a pretty good movie that doesn,t look low budget. some great girls, lots of action, great locations in beautiful color.-I think Edward Judd was the narrator, who also was King Harald,s shipmaster.---Oscar Homolka was the funniest old viking of all time.
Thanks for posting the prologue for the movie, created by Maurice Binder. I always loved to hear about the " fabulous chain of Nimrodang, of the !0,000 golden links!"
Great movie lots of fun with a great Dusan Radic score and filmography by Jack Cardiff.
mike18xx- totally agree with ya there- the ginormous solid gold bell falling in the ocean and floating like styrofoam was amazing. Totally not what I was expecting. This movie went a little too far beyond my capacity for "suspension of disbelief".
Little known facts about golden bells, which you will learn from watching this movie: Despite your assumption that they would weight fifteen tons and ring like a chunk of lead hit with a fireplace poker -- they're actually quite melodious, and will float on water like spray-painted styrofoam!

I can think of a number of Bankers and Corporate CEO's who should ride the Mare of Steel......
That's the only level of justice they deserve.

1:25 -- In the background (arches & columns) is the praying room of the mosque / cathedral of Cordoba, Spain.

I just watched this movie... first time in about twenty years.
Guess what???
It IS as great as you remember it.
Wonder why Lucas never mentions how much this movie affected his Star Wars? Perhaps he's not aware of the subconscious factor...
you know,
same as George Harrison with the "He's So Fine" thing.
Jus' Kiddin (kinda).
But it is a fantastic film.

Oh mighty Long Ships, how hast thou influenced Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Let me count the ways: chanting monks (check), animated cut-scenes (check), portentous voice-over (check), "run away!" (at 2:42 - check)...
This is one seriously batshit crazy flick.
