I've had a VHS copy of the "Guitar" video for many years, and my favourite section has always been Les Paul and Brian May at "Fat Tuesday's". RIP Les Paul!
At the end Brian says "Les Paul will always have my greatest respect - an innovator, a wonderful distinctive player, and an essential pillar in the foundations of modern rock. God bless 'im!! "
Brian has a tribute to Les Paul on his website and about this clip he says "you'll see that I'm mostly singing, not playing, like most guitarists did when they were guests at this, his "Fat Tuesday's" club. The reason was I didn't feel worthy of competing! Listening to this, I realize for the first time what lovely counterpoint and detail Les was adding to the song at the time. I was too busy wondering if I could remember all the words, probably!"
It's not pathetic, my dear friend. In fact, it's really sad. Such sad lost a genius like him. A truly master of guitar. I think the whole world shed a tear. RIP Les Paul! We love you..
Yes, this did happen and I was there. This was filmed at Fat Tuesday's Jazz club in NYC, March 25th, 1991. This video comes from a home video called 'Guitar' that showcased Brian May, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour and others. Brian only played two songs, this one, called 'Early Morning Blues,' and another, a jam in C.
Lol..it was pretty damn amazing! I happened to be home that afternoon and turned on WNEW FM...and Brian May was in the studio! And just casually mentioned he was playing that night with Les Paul, filming for the Guitar video.
I went with my buddy, and wound up hanging with Brian at the bar and sharing a beer and Queen talk and then accompanying him thru the backway kitchen entrance to make sure we'd get in! My buddy mentioned to Brian inside the small jazz club 'not quite Wembley, huh, Brian?' with a wink.
Did that actually happen or was one of them a hologram? :-)
Seriously, though, that's AWESOME! One of the most innovative men in rock 'n' roll, paired with one of the most underrated and pretty damn innovative in his own right, both doing great! WOW!
two true masters of music. people like brian may and les paul are a dying breed of musicians, forget the jonas brother and hannah bloody montana as long as people like them are about true music will never dye
I believe this song is originally by Leadbelly called "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" But it doesn't sound the same, Leadbelly's is kind darker. You'll know what I mean when you hear it.
Revelations, I would agree with you, but he has horrible authritis in his fingers now. He can only play with 2 fingers. He still plays great. See at him at the Iridium Jazz Club! It's worth it!
Guitar builder's meeting.
prefer RS than les paul.
