I have to say the ref went after the cornerman who was walking away from the situation. The ref grabbed the guy. they cornerman pulled away and was blasted for his efforts. With that said the cornerman had no business in their arguing a call.
@Super8astard I see your point but don't generalize like that. This isn't UFC or Bellator and wasn't WEC or Strikeforce. It's indie fighting and that kinda shit happens. The ref didn't need to hit anyone but who knows what that idiot (who's mad over a fair stoppage) was gonna do.
so funny how guys think just cuz they know an amateur mma fighter that makes them an mma fighter too, well the ref is also an mma fighter apparently...
Actually the ref put his hands the guy, the guy was pulling his hand off. He couldve handled it better instead of knocking him out. But it was a perfect Cheap shot
Do you just lose your chin with age. I've been molly whopped with some serious sucker punches to my chin or jaw... and it usually just pisses me off but I'm only 20 so.......????
Lol Ahhh... Casey Oxendine, always entertaining but in his defense the guy brought it on himself. Everytime I've run into casey he's an incredibly laid back chll dude so this guy had to have crossed some very big lines, but food for thought, don't attack a pro fighter when you yourself are not.. just saying
1) I know Casey by his repute alone, much of it from a former student of his (my wife). All I've heard about him is that he's a class act and a gentleman fighte, *NOT* a guy who decks a peer for daring to question him. 2) Right or wrong, this ugly scene was made possible by the cornerman barging into the ring and going after the ref like some douche-nozzle jock dad whose kid was called "offsides" at a LIttle League soccer game. I'd love to know what he hoped to accomplish with that crap.
This is out of hand. The heat of the moment that I'm sure all parties regret. I'm not clearing anymore comments and I might start clearing most or all comments.
stoping the fight wasent the problem, i was there at the expo center in knoxville. the corner man was pissed cause the ref allowed a couple of shots to the back of the head.
I didn't really see any back of the head shots. There could have been a "couple" when the guy was on his knees trying to scramble but they were by no means intentional. There's not much the ref could have done in that case. He did just fine.
Funny reading all the comments regarding the aftermath though. Not sure what to believe, lol.
The guy got his ass kicked in the fight. Great Stoppage. Second, if you are a respectable cornerman then you would never argue that fight. Third, more people need to be held accountable for their mouth and actions. Talk Shit and get hit. Casey has established himself as a respectable training, grappler, fighter, and school owner.
my point exactly stupid. you said it yourself TP4GREEN. the ref grabbed his wrist. thats what happened. he went after the cornerman as he walked away then grabbed his wrist then sucker punched him. the last thing that guy expected was the fu%king ref to hit him.
i was at the fight , the cornerman pushed the ref after the ref grabbed his wrist and in a heated argument when someone is cursing me and pushes me im gonna knock them the fuck out so what do you think the ref thought was about to happen
The guy that got KO'd never fought Casey in a bar. I train at Team Ox and Casey is my trainer. Casey didn't need 2 minutes of spotlight either. He has plenty of publicity without this video. Get you alls facts straight before making Team Ox look bad. The cornerman was in the wrong because Casey apparently stopped the fight too earler according to the cornerman. Casey felt as if he was about to get hit, and he did the right thing and acted in self defense before he got hit.
I know of this cornerman personally. Mr. Hays did get KO'd there, but about a month ago he met this ref in a bar and returned the favor.
The ref was completely out of line regardless if he felt threatened. If he felt threatened he should have backed away from the situation rather then escalate it by KOing the cornerman. Dumbass should be fined and suspended.
Dude, you're both a couple of tools. Your boy got knocked the hell out for running his flaps to the wrong dude. Shoulda stayed hiding in the corner where he belongs.
Kory Hays was my trainer and I fought in a fight that night I was there.. feel free to look ay my video.. The ref was totally outta line he stopped kory from leaving the cage and started that shit and YES they met a month ago and oxedine now has a nice little mark on his face.. hays would kill oxedine inside of 30 seconds.. none of you know what the hell you are talkin about cause you dont know these poeple.. your all a bunch of pussies who like to talk shit!!!
Outstanding display all around! TN just legalizes MMA and this is the example that gets set for the sport. Way to go guys! You all make it look like legalized cock fighting, the crowd included. How close is the Expo Center to Newport?
Dean is a very good up and coming fighter and will do big things in MMA before its all said and done with !!!
Badcock007...the shitty thing is , when this fight took place MMA wasn't even legal in TN yet ..lol...Dean Hamilton , the guy who KO'd the guy in the REAL fight is a friend of mine ....
Stevelea, I doubt very seriously that this guy whipped Casey Oxendine in a bar fight a month ago!
that was an overreaction, think the ref. just wanted his 2 minutes in the spotlight, otherwise i can´t imagine why he hit this guy, i mean they were just talking for some seconds... think he´s an ass!
Wow, Dean worked soooo hard for this fight. I even went to live with him for two weeks to give him a live in training partner. It sucks so bad that the only thing people comment on is Kasey knocking this guy out. Good job Dean & Fit Factory........
