for us out here instead of buying the name brand stuff.you have a really big imagination to make all of these buildings and cars and graffti look real.i always look forward to your video i like all of you brass most of all the ns dash 9 those are gettin hard to find! keep up the great work!
AWESOME!!! Cool gas station. Like the linolium idea. If I can ever get to work on my layout, I'll probably end up using that trick. Awesome job with that GP38. If you photoshopped it into that picture you had of it, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the real thing and the model.
@UP5491 The soda machine is actually a part of the kit. It comes as four flat pieces of white styrene I glued together, painted the white black using a Sharpie then applied the Soda decal on the front. Done. BUT there is a company that makes these machines on Ebay or somewhere. In fact I bought many of them this year for about $7 for 4 in the pack.
Hay looking great.. hope you loving new job..I also have a new job. Now with CSX..I have to start getting CSX stuff and track work eq.. Will you be doing a large fire station now? Keep up the great work..
great vid big al... love your layout and love your work. wondering how things are going with the fire dept ? you loving it. from one firefighter rail nut to another hope all is going well... thanks again for the great vid.
Great video Al! I loved that gas station. It looks freaking awesome! And great idea about using the textured paint for concrete! And the Geep looks pretty sick!!
Great to see you again Al. Looks like you have accomplished a lot this summer but how about running the trains for us? It ain't no fun if the trains don't run. pete
As someone just starting out in this hobby, I don't know what to say. You have one fine setup. Do to a limited amount of space, I will never have as fine a layout as yours. That I know for a fact. But you have inspired me with your how to videos, to at least give it a try. Have a merry Christmas.
@ZookeeperArthur I usually do NOT add interioe details but I will add lights inside of this one and I will most likely add the details once it is installed and I will lift the roof up to put them in piece by piece as well as adding HO scale figures inside shopping and getting gas of course.
Big Al, once again you have set the bar. Love the work, and love that you keep teaching, so don't stop what your doing, and keep living. If we don't get another creation by Christmas, then have a wonderful, and blessed Christmas. Peace out
@IMRROcom I do not understand why in the heck they make my videos restricted for the iPads. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It should automatically be set up to work for them in my opinion. What a pain in the ass. I am sorry man.
