  • K want to play banjo in the pub with the other musicians, so your way of playing would-be really cool. I really want to learn how to play the dueling banjo instrumental. Many thanks Mike

  • Mike, can you explain how you form the G chord and exactly what frets you move up on the banjo for the dueling banjo piece and you mentioned about a Nail on the fret board, did I hear right ?

  • Absolutely fantastic Mike pure perfection, thanks for sharing, my I just bought banjo and would love to play like you. Thanks for sharing. Can you tell how to forward and back roll. Greetings from Noel in Ireland

  • @MyOpinionBrother thanks noel. I know you checked out my video beginning banjo. my way of playing is more of the scruggs style. and slang type of playing. not officially proper, but it works for me, especially when playing with bands who have drummers. good luck, Mike

  • stop complaining, i got it just fine! It's for ADVANCED players

  • There was no need for "Lesson" in the video name

  • @GroupOneElite . I picked up parts of this song by just watching someone else. so even just watching someone right or wrong is a lesson. thanks mike

  • Takes the piss really, every 'lesson' is the same on youtube :L

  • Go to my " beginning banjo lessons (part 1) and then to my how to play banjo solos.(part 2) and it will lead you into my style of playing. this dueling banjos lesson was my first video I didn't even think people would pay attention I guess it is for the more advanced player. thanks anyway. mike

  • Love it.. nice twist on the normal tune.. really nice.

  • @TheMrBanjocat while i deeply appreciate you explaining that it's just very repetitive, can you possibly explain more the middle part? or just slow it down a little bit? many thanks. i've just started banjo and love this song!

  • Cracking mate! keep it up!

  • Your playing deserves a better banjo.

  • I use a cheap banjo becuse it is light and easy to take on airplanes. I always have another one ready to go in case I smash it or lose it. I play lead guitar and fiddle so I only play about 10 songs a night and having a pickup cuts through the mix especially when using a drummer. With a pure bluegrass band I would use a more professional banjo (without a pickup) because the sound man mic"s it. It is what works for me , Thanks Mike

  • Mike,

thanks for the video. really helped me alot

    Slappy G

  • 2:45 I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT!!!!

  • @mrwelchey hahaha u spelt sake rong

  • its good but for fuck sack why put lesson when all the fuck it is,, is you playing

  • as a player, very good, however it was a crappy lesson :\

  • one really good playing two problems tho please dont mess with an original banjo they do make banjos for amps and please try teaching a little more than just the opening chords its helpful but not enough

  • not really a lesson, you told us two notes then you just started playing at full speed.

  • @smorris91 the idea was for viewers is to get the idea. after 10 songs the banjo begins to repeat itself. I play guitar, banjo and fiddle so at my performances I might only play 10 banjo songs a night, same ones for 30 years with an odd one once and a while. It is really slang way to play but it works. Mike

  • mike iv got about 6 diffrent dueling banjos and havent got that one where could i get it from

  • What kind of guitar pickup did you put in the banjo? Ive been looking at a few different options to amplify my banjo and im not too sure which route to take.

  • @kgentry221 . I used a demarzio humbucker (high output) I burned the holes through the drum with a solder Iron. and jamed it up against the drum with a little pressure so it is close to the strings. then adjust each pole piece. If you are playing with a drummer you can walk around the stage without volume loss. not absolute perfect, but effective for a full band gig, also play out of a fender twin with guitar in other channel. straight in no effects .

  • Hello great job, where can i find those tabs for the banjo ? :)

  • @martinwenberg -- I don,t really have tabs just made it up, but am going to do more lessons on how to play, expecially how to play with bands cause I also play lead guitar and fiddle, out of the same amplifer. that way it is easy for sound man too, Want to show everybody what has worked for me. (Remember) people see more than they hear.. Good luck - Mike

  • I really like this version and your banjo. Never thought about the pick ups in the banjo...amazing! You play very well and I wish you had the tabs for this! I would give you 5 Stars but all I can do now is give you Thumbs up!

  • @ShickenChit74 thanks the electric guitar pickup works well expecially if you are playing with a full band. I will do more lessons in the future and explain more Mike

  • Goodjob!Thanks for sharing this.