Kory was my corner man because i fought and won by KO that night as well as he is my coach and is nothing less than respectable, what the ref did was insulting and completely unjustified and totally blindsided kory, there was no reason for that whatsoever. kory was trying to tell the ref that dean was striking to the back of the head which of course could be argued either way but the ref was rude and insulting and decided in a moment that his words werent enough and sucker-punched my coach.
That was a textbook left, so much so it cant be seen, Probably the best punch in the fight... A "Sucker Punch" is from behind or the side.
Better yet as soon as someone steps in a room or a doorway...cornerman is digging his nails in the refs arm and trying to be all "big" and got popped, What a cupcake!
obviously you dont know what a "text book" punch is, no matter where you are standing if someone throws a punch and you dont know its comin... you are a sucker!!! i really hate people that dont fight try to commentary like they are fukin frank mir... tell you what... i fight again on november 8th at the same place, why dont you come and see what its like to play with cupcake? :)
why was the cornerman mad anyway? it looked like his fighter got dropped fair & square. And if you put your hands on someone they can defend themselves.
Looked like a really well called fight. It does look like both people were in the wrong. The cornerman should show some composure/sportsmanship and not hassle a ref in the ring after a fight. And the ref shouldn't get involved in the mudslinging. I mean he's a ref, just make the calls and stay out of the way unless A)you have to break something up or 2)you are defending yourself. Just to add, if someone puts their hands on you and they do not expect a mouthful of fist then they're just dumb.
MIZBEAVER you and all 10 of your friends must have visited the "Bud Lite" table one too many times. I was 20 ft away directly in view of everything very clearly. I didn't drink beer. That cornerman was WALKING AWAY dude. The ref acted like "How dare you dissagree with me, how dare you tell me off" and went after the cornerman pointing all up in his face & chest. Then you clearly see the ref grab 1st his bicep then his forearm. Are you blind man? Watch the freakin clip man! and your 10 friends.
I sat front row,& saw everything that happened. The corner rushed in,was complaining about a call from early in the bout. They had words,it looked like corner man was walkin away as ref was explaining, ref tapped the guy,the cornerman looked ticked off that ref wasn't seeing it his way,& at this point, cornerman pushed on refs chest & when he did,the ref knocked him out cold.Out of every person that was there(10 in our group on the front row) EVERYONE said the ref was 100% justified in his actions.
Funny that everyone knows who kory is but no one knows who the ref is... Casey Oxendine. And the ref was trying to stop kory from touching, grabbing and poking. I just heard Casey say yesterday that you have the right to intelligently defend yourself. I wouldn't have done that, myself... but...
This is hard to watch.....the "corner man" is one of my good friends. I wasn't there I tried to get tickets from him but he said they were all sold out. He said what happend was he was pissed off at the ref about the fight and the ref started poking his finger in his chest and he hit the refs hands off him and the ref punched him in the mouth...givin enough strength it'll knock you out as u can see. He is very pissed off about this, he tried to go to the parking lot to find
Yeah, the video makes it hard to see exactly how it started, but now that I look again it looks like the ref was actually the one that pursued the corner guy and escalated this situation...hard to tell though. So, from anyone that was actually there and DID see how this happened, lol, what happened?
We take full responsibility and apologize to both Casey and Kory for
allowing either man to be in the position each was in. We are now putting this behind us and looking forward to our next event in the near future. ACF Staff
We also did not establish a protocol to follow after each match. It is our responsibility to ensure the referee's safety and wellbeing. It is his responsibility to call the matches as he sees them, not to have to defend those calls, or himself, after the match. We allowed Casey to get into a position where he felt threatened and he reacted. Our procedures are being changed to ensure this never happens
Fines and suspensions are being levied for all parties involved in accordance with each one's involvement in this incident. However, I still have the utmost respect for both men because the blame for this situation ultimately falls on us at ACF. We didn't have a system in place for cornermen to voice their complaints about referee's decisions or
calls. Therefore Kory's only known option was to voice those complaints directly to the referee.
Continuing to antagonize and belittle either man only preserves negative emotions. Both men have given a lot to, and still have a lot to offer the fighting community. Both are intelligent, humble, and skilled individuals who are fighters only by trade. I have no doubt that when these two meet their difference will be resolved verbally, like two
grown men. Our board is taking appropriate actions.
Wow, alot of different views on this. Who pushed or pulled first cant really be seen and doesn't really matter now. What would have happened or what was about to happen could be debated from now on. What can't be debated is that both of these men deserve more respect than either is getting from
those with opposing views. I've known Kory for a long time, and have also developed a good friendship with Casey. Both men want to put this behind them and move on.
