@jetli80 Most of us knew about this several years ago after our unusually long minimum..... It's supposed to get worse as the solar max peaks out in 2013. From what I have read about it, there is a potential for storms that may be as bad as the solar storm of 1859. Back then telegraph cables/systems caught fire sporadically across the N. America because of the storm. Currently our grid is not protected against solar storms according to news reports.
