  • That is fact: His name Terry, another Terry(Labonte) wins 84' season- Terry Schoonover dies in 84'. Real Fact

  • @obilinx1 *already dead? i believe he was immidiately dead after the 1st crash before the hit the dirt bank.

  • Comment removed

  • did he die instantly or eventually

  • Comment removed

  • @XxSiiCkXKiilZxX instantly

  • @obilinx1 thanks

  • What a terrible way to end the 1984 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Season.

  • SAD

  • Both of those hits were tremendous, even if you can't actually see the first one, look at the damage to the front of the car before he hit the inside dirt bank.

  • It should've been Elmo in that race car!

  • @SaleGuy Elmo the Muppet or Langley?

  • he was dead before he hit the dirt

  • @killer44494 still this hit on the dirt looked bad enf to kill someone with out the safty in nascar cars now a days... not until what 2002? that the neckbrace thing was started to be used in nascar....

  • A day after I was born.:(

  • What kind of injuries were sustained that were the fatal one(s)? Neck? Blunt force trauma?

  • @jonesy97 I think its called Basal Skull Fracture. Not completely sure though.

  • The ware he crash they didnt have a wall till later and now ware he his in now the front strech,,,\

  • wtf! why is there a wall??

  • I think he might have died because his neck broke when he hit the dirt

  • He died cuz he probably in held a lot of dirt

  • I was at this race. In the Infield. It was cold and damp that day and we had gone in our r.v. to warm up. We felt the ground shake when that car hit that dirt imbankment. I had never heard of the driver, but at the same time I will never forget that name.

  • @JohnnyLargecock Glenn Jarrett provides as much insight to racing as a goldfish provides insight to proper crop management. He is the failed Jarrett, he even looks like a bad clone of his brother (I understand Dale is younger).

  • @JohnnyLargecock ya even if he did live im sure he would of been racing wheel chairs to be honest .. that man would of been a legend as he was so young and already had a known name and a big fan base and massive skillz behind the wheel he just had a mistake on the turn and 2 secconds cost him years ... he will be missed :(

  • @JohnnyLargecock i think most of the damage was done one the wall and the rest was just not helping i think his car killed him more then anything.. but its his sacrifice as well as 100's of other ppl who have made it as safe as it is now.. i feel bad that it took so many ppl to learn but now we have it pretty safe other then greg moore i almost damn near cried when i seen his wreck and i dont shed water from my face ever lol

  • @JohnnyLargecock back then the cars were more rigid and even the smaller crashes killed drivers due to internal injuries and or severe head truama science says mass and velocity ='s greater impacts.. now a day's the cars are much much lighter and made to crumple to absorb the g force that kills and to keep metal from obstracting the firewall in impailing the drivers

  • what track was this, may i ask?

  • @stampede122 Atlanta Motor Speedway

  • a man dies in the video and you guys have to post this filth on the board .. have some respect if it was your death in the video i would probly think you would want any thing else but what you guys are doing ...

rip terry schoonover thank you for the time you entertained us on the asphalt

  • @MrVoodooevolution yet you took the time to reply. self righteous people are idiots.

  • @applesauceman self righteous no rust respectful of ppl it really isnt that hard to respect someone who deserves it ... just dont know why ppl feel the need to act the way they do on someones video of there death in fact that would make you self righteous to not even respect the sacrifice and to talk abouve his death when the man died for entertaining his fans and the sport and yet you only reconize your own insecurerities so you feel the need to jump in tsk tsk ..

  • @MrVoodooevolution i thought you were angry that people watched the video.

  • @applesauceman noooo i think its very important we watch this stuff even more so the fans we get to respct the sport more and better yet we get to cherish our hero's as they raced to victory lane and some to a very sad lane .. that doesnt end im sure some ppl watch these video's for grotesque reasons to full fill them selves but me personally i watch for historical reasons and cuz i love the twisted metal but i like the video's more when the net from the door comes down and the driver emerges

  • @applesauceman but the one thing that bugs me is ppl talk above the topic and start fighting about nothing that has anything to do with the driver or the topic .. this is how we remember and im sure their families come to remember and sometime's come to see their missing link to there bloodline and are peppered with stupid fights ... thnx for posting back and enjoy utube :)

  • @MrVoodooevolution Very well said. It's sad some people have no respect..

