I'm an atheist but I must accept that sacred music and art is lovelly, this piece is one of my favourites and sometimes takes some tears from my heart.
@PlottingMax when you listen to such music don't you believe in god? you cant write something genial becoz of a chemical reaction in your brain, no...
luv it! im in my high school orchestra & i personally think that this song & Brook Green Suite by Gustav Holst (all 3 movements: Prelude, Air, & Dance) r going to be the best songs we'll play in our winter concert! Wish us luck!
ps-Mr. VanDyke & Mrs. Mickey r 2 awesome orchestra conductors!
@aKnightInTunisia Simba:Dad, we gotta get up, we gotta go home, dad?*pulls on Mufasa's ear* HELP!*echos* SOMEBODY!?*echos* ANYBODY!? *echos*HELP!*starts to cry*
i'm singing this at my friends wedding on the 16th of september, with another friend. i cannot wait. we have been practising twice a week for 3 weeks, so far it sounds great
@SuperBloemeke I feel like you: the last piece of Mozart I hear is the most beautiful I can imagine... until I hear the next one. Et incarnatus est, Laudate Dominum, Soave il vento, Christe solo (K427), are just a few examples that pierce to bottoms of hearts: a man who would have done nothing in his entire life but writing ONE of these tiny pieces of music, would become overnight an immense composer.
Mozart's Ave verum it's beyond any religion, any human being can hear it and elevate to the moon, it's one of the greatest music ever written by mankind
Just so you guys know, the two leading biographers of Mozart put it beyond question that he was a non-Christian. Wilder gives ample evidence and tells us that on his death bed he refused to ask for a priest and when his wife nevertheless sent for one, the priest was refused, and he was buried without a service in the common grave of the poor. Mozart was a rational Atheist.
@SnowboardAssassin, what modern politically correct "experts" say, doesn't change what I hear or believe, even less what Mozart believed, wrote or did.
@KhazFendi Interesting that you should mention The Lion King, the score you mentioned definitely was inspired by this but so was another score on that soundtrack. The other plays when Simba returns to the pridelands to find that the uncontrolled immigration, predation, and indulgence on everyone's behalf as well as severe drought and wildfire have destroyed the entire land. When he sees that the place has become desolate, barren, and deserted. All that remains are the wicked and the helpless....
It is certain. No greater composer than Mozart ever lived, nor will ever live. God truly gave him the gift of music in all its entirety, something which I think he will never do again.
singing this in my chorus class. Great song. Everybody really dosent like it but.......im unique. god bless mozart. a talented person and he is an inspiration for tons of people.
When I lived in Norway, my choir leader was a big admirer of Mozart, and she made us sing this. If I had a bad day, if I were really down, all my worries and all my frustration would be gone if we sang it. It gave me a way of turning my pain into song in a way I will never experience again. I never knew what the lyrics meant until today when I heard it again and looked it up. This is pure warmth for a soul turned to ice.
@Chicky160487 I got to sing this song for choir once too, and I know exactly what you mean. Your throat almost closes up from pure joy and you can barely even get the notes out.
@fenderbassboy Exactly! I am not a big listener of classical music, but in my opinion it has a much more powerful way of expressing emotion. Now and again I come across a piece of classical music that - like this one - reaches deep. Way deeper than popular music.
A beautiful rendition. Thank you for posting this

I have chosen this to be the recessional music at my own funeral - when it happens. Pity I won't be able to hear it myself...

@SnowboardAssassin Even if he wasn't a Christian, and his motives were somewhat self-serving, the piece is inspired.

@Merlin1940 It doesn't 'change' what Mozart believed, it reveals it. As far as what you believe; nobody gives a fuck.
