  • i was at one of his live performances recently, and he played this, the moment he started playing that violin the hall literaly started rumbling under everyones stamping feet, it was such a powerfull song that people who've never seen him live would never understand or appreciate.

  • @xxlarkxx nopz, i understand and appreciate so get overyourself.

btw he MINCED that bow up.

  • @WhatKatieDidFirst Yeah, it's like when you see a live guitarist snap a string whilst playing

  • what an idiot mutilating the bow like that

  • @dwaynedibbly When he plays that well, no one cares what he's done to the bow.

  • My Mum & Dad have seen him a few times but I've always said no when they invite me 'cause folk music isn't really my thing, but perhaps I should say yes next time.....

  • oh God I can't believe the state of that bow! XD this is absolutely amazing..the passion he puts into his music is just incredible

  • 10 people can't play the fiddle

  • That's rosin dust, not steam.

  • I'm grade 3 :(

  • ever heard of rosin

  • @addyr100 Dude is doing a live show, he doesn't have time to use rosin after every song.

  • Can I get a clean version of this song?

  • @Markt666 Yeah, it's called Kitty Jay. But the live version is much better in my opinion

  • That was fucking immense

  • It takes a good musician to play a violin, when they get good enough at playing the violin they call it a fiddle, when they get real good at playing the fiddle the bow becomes a junk stick with a wig.

  • "As far as the current crop of songwriters who use the violin as their key instrument go, Lakeman is overshadowed by Andrew Bird, who himself is no patch on Owen Pallett. Aside from that, Lakeman and his drippy nu-folk ilk claim to be contributing to the great tradition of ancestral song, yet in his case this merely masks a paucity of any fresh ideas. Mere fiend with a violin."

  • @sadbaby01, Bollocks yer a folk snob...If ye wanna hear a better fiddler than this, i can only suggest Aaron Catlow Sheelanagig!! yer still a snob! Seth Lakeman is amazing live!!

  • Let's be honest, his playing is basic at best; but saying that, i've seen him live many times now and EVERY time he has got the audience up and dancing like no-one else I have seen...great fun ...

  • A lot of what seth writes is based on cornish culture? but I securely hope he has some success in the USA

  • @JTSmusic Seth Lakeman's songs are all based on true storys, These storys are based on Legend and roumours that are told all over Dartmoore, Devon, United Kingdom. Seth Lakeman started of with his brothers called the Lakeman Brothers singing Folk Music over Devon and Cornwall. Seth Lakeman is a true legend and WILL make it in the music industry ALL over the world :)

  • saw him do this last night. AWESOME

And he's not bad to look at either!

  • @faydiva. I saw him a week ago, he is so talented and agree rather pleasing on the eyes!

  • sends shivers down my spine ^^

  • Those shoulders look like they need a damned good rubbin'. :)

  • I AM AWARE WHAT AN IMMATURE COMMENT THIS IS GOING TO BE!

    he must be some masturbator...

on a side note o.0' jesus he is superhuman

  • you should check out Wolfe Hogan, he also plays violin and sings as well. He's Increadable!

  • highest rated comment.....totally forgot about this I loved it a year ago though and now i think i love it even more looking back on that comment I was such a douche haha

  • i'm a guitarist.... he's good.

  • i love him

    this is my favourite song

that is why they call him the ultimate bow shredder! <3

  • Was the video sped up towards the end? No way... he's not human.

  • more hair hang from his bow than hes got playin the fiddle...lol

  • Good stuff

  • hell! hes got some stamina as well as talent. is he playin the drum too?!!! and how many hairs broke on his bow in that performane lol.

  • @owainyebastards He has a kind of stomp box I think

  • <3 love him so much :D

  • un- fucking- real

    genuis

  • Damn, his bow is properly broken.....he's an amazing musician!

  • that bow has had it. always been a rock fan, still am but when i heard this guys music i was blown away, it LIVES in my cd player in the car

  • Holy shit, fiddle chords ftw XD

  • 'scuse me; where's the fiddle playing?

