@flogsausage when sir nigel gresly the man who created the A4s died in office they hired a new chief mechanical engineer named edward thompson.During the war the A4's middle cylinder would run hot due to poor maintenenance because of the outbreak of war,thompson disliked the middle cylinder arrangement so he had all of the middle cylinders taken off all the A4s and with the middle cylinder removed it caused problems like wheel slip.Wheel slip=no middle cylinder no middle cylinder can't = 6 puffs
@PalomboDylan Almost but not quite. The A4's retained the middle cylinder (it would be virtually impossible to remove them). It was the complicated valve gear used for the middle cylinder that Thompson dissliked and so it was much simplified on his own designs and he had several Gresley locos rebuilt in such a way. Virtually all the LNER pacific were prone to slipping. Hope this bit of info is some help to you.=)

Almost looked like that A4 was on a rolling road !! Not only did it slipped but it slipped a bit longer then engines normally do without moving a mm. I've seen Black 5's and Brittania class's (even Tornado) slip when leaving Plymouth but it either stops pretty much instantly or they do start to move because of the friction caused. As i say i thought that slip went on a bit longer then im used to seeing. You certainly couldn't call that a 'little' slip
Steam engines are very similar to old sports cars. You are never going to make any money on them, always go wrong and cost lots to repair and run. But you enjoy them so you are willing to spend the money. And while people are willing to spend money fantastic pieces of british engineering like this will still be on display.
This particular steam locomotive model still holds the record for the fastest steam locomotive speed at 126 MPH. Can you imagine what that would look like?
Actually, another A4 Pacific 4468 (previously 60022) "Mallard" holds the record for 125.88 mph or something, not exactly 126 mph. At the moment Mallard is not in use for operation, thats why Tornado had to haul it from NRM to another museum.

@flogsausage when sir nigel gresly the man who created the A4s died in office they hired a new chief mechanical engineer named edward thompson.During the war the A4's middle cylinder would run hot due to poor maintenenance because of the outbreak of war,thompson disliked the middle cylinder arrangement so he had all of the middle cylinders taken off all the A4s and with the middle cylinder removed it caused problems like wheel slip.Wheel slip=no middle cylinder no middle cylinder can't = 6 puffs

@PalomboDylan Almost but not quite. The A4's retained the middle cylinder (it would be virtually impossible to remove them). It was the complicated valve gear used for the middle cylinder that Thompson dissliked and so it was much simplified on his own designs and he had several Gresley locos rebuilt in such a way. Virtually all the LNER pacific were prone to slipping. Hope this bit of info is some help to you.=)

@Cockroach2008 I will tell you one last time since you have such trouble remembering, then you have no excuse for being such an ignorant failure. 4th is responsible for the auxiliary machinery (compressors, purifiers etc etc) and take over a watch which means being left in sole charge of the engine room as well as being expected to help with other maintainance work should the need arise (eg, major work on the main engine such as cylinder overhauls). If you can't remember that now then tough.=P

Almost looked like that A4 was on a rolling road !! Not only did it slipped but it slipped a bit longer then engines normally do without moving a mm. I've seen Black 5's and Brittania class's (even Tornado) slip when leaving Plymouth but it either stops pretty much instantly or they do start to move because of the friction caused. As i say i thought that slip went on a bit longer then im used to seeing. You certainly couldn't call that a 'little' slip

Steam engines are very similar to old sports cars. You are never going to make any money on them, always go wrong and cost lots to repair and run. But you enjoy them so you are willing to spend the money. And while people are willing to spend money fantastic pieces of british engineering like this will still be on display.

Actually, another A4 Pacific 4468 (previously 60022) "Mallard" holds the record for 125.88 mph or something, not exactly 126 mph. At the moment Mallard is not in use for operation, thats why Tornado had to haul it from NRM to another museum.

Then, it needs to be painted with gangland graffiti. What a wonderful paint canvas!
When graffiti is applied, the scrap iron looks much better! It is encouragement to overs to inspire them to do artistic things with paint. It adds interest & character to the junk pile.
Junk, scrap, cut apart & melt the remaining steam locomotives!
If people need some fast cash, the bell, whistle, headlight, marker lights, gauge sets & many other parts can be removed & sold fast with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