  • @frieda1889 well sometimes ppl just dont think about what they type cuz if they did they would private msg each other and keep the filth of other pplz historical death vids.. but thnx anyhoo :)

  • y wud u post dis

  • @ManchesterUnited9292 Same reason you watched this

  • @ManchesterUnited9292 More importantly why don't your learn basic spelling.

  • @Roushfan5 More importantly, why don't you learn proper grammar? retard :)

  • @TheShitlersMustache He got one word right, I missed one letter in a typo. Not to mention the "r" in retard should be a capital so hey that makes you a dirty fucking hypocrite. Asshole.

  • nice camera work dickmouth

  • is this winston cup or busch series

  • They did not have HANS back then. when he hit, his head hit the steering wheel and killed him. R.I.P.

  • Speed doesn't kill, it's the sudden stop.

  • @HotttyXx Speed is relative. So you could say that traveling at 180 mph you're actually standing still and everything else is moving at 180 mph. So you could say it's the sudden acceleration that kills you.

  • @quasiphatpaul ...No. You are correct, speed is relative. But hitting the side of a hill is not acceleration, it is deceleration. Sudden acceleration can kill people but in this video it was rapid deceleration.

  • @Ryck64.....No. you are are wrong, well he is too you are both wrong. deceleration is just negative acceleration. As a force there is no such thing as deceleration it doesn't exist. It is just an acceleration vector in an opposite direction. It is the magnitude of the force that kills you, NOT THE DIRECTION

  • @dog987us You could choose to look at it that way if you want to, because that is one plausable theory, however the way I described it is the more generally accepted theory. Either way, Your comment says exactly what mine says, you just went by a different theory that simply dices a few words. And at the end I have no idea why you brought up direction because I said nothing about that.

  • @Ryck64 The direction is exactly what you did say. You said that rapid acceleration can kill but that deceleration caused this man's death. What i am saying is acceleration and deceleration are the exact same thing. The only difference is which way the force is applied to the car. There is no such thing as deceleration, we call it that but it is just acceleration in the opposing direction. Forces are vectors. Acceleration is any change in speed or direction. In this case it was speed.

  • When most racecars break apart in pieces it means the car absorbs the impact. When the car does'nt look that damaged often times that means the driver took on alot of the impact.

  • speed is butiful and dangerous

  • atlanta looks so diffrent then

  • It's called excessive deceleration, it's what killed Dale Earnheart.

  • well think just the jolt u get as soon as u hit the dirt, that sudden stop. Im thinkin thats one of the reasons

  • @obilinx1 well belive it

  • it must have been the first impact with the outside wall. he hit that bank at a pretty low speed. Another fatal crash that puzzled me is the Grant Addcox crash at Atlanta.

  • seat came lose and he got crushed against the roll cage

  • This looks to be a Pontiac Grand Prix

  • RIP! Whatever Kind of car it is!

  • @ItsYummyYumi Dude stop making fun of yourself.

  • Ummm...It killed him.

  • NO SHIT!!!! It looked like a benign, stereotypical crash at low speeds, but that is just wut I saw.

  • It was probably the initial contact with the wall that killed him. Look at the front of the car, its front end was damaged in a way that indicated a headfirst crash.

  • @whiteboy1815 Agree, I think it was the first hit with the wall.

  • DRW, it is defentley a Monte Carlo, considering its what Earnhardt won the Championship in 1980 in a Monte Carlo, So 1984 and a few years later would not be right. It is defentley a Monte Carlo.

  • anyone who thinks that car is a lumina has brain damage !!! rent Days of Thunder and pay attention, this is the first season for the Lumina when it replaced the Monte Carlo for about ten years , SS or no SS its the same body style same shit

  • They started using the Monte Carlo in 1970, the 1st year it was manufactured

  • That ain't no Lumina. It's a Monte Carlo. Luminas were not even manufactured until 1989.