  • 3 things at once. keeping time, playing the fiddle and singing, amazing

  • Saw him do this last night...Incredible!

  • wow, multi-task much? play the fiddle, keep beat with a foot, and sing. i wouldn't even attempt that. i'd find a way to lose an eye or something lol

  • It's so hard to fiddle and play at the same time.. Really really good..

  • @AbandonedDefiance Second that. It's down to the fact that to play properly, you have to push the fiddle into your neck. Not far enough and you can play badly. Too far and you can't sing right.

    It's just unreal...

  • claps are fuckin annoying

  • actually after playing the violin for some time it doesnt hurt to be playing like that for ages itll ache a little bit but it goes away im hoping to be like him one day or at least some with his status folk king or something love it x

  • he completely fucked up his bow. Horse´s hair have blown up with friction.

  • Wow! That was absolutely amazing! Love it*

  • his right hand and arm must be just totally fucked after this! lol

  • Awsome! It is really hard to fiddle and sing at the same time, I know...I'm also surprised he had any bow at the end. Good job!

  • he has steam coming off of him i have done that once before from playing tennis for 2 hours

  • One extremely talented player. He was rock'n so hard, his strings started breaking. That's epic.

  • Ask someone who plays the violin to try playing Kitty Jay and sing at the same time. I know I couldn't.

  • @penguinsrule23

I can't walk the tightrope but I still expect the people at the circus to be able to.

All I'm saying is he's no more talented, just more attractive. I don't have a problem with that, God no, but I wish people would admit it.

It's like trying to pretend britney spears is popular purely based on the merits of her music.

  • You do have a good point (it may or may not be coincidence that no male member of my family likes him, whilst the rest of us do!), but...

Actually, I can't remember my argument.

But he is a very good performer live.

(Not as good as Bellowhead though!).

  • @penguinsrule23

    I'll agree with that.

He was pretty good live at bromyard.

  • Not as good as Bellowhead, did I hear you say?

Bellowhead commands an awesome presence and there are about ten of them.

Seth Lakeman can be just as powerful when there is just him on stage. You could argue that makes him ten times better than Bellowhead.

Besides, Bellowhead are a bit loud.

  • Not got much to do with music - has it?

  • Comment removed

  • !! Give me a Child !!!

  • Cast away...

  • WOW. Energy!! 5*

  • This sounds so much better than his studio stuff. Absolutely superb.

  • Absolutely brilliant, he is so talented....i've become a huge fan of Seth's in recent months.

I see him perform live for the first time next month and really looking forward to it.

  • I saw him Friday night; absolutely brilliant. You'll LOVE it. =D

  • anyone know what this song is called?

  • Kitty Jay

  • rosin or not THIS GUY IS FUCKING AMAZING

my mate and i were on the bus down to dundee when she told me about him and she had lady of the sea on her phone and it blew me away hes awsome

    babe aswell tbh

  • my god, his bow is mangled (not a euphemism)

  • niiiiiiice

  • OK, just rediscovered the folk-roch thing. This is GREAT and pleeeeeease inform of activity in 09, thanx(denmark calling). I really want to enjoy folk, all along "osa spelmen"(Björn Ulväus/ABBA) to this, recalling Vin Garbutt.... Post post please/Denmark

  • absolute ledgend, gives it all when he preforms...especially au palais des concerts á Canne, dis dude has amazin music absolute genious!

  • damn, he's going so fast the hairs are snapping

  • That's rosin, not steam.

  • He/She is right!

Thats one of the reasons why the bow hair's are snapping so easly, because of the amount of rosin he's actually placed on the bow to make ot stick. So much so its fulling the hairs out of the Heel. (Bottom of the bow)

    Good Man Though...Excellent Playing!

