Some note to the 'popcorn crushes house' myth: You proved that expanding popcorn makes only 15mbar, which was insufficient to tear the small test house apart...

But regard that the force of pressure increases with surface (15mbar can e.g. not burst a pencil balloon, but easily a giant weather balloon), so its logical that it can lift the roof off a huge and lightweight hall. Imagine a warehouse with aluminium roof, where tons of corn sacks catch fire... That would be very plausible. Test it.

What they were trying to build, was a Thermobaric Device. Also known as a fuel-vapor bomb. You have to include an Ignition Devise timed to ignite the vapor after the shock wave has expanded it. A road flare or a blasting cap with a delay would have worked well. Better luck next time. PS Its not that I am knowledgeable about bombs, I just used Wikipedia.
