I just can´t understand why there are still people justifying the nukes on Japan.
There´s no justification for using a nuclear bomb, not even the attack on pearl harbor.
It´s not only the thousands and thousands of civilians that where killed in one single second, it´s the pain and the horror it caused for so many people for so many years afterwards.
Japan would surrendered anyway a few weeks later, they were done for...
This was just to test the bomb in a real situation and show to the world (especially the russians) that the US had the bomb and were willing to use it.
Yea basically, a few weeks is a bit of an exaggeration though, I would say a couple of months but we can easily say that not dropping the two bombs would have killed a lot less people. But this was war we're talking about, sick shit has to happen, the Japs tore apart Korea and China, raping countless women and mass exterminated whole villages, I know the Japanese civilians had nothing to do with it so thats why we commemorate it as a tragedy, but perhaps it was an unavoidable tragedy.
The "civilians" that you speak of were trained by the japanese military to attack, fight and kill the would be invaders. They were paid the same as veterans after the war. In essence they were not civilians.

There is no simple, easy or quick answer to the disastrous mess caused by 29 years of war, but it has to start with negotiations & withdrawal of occupation troops. If a peace keeping force is necessary, the UN has unfortunately done everything possible to discredit itself, but would still be an improvement on NATO.
Reparations/aid should be provided to deal with the most immediate needs of the Afghan people (food, water, shelter etc); to remove land mines, cluster bombs etc; and to help rebuild the country, AT THE VERY LEAST to its pre-1979 level. This should be provided primarily by the former occupying powers.
Of course, all of that is extremely unlikely. Our governments do not care, & the people are not organised, active or committed enough to force them. This needs to change.

The US made the right decision. Japan would not surrend and stated they would fight to last drop of blood flowed. It would have taken us another year and more than what was killed by the Atomic bombs.

After the shock of the first bomb on Hiroshima, even the japanese fanatics and the emperor himself were sure that the war was over, especially because shortly after the destruction of Hiroshima, only a few hours later, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan as well.
Everybody knew it was over.
The bomb on Nagasaki was simple mass murder.
80.000 civilians and lots of american POWs had to die in the blast just because the US government wanted to bluff the world.

I just can´t understand why there are still people justifying the nukes on Japan.
There´s no justification for using a nuclear bomb, not even the attack on pearl harbor.
It´s not only the thousands and thousands of civilians that where killed in one single second, it´s the pain and the horror it caused for so many people for so many years afterwards.

Japan would surrendered anyway a few weeks later, they were done for...
This was just to test the bomb in a real situation and show to the world (especially the russians) that the US had the bomb and were willing to use it.

Yea basically, a few weeks is a bit of an exaggeration though, I would say a couple of months but we can easily say that not dropping the two bombs would have killed a lot less people. But this was war we're talking about, sick shit has to happen, the Japs tore apart Korea and China, raping countless women and mass exterminated whole villages, I know the Japanese civilians had nothing to do with it so thats why we commemorate it as a tragedy, but perhaps it was an unavoidable tragedy.

The "civilians" that you speak of were trained by the japanese military to attack, fight and kill the would be invaders. They were paid the same as veterans after the war. In essence they were not civilians.

The Japanese government knew the war was lost & therefore offered a negotiated surrender. 1 thing they were reluctant to accept was the possibility of the emperor Hirohito being tried for war crimes & executed. That never happened, incidentally: he emerged unscathed, though much less powerful.
The US demanded an UNCONDITIONAL surrender. If they had been willing to negotiate, the war could have ended EARLIER than it did, & there would have been no pretext for them to use their new weapons.

The Russians had already started to take its revenge on japan by that time. If they would have been left to their own ways,we would now see a divided north and south japan after the complete to ruin and destruction of japan.Lest you know the Russians have no mercy.They wanted revenge for their loss to japan 40 years earlier. It is not American or NATO practice "punishment of civilian populations". I never recall being taught that in Canada nor training with Americans.
We, NATO, do NOT intentionally target civilians or use them as a shield. The Taliban and Al Queda routinely does this. I believe you have the two sides mixed up.
Can YOU honestly understand that?
To be fair civilians get caught up in the mix but it is our desire to avoid such fatalities unlike our foe(s).

If you want to avoid civilian casualties you don't indiscriminately bomb civilian areas, target vital civilian infrastructure & enforce sanctions that deprive the people of food & medicine; you don't use weapons like cluster bombs, DU, napalm, agent orange or atomic bombs. Above all you don't start aggressive wars for control of resources, strategic interests & profit (like the Japanese did in the 30s, incidentally).

By that definition, the US military & its allies are the biggest terrorist organisation in the world. The likes of Osama bin Laden can only dream of having $700 billion a year to spend on slaughter & destruction.

Ever heard of the Geneva convention or the Nuremberg trials? Even in war there are certain standards that should be maintained, IE: not targeting civilians, not torturing, etc.
Certainly, the Taliban are brutal, but that hardly excuses the brutality of the occupation or its equally bad allies.
I doubt like hell you have any understanding of what Communism actually means, so let's not get onto that subject.

A campaign that precipitated a massive rise in violence & 'ethnic cleansing' in Kosovo (committed by both Serbs/Serbian army & Albanians/KLA), as had been predicted.
It may not have been for control of resources, but it was certainly for strategic interests.

NATO should get out of Afghanistan as soon as possible. They are a large part of the problem & not the solution.
There is no simple, easy or quick answer to the disastrous mess caused by 29 years of war, but it has to start with negotiations & withdrawal of occupation troops. If a peace keeping force is necessary, the UN has unfortunately done everything possible to discredit itself, but would still be an improvement on NATO.

Reparations/aid should be provided to deal with the most immediate needs of the Afghan people (food, water, shelter etc); to remove land mines, cluster bombs etc; and to help rebuild the country, AT THE VERY LEAST to its pre-1979 level. This should be provided primarily by the former occupying powers.
Of course, all of that is extremely unlikely. Our governments do not care, & the people are not organised, active or committed enough to force them. This needs to change.

Well it was a most horrific thing to do but the Japanese leaders needed a second atomic bomb to convince them to surrender, they are just as much at fault for allowing a repeat of Hiroshima because they were warned to surrender or else.

The US made the right decision. Japan would not surrend and stated they would fight to last drop of blood flowed. It would have taken us another year and more than what was killed by the Atomic bombs.