I do know that if Kory could have passed a physical, which he cannot because of a heart condition, he would have been fighting as a pro boxer or NHB pro many years ago. It's very unfortunate for all of us that we can't watch him do what he lives and breathes for like so many of can. Let's all work together and put this behind and move on and show the world that Tennessee is serious about the MMA game. And that the shows are gonna be the best and most professional in the game.
Yeah, not sure who thinks they know Kory's life story? The info they posted was incorrect. But i'll you this...his skill level is world class in every aspect in any area of the NHB game. He has at least 10 years of hardcore NHB training from Mr. Hatmaker. Many will tell you he's a beast and he has done many great things to make the sport excel with his unlimited knowledge.
iam pretty sure they are descent people who s emotion got involved in the heat of the moment . but its that type of shit that still give mma a bad rep.
My company had the fortunate opportuntity to be one of the primary sponsors of this event. I would like to compliment the Absolute cage fighters for remaining professional and keeping their composure during an obvious time of injustice. Im outraged by the lack of judgement and restraint by the offending refree. His act was far short of professional and demands that action be taken for removal from any future card. Overall this venue was a success and I look forward to future endeavors.
I saw lots of video cameras in the house that night. Does anyone have or know of other footage ? Like maybe on myspace or something like that? Just curious about a couple things , thats all. I am not saying another thing about the matter. It was a great night. Period !
This is absolutely rediculous. That guy shouldnt be allowed to attend another event...ever. Here is another bump in the road for sanctioning in Tennessee. I must say however, I saw the guy with the mohawk fight at the Harley place on Clinton highway and was kinda impressed, and I'm even more impressed to see the other guy take the fight to him the way he did.
We need to let this situation lie as a HUGE MISTAKE and not further promote it! MMA in TN is something we all need as fighters and fans. It's bigger than this unfortunate situation. I promoted the first event in TN in 2000... Most of you don't even realize just how many hurdles we have jumped through to have an event. Please let this die if you want to see a future for mma in our area! We need support.. not obstacles. Good job Mendon and Dean for showing the fans a great fight! Last post/ Gene
It was an unfortunate situation that may have set us back as we R just getting things legal in the greatest sport in the history of Earth & every1 needs 2 just drop it so we can move on.Any1 that has a problem with what I have said is welcome 2 fornicate themselves with something rusty. Thanks
Im sure he's a very humble man who's emotions got involved as well as Casey's. We are in fact all human and this is something I know all parties would love to erase. I was extremely proud of Dean when he showed resolve in an extreme situation. The mark of a true martial artists. He completely dislocated his finger yet tried to help calm the situation... not take sides... just enjoy his hard trained/fought win.
Kory asked him 2 not touch him looked down 2 let people come in the ring & as I jumped in Casey pulled Kory's arm down & proceeded 2 strike him in the face.I don't know Casey personally so I can't speak 4 him & his team but I do know Kory & the CageKiller guys & all of our wins that night speak 4 us.Well, not mine,I hurt myself like a re-re & couldn't do anything. But the others were impressive.
I would first like to give Dean congrats on his win. This unfortunate accident took place that overshadowed his win. My name is Gene Click and I am Dean Hamilton's trainer. I would like to let Mendon know that we respected his ability as a fighter very much and trained for him greatly. The high kick of a flurry of straights was something we worked to a point of nausea. We would never violate any rule or disrespect an opponent via a rule violation. I don't know Cory personally.
O.K.clowns & uneducated onlookers.I am the guy that jumped between them 2 nullify the situation, just a minute 2 L8.I had a pretty good view of things. There was a dispute as 2 whether or not there was a strike 2 the back of the head.Kory approached Casey with his argument & walked away.4 whatever reason Casey felt it was necessary 2 assure him he had things under control @ which point he was poking Kory in the chest.
We all need to accept what happened and just let it be. Ox has said his peace. We need to however, as a group of spectators respect this sport and enjoy that it is finally legalized in Tennessee. And thank you for deleting my previous comments Vitaboy. Shows your true one-sided nature and speaks volumes about your character.
Dude I deleted a coment because it was used words that kids should not read. I saw and remarked on how I saw both sides point that just got out of hand. Now you want to attack me and still use words like sh%&t. Come on now.
looks guys, ox does not want or need some dumbasses speaking on his behalf stirring up unneeded shit. Trust me, he doesn't feel like a world champion by his actions. Dragging mr. hayes in to this situatiaon that is fueled by his own ignorance was just a plain and simple mistake. Mr. Hayes is the apprentice to Mr. Hatmaker which is a world reknown martial artist. So talking trash about these two is just pointless and juvenile
I was at the grappling tournament earlier that day and a couple of my teammates fought that night that was a little out of control they should limit who can get in the cage and have people at the door to prevent that from happening but that was still a crazy knockout and that kick didnt look illegal to me
