I play a Strat, I barely use this on the saturated mode. Use it with level around 9 o clock, gain at 2 and it's a great boost on top of my TS9. This is such an underrated pedal. One of those pedals that will fly under the radar because it's made by Digitech. This can do whatever you want. No better value
I ordered one last night... was using the ocd for a while but that will now be my solo boost and this will be my main source of overdrive. The crunch/saturated knob is really what sold me on this. Also the price was reasonable unlike some other brands that charge obnoxious prices for their pedals.
I don't know why I dn't get the same gain levels out of my amp. I'm plugging into a Mesa Boogie Blue Angel Head into a Randall 4x12 cab using a strat with cool rails in the bridge. My volume is set at 1(this amp is damn loud)
I've had boss os-2, EH big muffs (russian, nyc, germaniuum 4) boss sd-1 (modded by keeley) EH double muff... and the sc-2 is the best by far. Superior sound quality, low gain, hi gain it does it pretty pretty well. It reacts pretty well to your guitars volume knob... couldn't be happier with this.
@freiture boss ds-1 came out in 78. notice the mxr is called the Custom Badass 78 distortion. coincidence? no they are very similair, but the mxr is true bypass
@Gyan111 somebody says this in almost every PGS demo. he's using a low watt tube amp which, when cranked starts to dirty up a bit. apperently it's a normal thing.
@joewalshman96 Basically, the SC-2 Valve distortion is supposed to be your main distortion sound, and the CM-2 Tube overdrive is a boost for an already overdriven amp, if that's what you're asking.
I have this pedal and would recommend it. Really versatile with a nice tone to it. I found the saturated side not as good as the crunch. Pedal is really solid too.
should i choose this or a mxr fullbore probably differant idk what to get?this ones more all around while the other seems 1 dimesnional i a have shecter damien elite
Just bought one today and after experimenting with some settings it made my crappy old Orange crush 30r sound like a 50watt Marshall. EXTREMELY versatile pedal, it covers anything from blues to grunge (I myself am a big AiC fan) and used as a booster, preferably on some on better amp (I tried it on 100 w H&K, it sounds killer, seriously) you can get some pretty SWEET thrash and speed metal sound, both for riffing and leads. Far better pedal than anything in the same price range, trust me.
Uhmm....this pedal sounds more amp like than 75% of the boutique stuff listed at PGS. I honestly think this SC2 CRUSHES the Lovetone Provalve and anything fr Pigtronix. BUT before you rip me, it's my opinion only. AND for everyone's sake...tone is subjective. Like everything else in life, so if you like it, like it. IF you dont like it, move on.
my SC2 is on order and I'll leave a clip when I have had a go at it.
I have several of these pedals and highly recommend them. As far as tone, durability, and the fact that they don't cut your signal like most pedals...they are the best hands down!
@TheDonBLYND Bravo sir. Heavy heavy distortion in some rare cases fits, but take Iommi for example. The godfather of metal.. he didn't use insane distortion and tell me he didn't create some of the most metal riffs ever.
@TheDonBLYND depends. Just because something has a lot of gain doesent mean it has the kind of hyper-compressed feel that metalcore guys tend to like. Or that kind of supersaturated gain for swampy post-metal type stuff...
Yes, I know that at least the SC-2 and the CM-2 are analog. I'm not entirely sure about their other pedals though, but they all sound fantastic so I don't think it matters TOO much.
Andy uses the 65 Amps Soho Model for most of his pedal demos, but he is using a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue for this particular segment. This is a nice pedal, good crunch, goes from mild to wild. With the Fender, He's pulling some sweet AC/DC type tones. As always, Andy, good demo.
hey Andy, i really appreciate the demos and videos. i just want to know what amp your using with the pedal? and if you have it running in-front of the amp or in an effects loop? thanx!
It's just my $0.02, but Digitech pedals are EXTREMELY underrated. My WH-1 and Digiverb pedals have been heavily used and abused, but they still function just like they did when they were new.
Do you think this pedal would sound good through a Fender Frontman 65r? The clean channel only has High/Low eq, and I am having trouble finding a pedal that doesn't come out sounding too hissy or muddy. Each of the pedals I have tried so far also have Hi/Lo only, would a pedal with adjustable mids be recommended, such as the Hardwire TL-2?
@ThePowrWithn yo man i had a fender frontman 65r and know like everything about them tone wise ahaha. the clean channel is pretty rubish for pedals ive found. i have a kanji eternity and it sounded pretty lame on clean channel, also my fuzz face sounded buzzy and lame. try it on the distortion channel with the gain on like 2 just for volume. i just began using the tone of the distortion channel with my wah and fuzz and it sounded pretty cool....
@RankDoorMatt what does that have to do with anything... true bypass means that the signal doesnt travel trough the circuits of the pedal when its turned off, but instead bypasses the curcit completely, in order to keep the signal intact.
