The increase in tobacco tax to fund SCHIP, as regressive taxes ALWAYS DO, will decrease revenue.

People won't stop smoking, they will just stop paying the tax.

Look to the north in Canada, where almost half of the tobacco market is bootleg/black market.

The reason this outrageous bill passed is because big tobacco - Philip Morris, RJ Reynolds would only go along with it IF congress did their part to destroy the Roll Your Own revolution. There was a last minute change made to the SCHIP bill that singles out Roll Your Own tobacco for a $23.68 per pound tax increase, 2,159%. The tax increase for all other tobacco products is minuscule by comparison - 156%.

I know this is satirical, but it's not too far off from a real commercial. I see state lottery advertisements talk about how good you'll feel for playing lottery because some of the proceeds fund schools.

I don't smoke and hate to be around it. But why should ANYONE pay taxes to subsidize the health care of children whose parents earn more money than they do, and adult children at that? After the Democrats in Congress get through screwing up our health-care system, where are WE going to go to get taken care of the way the Canadians come here?