And the ref stormed right through the 2 fighters as they were shaking hands and talking to eachother. Once he got up to the cornerman (who was clearly walking away) the ref grabbed his bicep first then his forearm. What is really unfortunate is that the cornerman had no ligit point. I didn't see anything illegal done in the fight. Hats off to the winner! He was relentless! Thats how to finish an MMA fight! And props to the ref. that was one of the best punches I have ever seen in my life.
Thanks 4 the re-write. Cory was walking away. Walking talking and shaking his head. Still no reason to touch. It was loud and Casey touched him to get his attention to make his message be heard. Wrong move when anger is high in the air. It just got out of hand. We as fighters have a problem walking away when we feel we have right on our side and we get ticked off. If they can match weight, This would be a great future match.
hey vitaboy64, my bad bro. i wont SHOUT or use bad language. I just want to know what clip everyone is watching? Whoever is saying that the cornerman is doing something with his rt hand is nuts. Whoever is saying that the cornerman touches the ref first is nuts. I was there also and before he even punched the cornerman I said to myself, that the ref looked pissed. He aggressively pursued the cornerman pointing and shouting in his face. All this is crystal clear on the clip man.
I just removed 2 comments from one person. I respect his views on the matters. However, I will not allow SHOUTING or foul language. Casey posted his side on his actions. He is human and felt he was in danger. This is not baseball. If it was, Cory would have been put out as he was being told he was. Cory walked away making comment. Casey followed to let him know he was banned for the nite. Casey could have let another official tell him. But he was still doing his job. Next time don't touch.
I do not expect everyone to agree with my actions. However, it is what it is. Had I been given the time to think the entire process through, I certainly wouldn't have wanted things to turn out this way . But as it stands, I made a split second call to ensure that I wasn't the one laying face-down on the mat.
I was there and have watched the video over and over. He clearly touched you with his left hand first. He brought it up again and you parried it away with your right. What is hard to see from the video, but clear from my seat, was Korey pushing you with his right hand. I totally understand your action because when I was there it looked like he was making space to throw a punch. I think most of the people who saw it in real time understood your actions. Godspeed in your career.
that emotions can flare in the heat of things, but I simply felt his words toward a ring official were unacceptable. I acted, in turn, by barring him from ringside. It was his actions that elevated the situation to what it became. I was not acting in anger, but in self-defense. Please note that throughout this entire process I never even raised my voice.
am disappointed that this nasty scene had to take place during such a trying time in the state's struggle for MMA santioning This is a sport that I truly cherish, and would never intentionally make any actions to hurt it's reputation. As far as the cornerman (whom a later learned was Corey Hayes), It was never a personal issue against him. I understand
by Dean Hamilton. After leaving the cage, I immediately exited the building. Although I wasn't there, I was informed that the Kage Killers team was involved in another fight with a different group after I had left. While it can be argued that the referee's job is to de-escalate an aggressive situation, I am still a human being. Having said this, I
was possible to ensue from there. I did not know the man in front of me, or exactly what he was capable of. As well, I saw no security or other officials in our immediate area. With self preservation in mind, I did what I felt I needed to. After the incident, I was immediately assaulted and dogpiled by 3-4 of his teammates, before being pulled out
leave the cage immediately and not to return. At this point he planted his feet, squeezed my forearms and shoved at me. Realizing I was dealing with a trained combatant in an irrational state, I reacted instictively to defend myself. Having trained nearly everyday for more than a decade, I understood his aggressive posture and what
an official, that he would be barred from ringside for the remainder of the event. This was not done to provoke a fight, but rather to ensure order in the cage. Before I could finish, he yelled back not to touch him and shouted profanity again. With my hands open at chest level, blocking him from pushing forward back into the cage, I told him to
after the strike was thrown (you can see me rotating my finger in a stirring motion), making it a fair kick. Before I could finish explaining, the cornerman made several profane comments toward me and turned to walk away. At this point, I tapped him on the shoulder and explained to him that because of the disrespectful manner he was speaking to
After reading the comments posted here over the last few days, this is my perspective of how things went. After taking several hard shots from his opponent the Kage Killers' fighter dropped to a knee, forcing me to hault the bout. The Kage Killers' cornerman then entered the cage and began to complain that his fighter had been hit by an illegal kick to the back of the head. At this point I explained that his man had turned his back
Hey! If Cory is so bad why has he never actually had a fight in the ring. Casey's record speaks for itself Cory has no record. Casey on the other hand has never lost. Ha HA. Just imagine the name cage killers. Maybe they should have trained to fight fighters or reffs for that matter, not cages. Its too bad Cory is a never was. Maybe he should have watched the videos he was in a little closer or learned to be quiet a little more.
