Some of their serious charm comes from the off-key sound of the music and vocals, right? It's been a while since I listened to them so I think I need to retrain my ear to enjoy the dark sound and not sort of get annoyed at the off-key sound.
When Jessica Rabbit did it, it was just sexy... When Rasputina does it, it seems to bring up the serious struggles of the 20s leading into the great depression.
@kittykat490 Heh, well, maybe not struggles of the 20s since that was when everyone was enjoying themselves--but yes, this song was originally written in 1936--about a year that the Great Depression was finally ending in America. If anything, this sound here is about the bitterness the woman is feeling towards the man for screwing them up and getting them thrown out during the Depression.
Why do I have the image of a sort of bohemian sort of setting with musicians telling life stories with chellos and other instruments around a campfire or on a cold street? Weird.........
My roomate is a musician, acoustic kinda punk meets Leonard Cohen, and he wrote a good song called "I'm Sorry Jessica Rabbit", about how he can't do right. It's pretty fun.
Peggy Lee's version is one of my all time favorite songs and I was SURE I would hate this but surprise, surprise I LOVE it.
