  • For the record, I think Dj Vespers said that he does drink occasionally. If that makes any of you feel any better, but I don't think it should. Some people like George Burns can smoke cigars until they are 90 some odd years old, but obviously this doesn't go for a majority of people. I think the spirit of this video is "be ahead/on top of your game". Do what you will but don't fool yourself. We are not all Hendrix, thankfully (he died at 27). Get to know yourself and your limits.

  • Good for you vespers, I get so down when I hear about my fav producers getting high or drinking to the point where they can't function. You are spreading a good message!

  • Just to give you an example btw, outside the usual Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, etc. stuff. This very non-angry, very postive classic was made during an LSD trip:Tim Maia - rational culture (long version)

People should make out for themselves in what state to make music: Just don't sentence them to be makers of angry music the world doesn't need. That just makes you a scary, moral prick. Which I (still) assume you are not.

  • Sorry dude but this = 100% moral crap. Suggesting that making stuff during a hangover just provides angry music the world doesn't need is wrong! Assuming this would actually be true, what would the music nowadays be without blues and other "depressing" genres to reflect what we are as humans?

Also, you seem to forget that tons of superb and positive music were made during intoxicated/ stoned state, not after.

  • @Drrolfski Look at the comment by @ekiroto above. He responded to this better than I could. Plus, this video isn't about who's right or who's wrong. There is no right and no wrong, only perspectives that you find useful and learn something from, or ones that don't fit for you.

  • @DJVespers Couldn't agree more with Ekiroto. However, you are drawing the wrong conclusions out of his statement .

Ekiroto only suggests that everything you eat/ drink will influence you as an artists and that you should be aware of that. That’s not the same however as your conclusion that you therefore need to be an athlete to create top level music, because that my friend is just 100% moral crap.

  • @Drrolfski Did I really say "you need to be an athlete to create top level music"?

  • @DJVespers At least you are suggesting it to be on the moral high side: "I really like that bit about artists being just like athletes."

  • @Drrolfski Sure, there's lots of well known and popular music that has been created while on drugs or alcohol. But at what cost? Many of those artists were depressed or addicted or otherwise afflicted. I'm reminding people to look after themselves and their bodies and spirits by using those things in moderation, if at all. At the end of the day it's to each his/her own. If you don't feel it fits for you, you don't have to implement the guidance.

  • @DJVespers Music is passion dude. And passion sometimes comes at a cost, Although using Alcohol/drugs doesn't automatically means you are a junkie like you are suggesting. My biggest gripe is though is that you are completely missing the point. You are suggesting: "I need to be disciplined and live like an athlete in order to be successful" which is complete bullshit. Being passionate about your stuff doesn't necessarily mean living like a Spartan.

  • @Drrolfski What I am committed to is encouraging artists to live healthy and sustainable lifestyles that help them to create the music they are passionate about. I don't happen to believe that you need drugs or alcohol to write music. Both of those have a huge cost and end up lowering the user's vibration. In no way does that mean living with the discipline of an athlete, but it does take being conscious of how one treats his or her body. All the best.

  • @DJVespers There's nothing wrong with promoting a healthy lifestyle, I personally would prefer that as well. Just don't suggest it will make you write better music because you have absolutely no ground for that.

  • @Drrolfski What I'm sharing is my personal experience and that of my students. I've observed myself and others produce higher quality results that are more in alignment with their ambition as artists by adopting a lifestyle that leads to a higher vibration through better health. I'm basing this guidance on experience and observation of many people I've coached.

  • @DJVespers Fair enough, just don't present it as a general truth because you have no scientific evidence to back that up.

  • I think this is a great post, and I agree 100%, moderately (reponsibly) enjoying a drink is a fantastic choice at the right time.

I would like to disagree with one point: you say the word doesn't need angry or angsty music and while I don't think it's all the world needs... it has it's place and some of the greatest music of the last 50 years comes from that place. Off top of my head, very-one from Dylan to Kobain to Eno to James have created in that head space beautifully.

  • yeah dood drinking in moderation is a good point but angry music is a form of artistic expression. careful with getting preachy... i love your vids on audio production, very educational.

  • Nice, nice... matter of meditation.

  • I don't drink while making music or playing at gigs either, well I don't drink at all :]

  • I see allot of the comments addressing "alcohol or not?" as a black and white issue. I don't think that is the point. The point is to be aware that regular use of drugs/alcohol (whatevs) affects you and how you live from a wholistic, objective, big picture. So be aware that if you drink alcohol allot it's influence will affect your creative output. Whatever you ingest will (food included). Being an artist is just as rigorous as being an athlete, doctor or lawyer,etc.etc. You have to be aware.

  • @ekiroto Well said. Couldn't have summed it up better myself. Thanks for the comment! I really like that bit about artists being just like athletes. I'm going to remember that one. Cheers!

  • he knows what he is talking about, very good vid!

  • @reloopx Thanks for watching!

  • this planet does need angry music? i believe angry music is the best type of music fyi check nero or summit

  • hm my best stuff was made when i was totally brainfucked by drugs and whisky. just my point of view

  • @MuzikAuto Yeah, I tend to migrate away from the heavy drinkers and hang with the most conscious, healthy cats.

  • Music is my high!

  • what's wrong with angry angsty music?

  • Never had a drink/smoke/drug in my life. :)

  • thumbsup!

I've never drunk for 3 years and very happy with that decision.

  • Amen!

  • I am born on the 4'th of July :P

  • @VGAnxiety Happy early birthday!

  • @DJVespers Thanks mate and cheers for all from the US!

  • excellent advice man, i hope more people begin to realise what alcohol does to us, just because it is legal doe not mean its ok to consume, specialy in large quantities

  • @lizardprince1 Agreed, for sure. We all can make a choice to be healthy, regardless of what our government says is okay for us to consume.

  • you look way skinny in this video for some reason.

But dude, I didn't even realize that the 4th of July was coming up :P.

I don't drink though. No drugs. I'm content as is so why bother?

  • Good video man. Appreciate it. I'm a big raver, and my friends and I all used to get fucked up basically every time we went partying, and in the last month or two we've all started to lay off it a bit too. Sober partying can be great too :D

  • Thanx bro will do u have

fun next weekend and I hope 2 see some pics/vids of it! Rock on man!

  • Im drunk right.now so ya.no excuse.but.man it seriously is refreshing to hear an artist that digs on that too I never create when im wasted its worthless big uos vespers your the bomb never stop

  • @Ephortless Thanks mate. Have a great night and drink a green smoothie in the morning for us both! All the best.

  • I enjoy a drink everynow and then but I'm with out about feeling like shit after getting "shit faced". So yeah when I do drink its in moderation and I only will drink drinks that I like the taste of. With that said I have to end my comment by stating that I pretty much celebrate 420 everyday. It makes me happy =)

  • @youngn420 My personal vice is caffeine. I do love a good matcha green tea latte.

  • Thanks for sharing :-) I agree. I always try to be in a sober mind state while making music. My perspective is mostly that people will be sober listening to my music, as well as on a variety of drugs/substances (alcohol included) and so I find that working from a clean slate allows my music to be more universally enjoyable. Cheers! I'm not Canadian but Happy Canada Day!!

  • @UrpleEeple Thanks bro! All the best.

  • Big ups for this one. Sometimes I feel alone in the world because I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

  • @CollosusXC You've very welcome. Yeah, it's a transition for sure. I've just found that moving to a healthier lifestyle more and more, the drinking has slowly tapered off. Now, I spend most of the time I used to spend drinking, instead connecting with friends in an authentic and meaningful way and making music that's true to my spirit.