Cory has heart conditions which is why he cannot fight cage fights...but Cory is also a expert BJJ trainer who is a world champion in BJJ. Maybe you should learn some things before you pop your mouth off again
Bottom line:Referees are not supposed to be fighters. Their purpose is to make sure the rules are followed and maintain order in the ring. If you want to fight-enter the match.
The video clearly shows Kory walking away while Oxendine followed him. Oxendine kept on to the point of even walking between the two fighters shaking hands to get to Kory. You can also see him grab Korys wrist. Kory resisted, then was sucker punched by a ref. Shameful!
I can't believe Casey Oxendine would risk the MMA Law that was just passed. I live in Johnson City and have heard good things about Casey and the Oxendine Camp, but it's hard to believe he'd risk it for everybody. I know the corner man Corey Hayes and he is a standup guy. What Casey produced was just unprofessional and pathetic. Whoever thought Casey should fight a bout with Corey Hayes... haha that'd be a bad idea. Corey has more class to even deal with Casey's bullshit.
If half of you actually look at the Ref when the corner man walks back to the cage door, Casey Oxendine grabs the corner man's wrist pulling him into him. This caused the corner man to push back with his right hand to push Casey away. Casey held onto the corner man's wrist while twisting it and sucker punched him once on the jaw and miss with a left hook. Watch the corner man, Corey Hayes, legs(specifically feet) when Casey pulls him in. Obviously the ref is unprofessional and hot-headed.
You don't seem to notice that Casey's right hand is between him and Corey before the grab. Corey tries to parry it away twice before Casey grabs it. Why would Corey need to do that?
My guess would be that Corey was trying to create space so he could hit casey. He had already shoved him 2 times at that point. It was a reasonable leap of logic that he would escalate it. Casey just beat him to both the proverbial and literal punch.
The corner man was the one who started getting on the ref physically. No player or manager should ever touch an official, the official should not have done anything either, except to warn corner to back off or be escorted off. Both the ref and that corner man should be banned from any other events for a set amount of time or permanent.
after thought : Fighter that "won" did an illegal move and there was no call about it...bad ref, bad.
I agree that he should not have escalated the situation in the speed and manner that he did. However, I was there and it appeared to be a defensive reflex and he appeared genuinely upset that the entire event took place. I think he was doing a good job up to that point. The coach (Korey) crossed the line by entering the cage arguing and touching the ref (Ox). I am sure these professional martial artists will learn from this and conduct themselves differently in the future.
I will Have to agree with yous guys on one thing for sure. No two things. First that was one hell of a punch. And second, the cornerman did not ahve a ligit argument. His fighter was actually congratulating the winner just as he was arguing with the ref. You can see this if you watch the video carefully. It was very entertaining. The event was awsome!!
It is certainly obvious that most of you dumbasses that posted comments are fans of the ref. I was 20 ft away plus I watched this clip 40 freakin times. Are you guys BLIND or just STUPID?? The corner man starts to walk away. The ref CLEARLY and AGGRESSIVELY goes after him. Then, if you watch this clip, the ref grabs the cornerman's forearm. The cornerman jerks his arm away from the refs hold and thats when the ref pops him in the jaw. I was right there. I saw the ref as the agressor.
Does anyone have any other angles of this they wanna upload? You can't really see Korey poking and shoving at Oxendine. Or that nice uppercut.
I also heard Ox' might be issuing a challenge to go at it in the ring with Korey, understudy of Mark Hatmaker. But you wouldn't know it from how he ate that shot and dropped.
That coach definitely got what he deserved. He was yelling at the ref and shoving fingers at him, blaming the loss on him. He had no business being up there. That coach is Mark Hatmaker's understudy too, guess he's not as big and bad as he thought he was.
I was there too and that coach definitely got what he deserved, it was a clean hit and he had no business pushing the ref or even being in the ring. I'm just glad security was there to do a good job taking control of the situation. I tip my hat to the staff, for taking immediate control of the situation. Awesome show either way, next time I'm getting much better seats.
i guess u didnt look to well now did u cause Kory never put his hands on the ref!!!!! he simply was telling the ref "that was fucked up" Kory then walked away the ref came back at him and put his fingers all up on Kory chest Kory slapped his fingers off him and Kory got punched in the face. Kory is a damn good fighter.
I was there and it was an unbelievable knockout! The crowd went crazy. How often do you get to see the ref throw hands? It took a half hour for the place to settle down and resume the fights. I heard that these two were trying to finish it in the parking lot. I don't know for sure the reason it started, but from our seats it appeared that the coach was complaining about his fighter being hit in the back of the head. I didn't see a foul and no one should grab the ref but it was unfortunate.
Me and my wife went lst nite and it was Awsome! the was a huge brawl with 4 or 5 different fights. the guy that got dropped was a coach for Team CageKillers. He sould have kept his hands to himself huh? It was well worth my 20 bucks!
and the winnerrrrrrrrr issssssssssssssssssssssss, the REFEREEEEE!!!!!