i've been looking for a pedal that can give me a tone similar to the tone from Pink Floyd's album The Division Bell, just the overdrive/fuzz sound, any advice? i've tried a lot of Bigmuff models out but none of the modern ones cut it.
@omen351 Very constructive comment! I have just got one of these and in my humble opinion it's one of the best dist pedals I've had. That means it stands comparison with Analogman, Wampler, Lovepedal, Hartman, I could go on. I'm not saying it's better or as good as anything else out there, just that you shouldn't dismiss things out of hand because of the name.
@omen351 Have you ever used a Digitech Whammy pedal? Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Tom Morello, and Jack White all use it so Digitech can't be that bad. I will agree that their cheaper line isn't that great and most of their multi-effects processors have bad footswitches but when you get to the Hardwire products and the more advance stuff they get better
@TheSchoolsux345 - Solid state and digital are not the same thing. Solid state is an analog technology, just like vacuum tubes are also a different type of analog technology . No computers or "1's and 0's" are involved in either. Just use whatever sounds good to you. There is no right or wrong, just make music.
@ProGuitarShopDemos - EXACTLY! Everything is personal preference. What do YOU want to hear? In the band I play in, we have 3 guitars and bass and we ALL have different tastes when it comes to what we want to hear and the sounds we like. It's all subjective. I've bought really cheap gear in the past and be happier then spending hundreds more for something similar.
Besides that, if you know how to use your equipment, you'll get better results.
@TheSchoolsux345 Neither. Analog and tube aren't always the same. Tube is a kind of analog, but generally what you'll find is that a distortion pedal uses diodes to create clipping. Digital means that it uses a computer chip instead of normal electronic parts.
@TheSchoolsux345 you mean is it analog or digital? all Digitech pedals are digital but the Hardwire ones all have true bypass or you can switch them to not be true bypass from a switch in the battery comportment.
@SonicGamer1991 have a crate gt65 that sounds great with any pedal.. granit i do have acelestion vintage 30 in it, and run a compressor and tube preamp through the effects loop.. Anyways, a pedal will only sound as good as your amp and guitar.. I suggest get a better amp, and then get a good pedal
@ProGuitarShopDemos well a lot of people may not have £3000 worth of equipment so maybe you should demo the pedal through an amp that more people are likely to have, im not saying you should play through a 15wt fender starter amp but common most 15 year olds like me dont have a really expensive tube amp which is why we go for pedals, but now we dont knw if the pedal will sound good because your demoing it through a fucking tube amp
DRRi isn't worth that much, it's $999US on the PGS website, which by tube amp standards is midpack, and it's clean enough to let the character of the pedal give the best representation of itself, that, and most players who aren't whiny and 15 do have nice tube amplifiers.
if you have a problem with the way PGS operates you are complaining in the wrong place, they do fantastic work.
@gunsnrosesful Thing is dude that would look bad on the pedal if they demoed it through say a Marshal MG100 or what have you. Fact of the matter is that eventualy if you stick with it you'll end up with a good tube amp. When I was 15 I had a shit amp too but most guitarists use tube amps and these demos are done to sell units and that wont happen if the demos sound bad.
Agreed. As malcatron said, it's called "PROguitarshop" - not "fifteen-year-old-beginnerguitarshop". If you want to demo this pedal out of your amp, arrange a demo at the local store or something.
I think this demo was awesome - plus he played Muse! I'm looking for a nice pedal to give a little more boost to the old Peavey tuber I was given the other day (I'm sixteen, by the way - you've just got to be in the right place at the right time), so I say these guys did a damn fine job on the demo.
@gunsnrosesful The clues in the name - "PRO"guitarshop - it's not really aimed at 15 year old's with no cash but sad old tone chasers like me with more money than sense. If you're playing through a shitty solid state amp chances are you haven't got a lot of dollar to blow on pedals, so why aim the demo at you when there are thousands of potential customers who can afford a tube amp and are therefore more likely to spend some cash?
I played one of these pedals into a crappy solid state at guitar center...wow. This demo absolutely nailed the tone. This pedal is ridiculously versatile and dynamic...I used to love my tubescreamer, but this thing killed it. And it's so cheap for a dirtbox!
Will a pretty heavy distortion pedal kill the original tonality of a JCM 800 when running in either low or high input, or will the tube overtones always be there since its running thru the valves? I want a pedal thats hard enough to be used as the main overdrive in the low input.
Hey, what do you think is a good amp to play this through, cause I have a line six spider 15w and hate that I can't save netrual channel, plus the amp distortion sucks, I'm also on a 300 dollar budget, help me out XD

