I think Buddhism is more than just protective rituals against interfering ghosts. Buddhism has so much to offer than just protection from spirits. However, I understand that for many people after receiving benefits from this protection enables them to gain stronger faith in it and hence will go deeper into practice.
Well, for many of us, changing and transforming is very hard as our habits are tough. Therefore we have to fake it in order to make it. We fake it until it eventually becomes real. Then we don't give up when we slip, we make up and continue.
Ghosts are attracted to those who have the karma to see such beings. Hence, we should do more Dharma so we benefit these beings that appear to us and so they get some benefit too. Even during tsog offering, we offer to them.
The Higher Tantric practice of Chod, uses meditation to offer our visualized body cut up and chopped up and offered to all beings including the spirits. This is cut away at our self-cherishing mind and the strongest symbol of it is our body.
Doing White Umbrella practice can protect us from Spirit harm or interferences. You know like those that come in the night and press us down. White Umbrella's mantra is Om Sita Ta Pa Trey Hum Phet. Recited daily and as the blessings gather momentum, the problems will slowly decrease and will stop completely. If one has a Lama, visualizing him and White Umbrella as one and dissolving into our body.
During the Tantric tsog offering, the Tantrikas offer their blessed leftovers for spirits in order to appease their loneliness and hunger and bless them with their Samaya.
That is neat! Using wrath to benefit others but I am sure it takes a very spiritually evolved person to do that otherwise we will make the person go away.
Being born in the spirit realm is due to extreme miserliness and attachment. Those taken rebirth in that realm suffer a lot, we should have compassion by doing practice and dedicate to them instead of fearing or chasing them out.
You know I also heard the chanting of Heart Sutra also appeases most spirits. I think in the end of the day we must realize that they are in a suffering state of existence, so we must be compassionate and think kindly of them like what Rinpoche explains.
Thank you so much frozbyte, you are so knowledgeable very nice of you to share some comments here in youtube to help me out! I am just so dumb with these. Thanks again!
The main key word i learn from this teaching is -- Compassion. We love everyone around us, so do the ghost and spirits, and i believe if we show our love and care, they wont really harm us....In fact we can do prayers and dedicate the merits to them, so they wont suffered anymore being a ghost or spirits and have good rebirth.....
A chakra is sanskrit literally meaning 'wheel'. In Tibetan it is called korlo. However, physically it is square piece of paper folded many times and tied with multicolored strings and act as a protection amulet. It has mantras and diagrams on it invoking the power of a particular Buddha for protection. Thus, the Buddha's energy becomes like a wheel of protection around the wearer.
This video goes to demonstrate how compassion can help to ward off such disturbances. There is not much need for all those excorsisms as sometimes all that is needed is just some sincerity and kindness from our site. But of course, when things get out of control, invest in a chakra or two :P
if we have really understood the Dharma, then there is no fear of spirits. In fact, we will invite them because we really want to help them. Only high lamas who are truly compassionate can do that but we can always aspire to reach that stage and it will be hard but we will be able to one day neonlam(dot)com
Ghosts and spirits need love and care too, just like everyone else, so the best thing to do if you see them is to offer an incense or something on their behalf to the Buddhas. This will help lessen their suffering and they will appreciate your kindness and stop harming or disturbing you. This is the best way to get rid of spirits but of course if that fails, there are always chakras. neonlama(dot)com has more teachings.
you can also but chakras, roos and blessed malas at kechara(dot)com. They can also help to ease the suffering of both the spirit and yourself by the positive energies stored in them.
H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche is full of win. He owns the internet!! In a very postive way. Imagine all the people that will benefit if he REALLY does own the internet and his videos get featured in yahoo...
What I really like about this video is the the part when Rinpoche mentioned to meditate on compassion towards the spirits, on how they are suffering from loneliness, hunger and others for 100 of yrs and offer incense to the Buddha for them to collect merits. Afterall, it does make sense if you contemplate on how they became spirits, it's not only about exorcism, but by showing compassion towards them makes it more "human"
OK, now I am a little bit scared, how can I protect myself so that the spirits do not come in, I am scared to do my chakra meditation now, I am still doing it, but I am scared for real, please help because I have nobody else to turn to. Everything I think I know, I have learned through Youtube and some books and I have no other source, so please help
I don't know if this is any help to you but I think that Tsem Rinpoche's video on this same site called "Karma and its relationship to vows -part 1" might give you some more information on your question.I agree that finding a Lama and attending dharma talks in person is the best solution but these teachings presenting here are still invaluable. We are blessed to be hearing them.
Thank you, I am still a little bit scared, but I went through it, it was very difficult getting up at 4 am, still dark outside and everything so I had 3 little lights turned on, now I have only 1 little light on, I think you can call that a progress! :)
Yes and it's a very interesting story, but now I just want to say thank you all for making the effort listening to these great teachings, please spread the word, Namaste
have compassion and think about their predicament for a moment. you have fear because you feel that you are more important than them. Think about how they suffer and dedicate merits to them. Compassion is your first line of defense against these beings. Would you be afraid of a friend who is affected by manic bipolar depression who is unstable and unpredictable all the time, or would you try to help him or her? Apply that to spirits.
thank you for your comment, I've moved a long way since my post so I don't have that problem anymore, a beginner's mistake :D, I hope that your answer will help someone if they have a similar problem as I had, thank you once again
if you have further problems or any snags in your practice, you can always head to tsemtulku(dot)com/Forum to dicuss with the loving and supportive community there
You need to attend teachings at a local dharma centre near you, because that teacher can guage on your behalf what you need to learn and what you dont need to worry about.
Yes, that's correct. Any one-way communication is a bit dry and as a student it is more beneficial to receive feedback on which areas you should engage in, to increase and to abandon.
well, lets not worry about people who pretend to be Buddhist and try too hard to being one. We should have compassion for them as well and not be too hard on them.
For your store's business, you should take Tara as your yidam, do her praise daily "A Song of Longing for Tara the Infallible" by Losang Tanpa Gyaltsan. Do the praises to 21 Tara 100,000 times, and also do Tara's mantra minimum 100,000 times immediately, and continue on after that. Take Tara as you main Yidam.
Rely wholeheartedly on Kalarupa, visualize that any harmful spirits/disturbances in the whole area being absorbed into the flames of Kalarupa, and then the flames come out and touch the people, burning away their jealousy/anger/unhappiness, thus leading them to happiness and enlightenment.
You should solicit the great dharma protector Kalarupa, recite Kalarupa's prayer once daily, offer incense to Kalarupa, recite Kalarupa's mantra 100,000 times to ward off black magic/demons/negative forces/supernatural power.

Dear Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, I have a problem... You see, my family owns a little business in town, but in the store we always get the creeps like there's someone invisible there, we don't sell much, our customers have gone away and all that kind of stuff... Besides the man from the store next door often does black magic stuff at us out of mere envy. My question is: what do I do? I've already tried many things... :( Wish you could help me...

the best way to face spirits is to have compassion for them instead of shooing them away. This is more logical than exorcing them.

You should seek a proper lama. Relying on such things found in books and the internet is really dangerous and usually useless.
