this is awesome, I was just browsing after listening to Led zeppelin, It is amazing that her influence on blues,R&B and Rock have extended way past her life, thanks for posting this!
I can't believe I never heard of this woman.... on second thought, I CAN. Anyway, I find her playing exciting because she plays with an edge, hard, snaps her stroke. I love the 'Wooo Hooo!'fantastic. thank you.
arlifrancis: not only for the women blues, she was much better than many male colleagues. She won a "guitarcontest" with Big Bill Broonzy in the 30ties.
This "World Over" is a remarkable track, it is Minnie's 2nd studio session on electric guitar (National). The 1st was: 21/05/'41, this session: 12/12/'41. Minnie gtr/vcl,Little Son Joe gtr, Elfred Elkins bass. Both in Chicago IL.
Yes she was. Minnie married Ernest Lawlars in 1939 till his death Nov./14 - 1961. Lawlars was born May 18/1900 in Hughes AR. Lawlars got generally known as: "Little Son Joe" & "Son Joe". He was Minnie's 3rd husband.
1st was Casey Bill Weldon who teached Minnie his 'slide-techniques'. 2nd was "Kansas" Joe McCoy with whom she started her recording carreer in 1929, divorced him in 1935.
Thanks for the comments. I have many more 78's on video. I plan to start posting them on a regular basis. They cover all types of music. Some go back a hundred years.
It's great to hear someone resurrecting some of the old time greats. This is brilliant, thanks for doing this, I haven't heard this in years. You are quite correct, the sound is excellent! 5*
The clarity and strength of her voice just kills me! What a singer. Thanks for making this available to us.
