Nice video, I have some questions.... I hear that buying acid test kits from places like Feebay is NOT good. I hear that these kits the acid dose go bad and can give inconclusive results... Finding the manufacture and getting fresh kits is important ? Also how do you preform an acid test at a garage sale, won't that draw some attention ?? Final the Marking act was in 1906 pieces prior to 1906 will not always be marked. Great advice, thank you for posting !!
Great point about moving, Glendon. Not only does not preparing for the move add stress, it's disrespectful to your friends/family who you've asked to give up their time to help you move. They're helping you, help them back by properly preparing so the move takes as little time as possible, Damn, people!
Here's a meant-to-be story that is true-------a friend recommended that I read ACRES OF DIAMONDS and I tried to find a copy at thrift stores and had no luck-------then one day as I looked around at a flea market some thirty-five miles away---there was a small blue colored book in a pile of used books--ACRES OF DIAMONDS--I asked her how much for it and she looked at the tiny book and said "It's too small to charge you anything for it--take it it's yours" And I thanked her and walked away with it
Preparation! I have a story about that. My uncle was in the antique business and his son worked for him at times. He particularly liked Fiesta Ware. One day at an auction, his son sold a grab box of junk that had one Fiesta Ware cup in it. My uncle bought the lot for $4. He then told his son, "That is a presentation piece made for factory VIP guests. It is worth $440." The son of course demanded that his dad return it. My uncle told him that if he had studied the books, he would know the value.
One other thing. I got burned using a magnet...so it's not foolproof. A chain. Swore it was real had 14k.it was kinked so I got it cheap. It was brass.
Can't make a transformation...without an education. You and I could make a fortune. I am an EXPERT on pottery...(because of the extensive research I have done).I have had mind blowing finds. Furniture is not my favorite...however I have an eye. I found this little table at an estate sale. Turned it over and it said..Hosken. Went home and looked it up.She is someone. Made furniture in the 40's. She then became an author. Two tables on line are $2800. I have one for nine bucks. What a hoot! Thanks
@sep7877 do you know anything about Chinese pottery? I recently found a 3 piece tea pot shaped liked a turtle with a insciption in chinese on the bottom. I had it translated its say its for a shoalin monk 40th year,
Stop being racist mate. There are a lot of better things to do other that making racist comments...like learning maths. The guy in the video says 1 out of 30 is not even 4%. Which I think is an acceptable estimation. If you think 1 out of 30 is not more than 1% then I feel sorry for you.
Another tip is when going to garage sales, always carry a magnet with you, you can check if its real or not. If the magnet is repelled to the jewelry then its not real, if the magnet isn't then it is real.
Have you looked into extracting gold from electronics. Alot of high end electronics such as computers\gaming consoles etc... have a large percentage of their value in the gold that's used in electrical contacts. Yet they depreciate to next to nothing a few years after you buy it. Most people when they see a storage unit full of 3-4 year old computers will pass not realizing this.
@rainman1344 Computers usually require gold plating on the pins of various components due to the low noise tolerances of modern microprocessors.. However this is usually electroplated onto the leads rather then being solid gold leads.
ALWAYS look through all the jewelry at garage sales. If something isn't marked but feels and looks like gold or silver, and is marked like a buck. Why not take a chance? After a while you can tell the difference between imitation gold and real gold by how it looks in the light- and its weight. Same with silver. I added my collection of gold up the other day (from 2-3 years of collecting it) and I have around 3k. ^.-
I have a few tips as well. If the homeowners hosting the garage sale have jewelry out- you ask if they have anymore inside. You could say you repair jewelry for fun, or use old pieces of jewelry for crafts. Generally you can't get gold at a decent price at auctions when they know what they have- but if you RESEARCH and DO YOUR MATH you can spend a little to make a lot. Make sure you don't go overboard with spending though, gold is only worth so much.
Glendon, I absolutely love doing this type of stuff. I actually struck it good a couple of times, once I found a 1942 Photo Electric Football Game at one yard sale, and a 1977 Star Wars Droid Factory in the box, it felt awesome. I want to find out more about setting a paypal account as well. Thanks for the good advice sir.
My friend calls twenty minutes before the sale starts, and pays for the lot. He sorts and sells at different paces. Jewelry to gold dealers, then the non-gold bling to pawn shops, and the rest to auction. Special items are put in the trading post. WINNER.
I look at this as severely taking advantage of people. Is that few extra dollars you could make doing this worth the it being on your conscious? Or better yet have to deal with the repercussion after death? I feel by letting the owner of the jewelry know about their valuable pieces will go a lot farther for you than the extra money you can make off there lack of knowledge. Do what you want, just my two cents. ripples make waves, think about it.
@baalisgod666 I'm sure if they knew it was gold it would be wanted. There is no excuse, you know what's right from wrong. LOL at your screen name. Baal is not god. You are on the losing team, funny.
are you saying go to garage sales and buy every piece of jewelry the looks like it could be gold, and bring all of it home at the end of the day and test it? I saw electronic gold testers on ebay and I was thinking that I could bring it to garage sales and test the jewelry to see if its platnum or gold, and if it was buy it. But then I wondered if the person running the sale, would see what I was doing, and if I tried to buy a piece of jewelry, and they would know it was gold and wont sell....
Glendon, your video was helpful..And You are funny too!!.. We just had my Mothers Estate sale back in June and the Jewelry Hunters were out in abundance.. Fortunately the "vintage" and "real" stuff was at my house. I went thru everything and repackaged up all the costume pieces and we only sold about 10 pieces. Everything was 1 dollar.. I never thought to ask for broken jewelry thats genius!!
I have had to move several times in my life and moving SUCKS! I was inexperienced and packed crap we didn't need. So what happened? We ended up getting a storage unit and I did come close to losing it but we did spend money every month on stuff we could have sold or gotten rid of beforehand

More ammunition for those who tell you "Its all over", Glendon. My boss stopped at his nicer neighborhood storage place and asked how the sales went. This week about 70 people showed up, and 2 units were the total sold. $15/$25. This same property had a buyer in April get a 'tool' unit at about $4-500 and sell it at (as a lot) $800. Like you, he also discovered a safe which was hidden. Inside was 20 ounces of gold at $1500 = $30k storage unit biz is over??? not likely.