  • My in law owns a 70 SS Monte, they raced these since 70.

  • They have raced the Monte Carlo nameplate on and off for years!!!! Why do you think the Monte Carlo nameplate has the most wins in NASCAR history?

  • It is a Monte Carlo. Luminas weren't raced until 1989.

  • It's a Lumina. Why would you say it's a Monte Carlo SS when they didn't even start those until 2006? O.o

  • 2006 ??? Do some research!!

  • Yeah. I'm talking about the SS not the regular Monte Carlo.

  • haha the monte carlo ss has been around a LONGGGG time. my freind owned a 83 monte carlo and i know they had them in the 70s

  • what the heck are you talking about that is a monte carlo SS and they had them in Nascar a lot longer then that. EVERY NASCAR FAN KNOWS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man how dangerous was racing all over

the world, before the recent high quality

    safety devices and track improvements.

In the old speedway days, if you rolled the

car, more than just your night was over.

  • How do you think if he is dead.

    RIP

  • Comment removed

  • it took so many yrs, full cages, hans, stronger materials. Maybe its just as well they're not the 'same' as they were even though they were the most hardcore roofed racers that ever existed

  • A crash to the concrete wall killed Terry? The safety devices in 1984 in NASCAR cars not saving lifes from a forces of a impacts like this. The cars are simply a street-car whit a multi-tubular frame. The cars construction are improved in 1986. A HANS device and a solid mounts of a driver seat probably saved his life... But infortunately never know this. RIP Terry Schoonover.

The car is a Chevy? What´s the model, please?

(Sorry, my english can improving, I know!!)

  • probably Monte Carlo

  • I think it was a lumina

  • chevy monty carlo

  • I looked this up and this was only his 2nd race he was ever in and died...

  • they never said he died

  • @snowddoogg

    you're*

  • Go to hell, you asshole! you can't say that!

  • It's not Mike Joy...it is Ken Squire.

  • What is the advantage to having a tubular frame?

  • structural rigidity and aerodynamics

  • weight is more important that both those reasons.

  • RIP

  • Hard to judge how serious a wreck is..deceleration from speed is the major factor in alot of fatalities..If you want to see a completely horrid wreck in Nascar, watch the 1969 Permatex 300 at Daytona video..Don MacTavish

  • not a bad crash, but still R.I.P Terry

  • It would be nice to show a little respect for the dead,

  • fuck you get a life and stop commenting on these vids go suck your "king" obama's cock its the only action you will ever get.

  • If a racing driver appears to have suffered head or neck injuries in a crash, rescue workers will usually cut the roof off of the car so that the driver can be lifted straight up and out of the car to prevent further injury.

  • It's the way of society today. Especially idiotic kids who have WAY too much internet time. No respect, of anything. What they need is a good hand upside their empty heads.

  • Exactly. I'm 16 by the way, but I hate my generation. People have no feelings, nor respect towards anything, even if it has to deal with a loss of life.

  • man, do no people in this comment list have any respect for this? come on! "what'd he die of? dirt inhalation?" get some respect man! Jeez!

  • @MaranelloVortex and who the hell is that parasite?

  • @mat2000100 cant remember, but alot of people like it so it must have been to some1 being an ass! :)

  • You deserve to be put across your parents' lap and have your ass smacked.

  • @P0werwise o you sad pathetic excuse for for a flesh hope get whats coming to you asshole

  • "joyfulvulture" you 9 year old kid theres no point in disrespecting terry. if you dont have anything nice to say than dont say it at all. the only reason why youre posting your stupid crap is because you want attention and thats the only reason. and you know it. you you dumb kid just shut your mouth and go take a respect class or something because aparently you parents dont teach you anything about respect.

  • nowady anyone in nascar could have walked away from that

  • Idiot. A mindless idiot. Learn some respect.

  • lol joy i laugh at ur immaturity, stupidity, rudeness, and ignorance. you need to be shot.

