  • When I was selling my house,ASHI inspector only one attic access out of three I had.

And his comments about the home were"Gorgeous! No problems at all!"

Guys,hi did't find leaking roof..... My roof was leaking through all levels to the garage....

  • ASHI does not have a certified instructor to teach their Infrared courses and cannot certify anyone to use the IR camera. Their IR courses do not meet industry standards and are not recognized by any IR camera manufacture. BEWARE OF ASHI INSPECTORS.

  • I don't understand why people keep saying that you shouldn't use the inspector that a realtor refers. Do you not trust your realtor? Find a good trustworthy realtor and ask them why they refer a certain home inspector. The worst thing you can do is price shop for a home inspector. You get what you pay for. Find a home inspector with some kind of satisfaction guarantee and attend the inspection.

  • As a Liceensed home inspector HI 2239 A great home inspector will have a background in Home construction ,but may or may not belong to a National Org.When I checked into a Nat. org I found them very expensive and most dont offer training in all areas so to get training the cost goes up . ask about how long they have been inspecting and the background also the extra traing they get !!! some only get the required and some get all they can.George HI 2239 in Kentucky

  • Don't get a referral from your real estate agent, and don't go to ASHI. ASHI does not enforce their code of ethics, and the qualifications for certification is all hype. I was told about an ASHI inspector that said that a water spot would be fine, that it was old. When it grew in size and also grew mold, it ended up in court. The ASHI inspector lied in his court affidavit.

  • beware though...

Sometimes the Inspector that the REALTOR recommends is going to do a soft quick inspection- just because of their human relationship with the Realtor.

It is much more wise to follow advice of a referral from some one who is not going to benefit from the sale of the home.

  • She makes some good points, however, she states that the home inspection will take about 2 hours. As a licensed home inspector since 90 in Texas, I'll just say that if the inspection is less than 3 hours for a small home, you got ripped off. Second, ASHI is a good organization but don't rely on the fact that just because someone belongs to an organization that they are good or even qualified. Quiz your inspection on how they inspect the house, do they go deep into the HVAC system?, etc.