I have to say the ref went after the cornerman who was walking away from the situation. The ref grabbed the guy. they cornerman pulled away and was blasted for his efforts. With that said the cornerman had no business in their arguing a call.

I'd love to know what he hoped to accomplish with that crap.

stoping the fight wasent the problem, i was there at the expo center in knoxville. the corner man was pissed cause the ref allowed a couple of shots to the back of the head.
johnybogger 2 years ago
I didn't really see any back of the head shots. There could have been a "couple" when the guy was on his knees trying to scramble but they were by no means intentional. There's not much the ref could have done in that case. He did just fine.
Funny reading all the comments regarding the aftermath though. Not sure what to believe, lol.

what even happened to the corner guy you cant really see it??
and that was a good stop too the guys hands just dropped and everything
qweasdzxcvfr123 2 years ago
The guy got his ass kicked in the fight. Great Stoppage. Second, if you are a respectable cornerman then you would never argue that fight. Third, more people need to be held accountable for their mouth and actions. Talk Shit and get hit. Casey has established himself as a respectable training, grappler, fighter, and school owner.

Casey Oxendine is one of the coolest, laid back guys you're likely meet. The guy undoubtedly deserved it.

my point exactly stupid. you said it yourself TP4GREEN. the ref grabbed his wrist. thats what happened. he went after the cornerman as he walked away then grabbed his wrist then sucker punched him. the last thing that guy expected was the fu%king ref to hit him.

i was at the fight , the cornerman pushed the ref after the ref grabbed his wrist and in a heated argument when someone is cursing me and pushes me im gonna knock them the fuck out so what do you think the ref thought was about to happen

Casey felt as if he was about to get hit, and he did the right thing and acted in self defense before he got hit.
cooldude0782 2 years ago
I know of this cornerman personally. Mr. Hays did get KO'd there, but about a month ago he met this ref in a bar and returned the favor.
The ref was completely out of line regardless if he felt threatened. If he felt threatened he should have backed away from the situation rather then escalate it by KOing the cornerman. Dumbass should be fined and suspended.

Kory was my corner man because i fought and won by KO that night as well as he is my coach and is nothing less than respectable, what the ref did was insulting and completely unjustified and totally blindsided kory, there was no reason for that whatsoever. kory was trying to tell the ref that dean was striking to the back of the head which of course could be argued either way but the ref was rude and insulting and decided in a moment that his words werent enough and sucker-punched my coach.
cagekillersteve 3 years ago
That was a textbook left, so much so it cant be seen, Probably the best punch in the fight... A "Sucker Punch" is from behind or the side.
Better yet as soon as someone steps in a room or a doorway...cornerman is digging his nails in the refs arm and trying to be all "big" and got popped, What a cupcake!
hankonaustinsprings 3 years ago 3
obviously you dont know what a "text book" punch is, no matter where you are standing if someone throws a punch and you dont know its comin... you are a sucker!!! i really hate people that dont fight try to commentary like they are fukin frank mir... tell you what... i fight again on november 8th at the same place, why dont you come and see what its like to play with cupcake? :)

why was the cornerman mad anyway? it looked like his fighter got dropped fair & square. And if you put your hands on someone they can defend themselves.
themeaningoflife38 3 years ago 19
Looked like a really well called fight. It does look like both people were in the wrong. The cornerman should show some composure/sportsmanship and not hassle a ref in the ring after a fight. And the ref shouldn't get involved in the mudslinging. I mean he's a ref, just make the calls and stay out of the way unless A)you have to break something up or 2)you are defending yourself. Just to add, if someone puts their hands on you and they do not expect a mouthful of fist then they're just dumb.
jaxcolon 3 years ago
@themeaningoflife38 Dude. He didn't do anything to him. There's a difference between defending yourself and knocking people out.

