  • At my college we are making this play as funny and provocative as we can and it is surprisingly easy

  • east end british mother and an indian daughter.. makes sense. but anyway, doing this for my intermediate 2 piece, i'm playing monica. are bits of some of the big paragraphs supposed to be missed out?

  • I'm doing this at college - I'm Alice FitzPatrick :D

  • Im playing this for an exam, and im Monica Smithers :) x

  • i don't get it,, but k x

  • IM MONICA:-)

  • Daisy is fine, the mother is horribly out of place however - more a reflecton on the director than the actress. To my mind is a mistake to try and bring the piece into the present day - it's got so much of it's own period intrinsicly woven into it.

  • How can the mother have that accent? I'm sorry, but I am yet to hear of an opera singer who talks like that.

  • oh and tbh, i think the daisy girl is quite good. not being racist or anything but she fits in with the storyline well, you know, eastend elementary schoolgirl.

  • im sybil.. fantastic (y)

doing drama fro gcse woop x]

  • daisys shit in this :S

  • true dat.

  • im doing this for my Gcse :) im playing Sybil :) xx

  • We're donig this at my school and I'm playing Daisy! Thank the Lord. It's a good play but the language in the paly is so diffrent from hthe way most people speak nowadays that it's soemtimes hard to get the roder of the words right.

  • Hey there,

Hows it going? getting yr head around the ancient language?

wots "roder of the words" mean? is it like "ordre fo het ltetres ni het wrdos"

    D

  • i ahve an audition for this on Wednesday :S

  • Ahhhh!!! i have an audition for this tomorrow, i haven't read the script, i have just got a brace and have a huge lisp and i have no idea who to audition for!! HELP what do i do?

  • Hey, don't worry..

Have faith in yourself, use the brace and the lisp to your advantage.. the play is a comedy; have a laugh and be fun.. they'll want you cos you are fun!

You cant say Good L... in the theatre, instead they say "break a leg"!!!

  • Hi,

    How did it go..?

    D

  • we're doing this at my school i'm playing daisy. Can't wait! Also the headteacher's daughter is playing Sybil

  • This is great!

We're doing this at school for our GCSE drama course! I have the role of Daisy so I'm pretty scared!!!!! But I can't wait!

Thanks for putting this up because it helps me to form my own version to the character of daisy.

Well done to everyone who performed this!

  • Thanks for your positivity.. all the best for your role.. its a very funny play so I hope you have fun.

Dont worry about being scared.. its all part of giving a good performance (even the most experienced actors get that feeling in the pit of the stomach!)

    Best

  • A truly frightful production of a scrumptiously funny play. With the notable exceptions of the girls playing Sybil and Trixie, the rest of the cast, the director and the designer should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

    And where's the second act?

And why change the songs? The Ash Grove and Cherry Ripe (in script) are far funnier than Do a Deer and All things bright and beautiful.

    Appalling.

    See me after class.

  • Very true, quite unintelligble - especally Mrs Meridith.

  • Cool were doin an adaptation of this for our A Level drama piece so it was cool to see your performance

    Well done love it =)

  • Thank you!

    Hope you enjoy your adaptation..

  • i'm gonna be in this play as Belinda. my friend got the role i wanted :( (monica) and not because of her acting abilities but because of her personality. the drama teacher doesn't know me so she stereotyped me :(

  • i just found out im gonna play belinda, how many lines are there? thanks, libby,

  • lol I'm playing Belinda too. Whee!

  • hello. i've done this play before and i must say that ours was different, out characters acted a bit more realistic. No offence, but you guys act a little fake. Otherwise the play is ok... Cheers, Alice (Trixie Martin)

  • Hi,

Thanx for your comment, though not having the opportunity to see a video of your performance I'll have to take your word for the realism bit!

Realism in theatre is a complex subject.. sometimes stylism is the objective.

I think the stylism of the performance was a response from the cast and director to the subject. To me the whole public school bit is unreal anyway.. but hey, each to their own, eh?

  • YAY our skuls doing this nw and im the french teacher!! 3 paragaraphs!! woohoo lol

  • hi, i'm doing this right now and so i enjoyed looking at this, the acting was so full of energy and excitement! But I did feel that the girls could have perhaps put on posh accents to make it seem more real, on the whole though it looked really good. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Hi, thanks for the feedback.

The students who performed on the evening are from all over the world, the college being very international in character. I was impressed by them embracing such a classically British range of characters.. but I agree the accents reflect this. I think in some cases they did really well in articulating the play at all, given their backgrounds etc.

"Break a leg" (as they say) with your own production.

    Cheers

  • did you not have enough people for the play to contain both belinda and alice? beth

  • Hi there,

I guess this was an abridged version, as two other excerpts of well known plays were performed that evening.. The acting club at London Business School could enlighten us further,

Cheers for the fedback, DC (IdeazInc)
