what's wrong with using falsetto? many singers use it and it goes well with the emotion that he is trying to express in this particular aria. why is it that you are concerned so much with his vocal technique instead of just listening and enjoying the music?
because I AM a singer and technique IS important to me as is the art of singing.
Crooning falsetto notes instead of singng them softly on the breath is fake and cheating the audience. Even Domingo says that himself in masterclasses so it is disappointing to hear him do it. I am glad you enjoy anyway but it is not proper singing. The rest is fabulous
I never noticed it until you pointed it out. It just sounded beautiful, perhaps at that point in the middle of the opera singing on the voice at PPP might have cracked the voice, in which case he was wise to use 'falsetto'. He is afterall Domingo, so he probably knows his voice better than most. You know your own voice, if you let me know when you're doing Don Carlo next then I'll come and watch you do that note better than Domingo...;)
It's not falsetto.Check the 1972 live recording of Lucia with him and Maccianti he made crescendo on a pp if his soft singing was falsetto he wouldn't be able to make a crescendo.
You cant make a crescendo on falsetto? Really? Are you SURE?? Of course you can. Countertenors are experts at dynamics, like crescendo and diminuendo, and they sing ONLY in falsetto.
Are you a tenor or alto? Perhaps you're both... Hang on, that means that you use falsetto when you sing....like Domingo. Circles and roundabouts my friend. Again, when you make your debut at Covent Garden, let me know :)
Mate, you must be a nightmare to work with, opinions opinions opinions. I hope I never meet you on the circuit, whoever you are. Enjoy your career while it lasts.

says who?? using falsetto has been common practice for tenors, maybe of all time, and always will be, is my guess, so what? and btw... the line between falsetto and voix mixte is very very thin. it's not all black and white, ya know.
and apart from this, the way carreras and domingo applied their 'falsetto' is a technique by itself, which they master very well, so the only problem here, i would guess, is 'do you like it or not?' just a matter of taste, i'd say!
WONDERFUL!!! Bravo Domingo!!!

He tilts his head back here, where later he decided to sing straight on without the tilt back. Interesting.

When countertenors go from piano to forte their voice maintains the falsetto quality Domingo's forte had a full chesty timbre.
