@woodenmajor A man was attacked. The Shark spotters had spotted a shark and had put up flags which tell people to stay out of the water. This swimmer was warned twice by lifeguards not to get in the water. At the end of the day, the lifeguards cannot prevent people from entering the water. He disregarded the warnings and lost a leg. Not a very clever man, and not the first person to disregard the warnings and be bitten. Happened in South Africa, Fish Hoek beach, by a Great White Shark.

I've been diving plenty of times with sharks around and obviously I made it out ok,backing up your statistic (though that statistic is not totally accurate) but I'm still wary around them and would be nervous around a larger specimen. Sharks, like Bears, do not just go around attacking people, but they are still dangerous and demand respect, and a little fear

For anyone who wants to know: The victim lost both his legs but he's currently in hospital, alive, apparently he didn't listen to the shark warnings or see the flag that was up, and went into the water anyway, luckily he was saved by two men who happen to drive past and see the attack. I live in that exact area :)

U all are dumbasses only a few actually pay attention I used to work as a diver I'n an aquarium sharks move the tail fin from left to right dolphins move the tail fin up and down the shark must have injured a fin and was unable to move and sharks can easily mistake a surfer or swimmer for food and the shark might have been hurt and needed food because of starvation they hopefully put down the shark humanly