Watch the freakin clip man! and your 10 friends.
nj2knox 3 years ago
nj2knox is 100% right. i even talked to the corner man, kory. hes one of my real good friends and that is exactly what happend.
Jacquie319 3 years ago
I sat front row,& saw everything that happened. The corner rushed in,was complaining about a call from early in the bout. They had words,it looked like corner man was walkin away as ref was explaining, ref tapped the guy,the cornerman looked ticked off that ref wasn't seeing it his way,& at this point, cornerman pushed on refs chest & when he did,the ref knocked him out cold.Out of every person that was there(10 in our group on the front row) EVERYONE said the ref was 100% justified in his actions.
mizbeaver 3 years ago 3
Funny that everyone knows who kory is but no one knows who the ref is... Casey Oxendine. And the ref was trying to stop kory from touching, grabbing and poking. I just heard Casey say yesterday that you have the right to intelligently defend yourself. I wouldn't have done that, myself... but...
PhantasticPhotog 3 years ago
This is hard to watch.....the "corner man" is one of my good friends. I wasn't there I tried to get tickets from him but he said they were all sold out. He said what happend was he was pissed off at the ref about the fight and the ref started poking his finger in his chest and he hit the refs hands off him and the ref punched him in the mouth...givin enough strength it'll knock you out as u can see. He is very pissed off about this, he tried to go to the parking lot to find
Jacquie319 3 years ago
Yeah, the video makes it hard to see exactly how it started, but now that I look again it looks like the ref was actually the one that pursued the corner guy and escalated this situation...hard to tell though. So, from anyone that was actually there and DID see how this happened, lol, what happened?

We take full responsibility and apologize to both Casey and Kory for
allowing either man to be in the position each was in. We are now putting this behind us and looking forward to our next event in the near future. ACF Staff
ACFDOUG2 3 years ago
We also did not establish a protocol to follow after each match. It is our responsibility to ensure the referee's safety and wellbeing. It is his responsibility to call the matches as he sees them, not to have to defend those calls, or himself, after the match. We allowed Casey to get into a position where he felt threatened and he reacted. Our procedures are being changed to ensure this never happens
again.
ACFDOUG 3 years ago
Fines and suspensions are being levied for all parties involved in accordance with each one's involvement in this incident. However, I still have the utmost respect for both men because the blame for this situation ultimately falls on us at ACF. We didn't have a system in place for cornermen to voice their complaints about referee's decisions or
calls. Therefore Kory's only known option was to voice those complaints directly to the referee.
ACFDOUG 3 years ago
Continuing to antagonize and belittle either man only preserves negative emotions. Both men have given a lot to, and still have a lot to offer the fighting community. Both are intelligent, humble, and skilled individuals who are fighters only by trade. I have no doubt that when these two meet their difference will be resolved verbally, like two
grown men. Our board is taking appropriate actions.
ACFDOUG 3 years ago
Wow, alot of different views on this. Who pushed or pulled first cant really be seen and doesn't really matter now. What would have happened or what was about to happen could be debated from now on. What can't be debated is that both of these men deserve more respect than either is getting from
those with opposing views. I've known Kory for a long time, and have also developed a good friendship with Casey. Both men want to put this behind them and move on.
ACFDOUG 3 years ago
Thanks and God Bless. Like Mr. Randy Couture once told me...the best never rest.

And that the shows are gonna be the best and most professional in the game.
stuner247 3 years ago
Yeah, not sure who thinks they know Kory's life story? The info they posted was incorrect. But i'll you this...his skill level is world class in every aspect in any area of the NHB game. He has at least 10 years of hardcore NHB training from Mr. Hatmaker. Many will tell you he's a beast and he has done many great things to make the sport excel with his unlimited knowledge.

Timmkitts 3 years ago
I would first like to give Dean congrats on his win. This unfortunate accident took place that overshadowed his win. My name is Gene Click and I am Dean Hamilton's trainer. I would like to let Mendon know that we respected his ability as a fighter very much and trained for him greatly. The high kick of a flurry of straights was something we worked to a point of nausea. We would never violate any rule or disrespect an opponent via a rule violation. I don't know Cory personally.
fitfactorytraining 3 years ago
O.K.clowns & uneducated onlookers.I am the guy that jumped between them 2 nullify the situation, just a minute 2 L8.I had a pretty good view of things. There was a dispute as 2 whether or not there was a strike 2 the back of the head.Kory approached Casey with his argument & walked away.4 whatever reason Casey felt it was necessary 2 assure him he had things under control @ which point he was poking Kory in the chest.
Timmkitts 3 years ago
We all need to accept what happened and just let it be. Ox has said his peace. We need to however, as a group of spectators respect this sport and enjoy that it is finally legalized in Tennessee. And thank you for deleting my previous comments Vitaboy. Shows your true one-sided nature and speaks volumes about your character.
ecks77 3 years ago
Dude I deleted a coment because it was used words that kids should not read. I saw and remarked on how I saw both sides point that just got out of hand. Now you want to attack me and still use words like sh%&t. Come on now.
vitaboy64 3 years ago
looks guys, ox does not want or need some dumbasses speaking on his behalf stirring up unneeded shit. So talking trash about these two is just pointless and juvenile
ecks77 3 years ago
I was at the grappling tournament earlier that day and a couple of my teammates fought that night that was a little out of control they should limit who can get in the cage and have people at the door to prevent that from happening but that was still a crazy knockout and that kick didnt look illegal to me
adamnfool1 3 years ago
And the ref stormed right through the 2 fighters as they were shaking hands and talking to eachother. Once he got up to the cornerman (who was clearly walking away) the ref grabbed his bicep first then his forearm. What is really unfortunate is that the cornerman had no ligit point. I didn't see anything illegal done in the fight. Hats off to the winner! He was relentless! Thats how to finish an MMA fight! And props to the ref. that was one of the best punches I have ever seen in my life.
nj2knox 3 years ago
Thanks 4 the re-write. Cory was walking away. Walking talking and shaking his head. Still no reason to touch. It was loud and Casey touched him to get his attention to make his message be heard. Wrong move when anger is high in the air. It just got out of hand. We as fighters have a problem walking away when we feel we have right on our side and we get ticked off. If they can match weight, This would be a great future match.
vitaboy64 3 years ago
hey vitaboy64, my bad bro. i wont SHOUT or use bad language. All this is crystal clear on the clip man.
nj2knox 3 years ago
I just removed 2 comments from one person. I respect his views on the matters. However, I will not allow SHOUTING or foul language. Casey posted his side on his actions. He is human and felt he was in danger. This is not baseball. If it was, Cory would have been put out as he was being told he was. Cory walked away making comment. Casey followed to let him know he was banned for the nite. Casey could have let another official tell him. But he was still doing his job. Next time don't touch.

