this dude made a exercise for the drumline im on back when he used to come and instruct.it was before i went there i think. he did at 200 and somethin beat. FUKIN INSANE!!!
Yeah, the dude got pretty old. I met him a couple weeks ago when he and Collin McNutt played at a Day of Percussion for high school bands in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He was still able to do some cool stuff and seemed like a nice guy.
Nick is a great guy, I went to college with him. He worked very hard at his craft. His weight always did fluctuate a lot as did mine. I know that when I graduated college and started getting a decent paycheck and was teaching all the time I gained a crap load of weight. Blast! was the thinnest I ever saw him, so don't compare him to that.
Not too many people know that his sister is an amazing percussionist in her own right. Great timpanist!!
he may be the most showboaty full of himself percussion director for any corps. honestly when i auditioned for madison this year i didnt even want to come back because of this guy. he starts playing one check pattern then decides hes going to keep going to others and pretty soon hes back sticking and throwing in random rudiments. 10 minuts later when hes done then we could actually start playing again
I was taught by this guy...and let me tell you, the dude can still throw down...he's nothing like he used to be, but thats still a shitload better than a lot of people...have some respect.
Does anyone find it disappointing that his "taps" are nearly 9 inches?
I used to work so hard playing rudiments extremely slow for a long time to get good sounding taps and diddles at 3 inches and I see a guy like Nick playing such high taps.
It is probably because he is teaching. When people like this teach, they over emphasis their movements so their students can see every stroke. If he were performing, you'd see much smaller taps
dude he came in one day to instruct our drumline, and hes so good.. he took one of my quad sticks and smacked and killed a bumblebee out of the air. and he made a bass drummer cry. hes also the biggest boss that anyone has seen thus far
@jjmachuca He aged out in 95 with Blue Knights....I know, cuz I was there 2..and aged out with him, Jeff Queen, Maurice Groen, Kris Hartman, Steve Ridley, and Doug Maake
yeah, he also teaches Bellbrook high school on the side. i hung out with him this weekend and yeah...the years haven't been good for him. but he can still play somethin' fierce and def. knows his stuff.

Any good explanations for this?