I have a crate GTD15 and I was wonderin if this pedal would sound good through it. Please help!
P.s Im thinking about buying it...
SonicGamer1991 1 year ago
@SonicGamer1991 have a crate gt65 that sounds great with any pedal.. granit i do have acelestion vintage 30 in it, and run a compressor and tube preamp through the effects loop.. Anyways, a pedal will only sound as good as your amp and guitar.. I suggest get a better amp, and then get a good pedal

@ProGuitarShopDemos well a lot of people may not have £3000 worth of equipment so maybe you should demo the pedal through an amp that more people are likely to have, im not saying you should play through a 15wt fender starter amp but common most 15 year olds like me dont have a really expensive tube amp which is why we go for pedals, but now we dont knw if the pedal will sound good because your demoing it through a fucking tube amp
gunsnrosesful 1 year ago
@gunsnrosesful
DRRi isn't worth that much, it's $999US on the PGS website, which by tube amp standards is midpack, and it's clean enough to let the character of the pedal give the best representation of itself, that, and most players who aren't whiny and 15 do have nice tube amplifiers.
if you have a problem with the way PGS operates you are complaining in the wrong place, they do fantastic work.
carswell98 1 year ago

If you're playing through a shitty solid state amp chances are you haven't got a lot of dollar to blow on pedals, so why aim the demo at you when there are thousands of potential customers who can afford a tube amp and are therefore more likely to spend some cash?
malcatron 1 year ago
I played one of these pedals into a crappy solid state at guitar center...wow. This demo absolutely nailed the tone. This pedal is ridiculously versatile and dynamic...I used to love my tubescreamer, but this thing killed it. And it's so cheap for a dirtbox!

Maiden92666 1 year ago
@Maiden92666 Higher Ground by RHCP. It's a cover of a Stevie Wonder song of the same name.

@ProGuitarShopDemos What about a dude like me with a semi-solid state amp with two tubes in it (Fender Roc Pro 1000)?

Would this model or the tube overdrive version be better at getting more of the crispy early Van Halen sound?
theShowStopper321 1 year ago
Will a pretty heavy distortion pedal kill the original tonality of a JCM 800 when running in either low or high input, or will the tube overtones always be there since its running thru the valves? I want a pedal thats hard enough to be used as the main overdrive in the low input.

could this do a good 30 seconds to mars sound?
matthew909 1 year ago
I'll give Digitech credit, for Digital it actually does sound like authentic tube drive.

the only bug i'm having with the sc-2 is the nasty audible pop at high volumes when you turn the thing on...anyone else notice this?

Is there such a thing as a distortion pedal or whatever that can tighten up vintage amps gain/distortion?
