I'm 15. and I was just diagnosed with narcolepsy. I always limp when get sad, i have sleep paralaysis when i wake up, I slept 12 hours a day, and always felt extremely sick. When they did my sleep and nap study ( I had 6) I always fell asleep withing 8 minutes and hit REM in 20 minutes. Narcolepsy Is terrible, I hate it. Its painful, and not to mention debilitating. I had to quit 3 after school clubs because I was too tired.
There was a news story about a girl named Louisa Ball who once slept for 13 day straight, she was diagnosed with a rare disease called Kleine-Levin Syndrome. People who suffer from the syndrome live normally for months at a time, with normal sleep behavior until with no warning, they’ll go to sleep for days or weeks at a time.
If they find what this disorder is, I'd really like to know. I have the same thing, and was diagnosed with narcolepsy, but I'm not sure narcolepsy is the right label.
I'm almost certain that this person has Kleine Levin Syndrome. I have KLS too. If you want more information on it or have any questions, feel free to ask me!
Lol this guy sounds a little bit like me. I swear I try as hard to stay awake in class... I've like... poured water into my eyes, splashed it on my face, bit my fingers for pain to wake me up, etc.... I really DON'T WANT TO sleep in class but it's like I can't help it. I blink and my eyes stay shut and my head drops
So im now taking into consideration of applying for medicinal marijuana. Maybe u should think about it. Im not tryin to promote drug use im just speaking on behalf of my own experiences. And for anyone wanting to know : If you are gonna smoke weed for your own health , a Vaperizer is the SAFEST & CLEANEST way to smoke cannabis. Weed does have positive medical attributes but Regardless of the Source, if SMOKE touches your lungs it IS bad.

back then the months i wasnt smoking i would be awake from anywhere 3 to 6 am and sleep for the minimum of twelve {12} hours a night. Back then that type of sleep scheduel didnt effect my life in towards me being productive or any othr probs. but now im not smoking again and its been about 3 weeks and the earliest ive gone to sleep since is 5am. and as we all know {bad sleep} conflicts with our lives
@lizmr98 , this is not a joke. Smoke some weed. Im not tryin to be funny. ive done it off and on in my past a fair share and in those times i would go 3 or 4 months with smoking it and then get bored with the experience and just up and cold turkey stop and go 3 or 4 months without smoking it and then end up repeating the cycle
this is honestly exactly like me. I sleep 18 hours a day sometimes even more. My body feels like I need the sleep. Countless sleep tests show no anwser, blood work, medication such as adderall shows no signs of helping. Doctors have no clue where to go from here. I hit REM sleep in under a minute but it takes me 12 minutes to fall asleep on average. For everyone who has the same problem they could understand that it is hard to live a normal life and have others understand you. Anyone got advice
I'm almost certain he has Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS)! I too, have KLS and I participated in a documentary about my illness. It aired about a year ago. If you'd like to see it click on my page!
i havnt gotten asleep for about 27 hours now and i just dont feel tired a single bit but oh well sumtimes i get like 1 hours sleep a day and then stay awake for like 21 hours
I need a lot of sleep, well a lot of hours of sleep. I suspect I am not getting good sleep. This bs has caused me to feel broken somehow, less than my fellow man who could get up in the morning and function at work. I dunno, so much more I want to say but it's all ramblings. This is a HUGE piece of the puzzle for me. Thanks Universe.
And along the way I've tried everything from sleep aids, melatonin, establishing a pattern of sleep for the body. I tried so hard because everyone else said I just had to try harder and then I wouldn't need 12 full hours of sleep per night to feel rested... they also said I needed to focus at work and be productive. So far I've tried so fing hard but bombed completely at "normal life". Grrr... Mad there is no info or study group for peeps like me.
he has klein levin syndrome! i was diagnosed with it a few years ago. less than 500 people are disgnosed with it, but that is what it is. i slept for 7.5 days straight last summer.
It's definitely true, teens are experiencing nowadays a sleeping disorder. I would recommend you to visit Symposier site and learn about the 3rd WASM World Congress that talks about sleeping disorder and related thing.
my god, he is easier to wake up than i am, but at least once im awake, i dont normaly fall asleep again, but its good to know that im not the only one that could sleep through a nuclear explosion
maybe he doesn't really want to stay awake. If it was not psychological he would have had a problem like this since he was born. That is my idea. Anyway a lot less illnesses ad disorders are because of external causes, than we think.
Don't you think it might have a link to hormones/puberty since it started occurring in the sixth grade? There are numerous illnesses that trigger at puberty.
Possible. I don't know. But since they were not able to diagnose it, might as well by psychological. And i find that strange that he keeps a pig that he is feeding so much it doesn't have to get up, ever.
Personally, I have trouble falling asleep, and trouble waking up. One thing that always wakes me up, though is having something damp touching my face. Someone puts a damp tissue/washcloth to my face...or shoots me with a water gun if they want to have some fun...and I'm awake instantly.
Everyone needs sleep. You will shorten your life expectancy without it. This thing is very serious. We have linked sleep to about every other disease process that can be found wrong with the body. Fix your sleep..fix your life. There are definitely people out there to help you. Sleep disorders are no laughing matter. I watch people with them every night as I as a sleep tech and it is very sad to see how badly this screws up people's body and their lives as well as their family's life.
I;m which I could sleep I haven;t slept in one month, and I have brain damage from it. Pills don;t work for me, nothing works for me.I just don;t need to sleep anymore ever again.
Even though the tests may have come out negative for Narcolepsy, he could still have it. My test came up inconclusive and as my doctor told me I definitely have severe narcolepsy with cataplexy (the cataplexy is the only reason I got a diagnosis). There is a reason the average diagnosis takes 15 years. Even if its not that he should meet the diagnostic criteria for Idiopathic Hypersomnia (unknown sleepiness)
The information this reporter is stating is inaccurate. I bet if you listen to him,he is often conscious when he appears to be asleep.Narcolepsy occurs even when the tests do not indicate it. Sleep Paralysis and Cataplexy happen upon waking up,so the alarms may actually be triggering the attacks. That is what has been happening to me for over 30 years. The hardest part is the misinformation. No one will take this seriously if we do not correct the inaccuracies.
@garycalgary me too it's quite tragic. this worst is when I'm at school or doing sometzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
He sounds like he has hypersomnia. I know what it feels like to sleep walk through life though. It really stucks when you're only really awake for 3-5 hours a day. Nothing works. It seriously sucks.

no the average sleeping time for an adult is 6-8 hours
cspring08 3 years ago
Well since you corrected Tuff 100 and Sonder like a jerk.
Allow me to do the same...
Hours of sleep for a human being is anywhere between 5 to 16 hours. Depending on age and sleep patterns.
The average is between 6 to 9.
Most peoples idea of a good sleep is 8 hours
However, your body will rest however many hours it wants and needs to from day to day.
FTW