  • terry was knocked out by the hit from the outside wall and thats why he couldnt avoid the inside wall joy u 9 year old douche

  • who the hell belives in mohammed.

  • um grant adcox died in number #22 the driver who died in number#42 are kenny irwin jr. and terry schoonover.

  • ur right. grant adcox and terrt schoonover

  • two people have died while driving the number 42 car

  • Let's just hope that Montoya isn't the next one...

  • eu queria saber qual foi a causa do acidente e o que matou ele !!!!!!

  • good comment

  • no i happen to be legaly blind wihtout my glasses in . and fuck oyu because you know nothing of racing or the people tyhat love it. you are a worthless pice of shit and i hope you die

  • no i agree with shupershrew you need to shut the fuck up you fucking queer

  • TO TheAmusingCorpse. I SAY AGAIN. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO MAKE FUN OF A CRASH DEATH.YOU ARE NOT FUNNY. STOP TALING ABOUT DALE EARNHARDT AND ALL OTHER NASCAR DEATHS. THEY HAD A FAMILY LIKE YOU DO YOU ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • From what it looks like, he likely hit the wall head on. That is a good chance that what was what killed Terry Schoonover. Another promising career taken away. RIP Terry Schoonover.

  • He was killed by the impact with the outside wall before this, and the driver's seat dislodging from its mount. By the time he hit the dirt, he was likely already fatally injured.

  • i hope you die from that dirtbag!

  • man r.i.p how did he die in crash it didnt even look like hard hit

  • What isn't shown is the impact with the outside wall, that may have been much worse looking than hitting the dirt there.

  • RIP schoonover

  • You have no respect for human life.

  • SHARKEY Go fuck a kangaroo you little dweebe...

  • SHARKY! WILL FUCK OFF POSTIN SHITE COMMENTS ON VIDEOS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE DIED U HEARTLESS WANKER! every video i click on ur there slagging off fuckin dead people, u think ur hard behind ur computer screen do u? well heres news for u big boy! ur nothin bit a low life worthless piece of shit!

  • a SHARKY108111 its easy to talk shit on the computer bitch but i bet you wouldnt be talkin shit about terry if we were face to face dumbass hope you burn in hell.

  • didnt one of the announcers pass away

  • benny parsons in 2007

  • The announcers are Ken Squier and Glenn Jarrett. Benny and Phil Parsons were still racing as was Neil Bonnett. Terry was killed due to head-on impact with the outside concrete wall off turn two where he'd been loose all day. The secondary inside dirt bank contact was the only part of the wreck that the TV camera caught. RIP Terry - a nice guy.

  • Folks need to remember that TV technology was not the same back then. In fact, it was ESPN all those years learning stuff that Fox simply picked up and now acts like they began.

This was only his second Winston Cup race and, unfortunately, his last. Atlanta was deadly for awhile. Schoonover in 84, Adcox in 89, and pit member Mike Rich was crushed on a pit stop by Morgan Shepherd's car in 1990 - all at the same track.

  • Mike was hit by Ricky Rudd's car, the 5 car. They were fairly good friends.

  • All righty, got my facts wrong. I think Rich worked for Bill Elliott, right? Maybe I'm thinking that Shepherd won that race. Anyway, thanks for the correction.

I also remember Ward Burton hitting one of Rudd's guys (obviously an accident) in the head in either 2001 or 2002 - which is why we now have helmets.

  • Yep, Mike was on Elliott's crew and Morgan won the race, in the 15 car I think.

  • Damn you man.

  • I looked up his name and Schoonover ran in only his 2nd Winston Cup race. What a damn shame. RIP

  • RIP TERRY :(

  • poor guy, how did he get all the way over there? did he pass out or something?

  • I really believe this is a classic example of if the safer barriers were in place Terry would still be with us. RIP Terry :(

  • u guys are dumb- he was dead from the impact that the camera missed, way dead before he ever got to the dirt bank RIP

  • holy shit that is a hard crash.

    nice video dude!

  • Is that Benny Parsons?

  • sounds more like neil bonnet
