I saw this rendition in Paris. There was a 10 minute open-scene standing ovation!!! simply fabulous! Is this commercially availabe? I did not see in Amazon.
@papoocanada Always the same old and exaggerated complaining about diction (due to the simple fact there is little else that could rationally be complained about). When will the critics of Joan Sutherland find another argument besides three words (diction, mushy and, the most ridiculous of all, "cold")? Come on, be more creative and criticize instead of repeating for the 5000th time the same "General Anti-Sutherland Criticism Gun"... :-P
@RosieHamster Excuse me if the opera is different (I haven't had a chance to see it sadly enough) but in the play it kind of felt like she was just used and the one person she thought loved her told her to go away, and he went insane.
i like it how this aria resemples so much the "pale et blonde" one but it is more melancholic...and Dessay is not human, she is a step upper than human and a step lower than god
dear killerbunny (strange nickname you fa an of glen close?) of course it does resemble the scene before because that's what a "reprise" is about - it picks up the theme and draws the scene to it's (and sadly her) end - what a genius Thomas was
i can believe one can sing or act like this... but both sing and act! It's too much 4a human being
my god what a magnificent performance by an angel from God!!! Her voice soars in this performance... that last note kills me everytime... and the symbolism of Ophelia turning behind the black curtain is ASTOUNDING!!!

Dessay is a goddess & the greatest interpreter of the French repertoire since Lily Pons.

Poor Ophelia, she went crazy all because Hamlet killed Polonious by accident. I feel sorry for her