  • yeah but look at the fiddle. there aint much rosin on the body. could be a mix of both

  • Yeah.... but if you look, there IS steam rising up from his back. You can see it in other videos of him, you'd be surprised how much heat a bicep can produce when it's subjected to that much movement.

  • OMG !!!!!

    i fucking love this

if ur any sort of real music fan then you should apreciate good music and a great musician when yoo see it

the thing that gets me about this song is tht i didnt really consider it my sort of taste

bt i was soo wrong....yoo jus have to appreciate it when you hear it and if yoo dont in my oppinion you are not a real music fan

anyway seth lakeman = fucking living musical genius :D

  • Now that's how a real musician performs. That is absolutely amazing!.

  • I saw him live at the start of the week, and the moment he started playinh Kitty Jay, we all went absolutely mental :)

  • HE IS AMAZING! i want to marry him! saw this live last night....ooo shivers!

  • Should have read Greek Pontian music.

  • Oh my God to the power of 2! Awesome. If you like this sound check out greek ponian music here on youtube; we are all celts mate!

  • oh...my...god.

  • he is amazing and we saw this live and we don't know it's name do you? and can you tell us please ps he is amazing live if you can go and see him !!!!!!!!!!!

  • its kitty jay search him on itunes

  • Man...he is so good! That is nuts! Great song too!

  • I'm amazed he managed to finish Kitty Jay with that bow! He's brilliant live

  • lol musician? more like athlete lol his arm must have been burning!!!!!

  • God, his poor bow! He must keep spares ready when playing gigs or he wouldn't make it to the end!Sounds cool though

  • Is that what all the stringy stuff hanging off the end is? Wear and tear on his bow?

  • yeah, it's the hairs on his bow all broken, i'm guessing over half of the bow hairs were buggered just from that solo...worth it though!!!

  • he does it for effect...buys the shittest bows he can find and trashes them. Not my ideal method, but it deffo works for him. Luv it....but u cud nay break all htose on one solo...obvs just left them on....bow endurance test perhaps?

  • Now it makes sense, because even decent bows won't lose their hair like that. He played fabulously though, and it did add a nice effect.

  • It doesn't matter of how good the bow is! A good bow anly makes a better balence and control for playing!

You could get a £1000 bow and it would do the same thing...just press hard and put load sof rosin on and it will do the job

  • stonking!!!!

  • Haha, he needs to rehair his bow after every song let alone gig!!! This song is truly incredible, the live version pisses over the studio one

  • that is great how can he move that fast!?

  • I think he´s amazing!! I´ve never seen someone play like this before.I hope to get the chance to see him someday

  • what is the original song called?

  • Its Kitty Jay isn't it?

  • It is indeed!

  • a fiddle played badly is awful but a fiddle played well .... what more can i say amazing

  • He has a great groove, and it's very hard to play fiddle and sing (speaking from personal experience.)

It looks like he must need a rehair on his bow after every concert....

  • That is some hardcore fiddling from Seth. Not only did he destroy his bow in double quick time but you can actually see steam coming off him as he plays!! Impressive!!

  • pfft, damddwarf, you have no idea what your talking about....first of all that guy is frigging amazing, cause its ridiculously hard to play the fiddle(especially that good) and sing....and second, you oviously have never tried to play the fiddle cause if you realized how hard of an instrument it actually is to play, you wouldn't make stupid remarks like the one you had just added

    seth lakeman is incredible though

  • i've had a piccy wiv seth.ive also played on violin n i now realise how hard it is to play dis!!!!

  • I saw he's gonna need a new bow.

  • wow... when will i learn to do that?

  • THE SEX!!! saw this at the leeds met gig last week...amazing!!!

  • I remember it well - I was about two rows back from the front, right next to his would-be harem. Stunning stuff. I'm going to be at Regents Park Open Air Theatre and I can't really imagine what it will be like actually sitting down through one of his gigs.

  • Amazing!! Title of this one is kitty Jay.

  • Awesome!