I do not expect everyone to agree with my actions. However, it is what it is.

I acted, in turn, by barring him from ringside. am disappointed that this nasty scene had to take place during such a trying time in the state's struggle for MMA santioning This is a sport that I truly cherish, and would never intentionally make any actions to hurt it's reputation.

Ha HA.
Shameful!
TnCampmom 3 years ago
I can't believe Casey Oxendine would risk the MMA Law that was just passed. I live in Johnson City and have heard good things about Casey and the Oxendine Camp, but it's hard to believe he'd risk it for everybody. I know the corner man Corey Hayes and he is a standup guy. What Casey produced was just unprofessional and pathetic. Whoever thought Casey should fight a bout with Corey Hayes... haha that'd be a bad idea. Corey has more class to even deal with Casey's bullshit.
stuner247 3 years ago
No Kory knows the day he does face casey he will be proven a fake.
Dichotomy3 3 years ago
If half of you actually look at the Ref when the corner man walks back to the cage door, Casey Oxendine grabs the corner man's wrist pulling him into him. This caused the corner man to push back with his right hand to push Casey away. Casey held onto the corner man's wrist while twisting it and sucker punched him once on the jaw and miss with a left hook. Watch the corner man, Corey Hayes, legs(specifically feet) when Casey pulls him in. Obviously the ref is unprofessional and hot-headed.
ecks77 3 years ago
Alright dude you are definitly blind. Casey only through 1 punch
capoeiraginga 3 years ago
You don't seem to notice that Casey's right hand is between him and Corey before the grab. Corey tries to parry it away twice before Casey grabs it. Why would Corey need to do that?
bwner756 3 years ago
My guess would be that Corey was trying to create space so he could hit casey. He had already shoved him 2 times at that point. It was a reasonable leap of logic that he would escalate it. Casey just beat him to both the proverbial and literal punch.

The corner man was the one who started getting on the ref physically. No player or manager should ever touch an official, the official should not have done anything either, except to warn corner to back off or be escorted off. Both the ref and that corner man should be banned from any other events for a set amount of time or permanent.
after thought : Fighter that "won" did an illegal move and there was no call about it...bad ref, bad.
xracer626 3 years ago

that ref should be suspended from any further competition..... you can NOT conduct yourself violently as an official/representative of the sport.
seehound619 3 years ago 2
I agree that he should not have escalated the situation in the speed and manner that he did. However, I was there and it appeared to be a defensive reflex and he appeared genuinely upset that the entire event took place. I think he was doing a good job up to that point. The coach (Korey) crossed the line by entering the cage arguing and touching the ref (Ox). I am sure these professional martial artists will learn from this and conduct themselves differently in the future.
damalldagood1srtaken 3 years ago

I need to ammend the last part of that. Ox' isn't doing anything like that, it was just something someone was mouthing off about at the fight.

Apparently not if he got KO'ed like that.

There was some action in the parking lot, but it wasn't between these two. Casey (the ref) had left the building before the other guy was even awake.

Me and my wife went lst nite and it was Awsome! the was a huge brawl with 4 or 5 different fights. the guy that got dropped was a coach for Team CageKillers. He sould have kept his hands to himself huh? It was well worth my 20 bucks!
