I bought this record and loved it - I can't remember how old I was. Same with the Arthur album... Listening to it now, I can't believe how crap it was! Six Wives of Henry the Eighth still resonates, but all the others seem to get progressively worse and bloated. No wonder we had the punk / new wave reaction!
As a teenager in the 70s, I had pretty good collection albums, every once in a while I would come home and "catch" my father playing this album of mine. When he wasn't around I would sometimes play some of his jazz albums. I guess we didn't want to admit to each other that we enjoyed some to the same music.
My wife and I were married to this music in 1981. The justice of the peace had this playing on his office stereo when we walked in. He started to turn it off, and we asked him to let it play! We love Rick Wakeman -- and it must have been magic. 30 years later, and we're still married.
MALUCO, EM VEZ DE TOCAR A MARCHA NUPCIAL, EU FIZ QUESTÃO DE TOCAR ESTAS MUSICAS, NO MEU CASAMENTO, NA ENTRADA DA NOIVA TOCOU THE JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, ISTO FOI EM 1988, VALEU, VALEU, FOI BOM, MUITO BOM
listening to this covers my body in chills, and brings me back to my childhood: laying on the living room floor, listening to the record player....how fantastic! thank-you so much!!!
Muito bom, todas as vezes que ouço essa obra prima, parece diferente, pois o som se modifica ao novo olhar de quem contempla. pois ela acompanha nossa evolução, visão e percepção....
This takes me back to my teens i played this to death in my mk2 cortina happy days thanks for the happy memories for taking me back to those care free days!!!
Hey riversend21, thanks for sharing. Can you download please "The Storm" I think it's called. It's when the narrator says ' In silence....they waited for the storm"......then dramatic drum roll and Rick goes into a blistering, face melting Mini-Moog lead very similar to this one.
@alcatras4 The section you're thinking of is in the part before "The Forest" called "The Battle". Starts at about 5:30 into what is Side B of the original record. Definitely some face melting mini-moog action!!
Ashley was much better with 'Warhorse', an early 70s band that featured ex-Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper. His vocals were horrible on this album...not sure what Mr. Wakeman was thinking.
Still...if you can look beyond Ashley's poor vocals, the recording itself was brilliant. Thanks for the post...
The Battle was a different song, set on the sea during a fight to the death between an Ichtheosaurus and a Plesiosaurus. Both songs were on the second side of the LP version of Journey. In the long-gone days of vinyl, there were no individual tracks except, of course, side 1 and side 2.

I haven't heard this since I was probably 6 or 7
years old. My uncle was really into this record;
I listened to it so many times (with headphones
on, of course). Just seeing the record cover brings
back so many memories. Long live the '70s.
