@peytontech No, it's the Yak-41. The aircraft was given the designation Yak-41M within the Soviet military, but this designation was classified and to 'outsiders' they called it the Yak-141.
Tests took place in late 80's, when enter to service preparing marine version of Su-27 and the current economic and political conditions do not give further continue development of the Yak-141 project. And occurred in early 90's accident - was formal reason for completely closing in Russia all theme of aircraft with vertical take-off.
Actually, the thrust at the wingtips was something implemented on the harrier, so they didnt borrow it from the russians, and the VTOL engine on the f35 is being designed and built by rolls royce in the UK. So the russians borrowed it all from the british.. We are simply the best...
@Samjapa Uhhh. the F35's tech is directly borrowed from the Yak 141. The Americans hired the Russians to help out, hence the extreme similarity of the system (twisting rear nozle, fan in middle, thrust at wing tips).
what worried me was the lack of fire fighting personel after it crashed on the deck. where were they having borscht? One very lucky pilot to have escaped.
there having a BBQ on deck

Looks like the Americans are burrowing Russian tech for a change. Looks like the F35's older brother.
