It's amazing how during an incident people have the time and nerve to get the camera out and start recording. Don't worry about the evacuation, just keep filming.
Actually you should just stand there blocking the exits filming whilst people are trying to evacuate!
@praetorian2150 Nope, Microbursts are low altitude occurrences, and have slightly differing effects on the aircraft. This was caused by a malfunction of the autopilot during cruise, nothing to do with meteorological conditions.
yea.. alway fasten ur seatbelt whenever your seated. but if you fly within any city in Indonesia by any Indonesian airlines except Garuda you can find lot of the passengers don't fasten their seatbelt and even they can texting while the aircraft was still enroute.
and even when the aircraft just landed the passenger just stand up and open the overhead compartment
@dannycis461 Every airline has their share of incidents, it's not just qantas that has this sort of incident, a few years before an air france flight had a computer malfuntion that sent the plane plunging into the earth, if you ask me I think that nearly all qantas incidents were the manufacturer's/plane's fault.
i talked to a QF engineer on the flight deck while towing an aircraft at Perth and he said that the computer didnt allow the pilot to make any input with the flight controls. only after shutting down the computer on the overhead panel, the pilots were able to fly the aircraft again. it might have been a disaster if they didnt shut down that computer
well... to those who dont keep seatbelts fastened even when the seatbelt sign is off, wake the fuck up! they dont tellyou to keep it fastened at all times for no reason.
I know the video is shaky and has very little action but it is compelling nonetheless. You can see how everybody was in a daze, especially in the silence of the passengers. They just survived a near-death experience. I think the Air France flight that just crashed endured a similar problem with its plane's computer malfunction. Unfortunately, the results were far more tragic.
Sorry for the Passengers and families of AirFrance flight on AirBus330 which is similar to QF72 that plunged in midair. There was Engineering Note on computer programmings sent by Airbus to its customers after the investigation. It was very obvious that there were 'computer problems' on QF72 which the pilot somehow overcame, thank God.
The ADIRU's installed in the Airbus 330 during the incidents involving flights QF71 and QF72 were manufactured by Northrop Grumman whereas the ADIRU installed on Air France flight 447 was manufactured by Honeywell.
True. You might want to look into XL flight 888T which it now seems crashed because of a similar problem - uncommanded pitch up by the coputer on a full autopilot landing approach, then possibly the computer overriding the pilots and attempting to correct the resulting stall by going nose down - this recovered the stall, but the aircraft never made any attempt to pull out of the descent.
@squirrelnut1965 um, no. I'm not sure about this accident, but I have seen several incidents involving the airbus fly by wire system, all because the pilots wern't properly trained. Fly by wire is great, the pilots just have to be informed how and when it interferes, so they know and can predict it and then know what's going on when it does.
First of all, it was not turbulence, there was a failure with the "inertial reference system" - in airplane speak, its a computer that instructs the systems on emergency compensatory maneuvers - in other words, if it detects a stall, it will automatically compensate by pushing the nose down.
In this case, the system malfunctioned, and did not one, but two very sudden downward nose motions. That's how so many people were injured - and seriously.
And secondly, Qantas has never had a JET passenger aircraft fatality; they had some prop aircraft crash fatalities during World War II while it operated as an extension of the Allied Forces in World War II. There were also additional incidents with said aircraft postwar.
I think the passengers were very lucky to be on a QF operated flight! If it was Virgin they would have handed out homebrand bandaids and told everyone to shut up!
Latest News - Qantas jets collide at maintenance base. Two Qantas jumbo jets, one of which was damaged in a mid-air explosion in July, collided on the ground at a maintenance base on Tuesday, the airline said.
I wonder who is the lucky one that is going to sit onto that 17 years old plane with series of'injury'.
I hate the damn news gimps, "In other news a Qantas aircraft plummeted over ten billion feet in what passengers are calling magic, bad news after Qantas hired that wizard to do their maintenance" Typical of journalists to blow things out of proportion, in the same week a REX aeroplanes nose wheel fell off but it failed to even MAKE the news! Ignorance sucks.
Qantas seriously needs to re-think their decissions of relocating maintenance departments and laying off excessive numbers of Australian workers within the company. We all know there are issues like fuel, payment, etc. but it's too much of a gamble for an airline that hasn't had a fatal crash yet.
You are remarkably well informed. Better informed even than the Australian CAA, professionalm pilots, the American FAA and the authorities in the Phillipines. Just what is your hidden agenda?
Was a fault with the Air Data Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU), which caused the autopilot to dissconnect and erroneous data to be sent to the flight controll computers.

It's Qantas, and they're rated the safest airline in the world, with no fatalities. Every airline has the occasional safety incident - it's just unlucky that Qantas has a few incidents / accidents in the past few months.

Qantas is one of the safest airlines in the avation, there have been only 4 incidents and no plane crash at all, consequently no one ever died on a flight
A Qantas 747 did come off the end of a runway in 1999 with a collapsed nosewheel. That is a "crash". I think Qantas needs to be careful of the safest airline as no one died statement. An airline is only as safe as its last flight and 2 serious "incidents" in 2008 is pushing their luck.

I would say the aircraft has crossed a boundry get stream, they are in that area, and are very fast. They can pitch an aircraft big time.

Qantas is becoming trashy, seriously. A once elegant, classy and safe airline not to mention the 2nd oldest in the world, is becoming an embaressment to the aviation industry.

how the fuck did 10 cops get on the plane? I mean was there a prisoner onboard or did they magically float to the plane :/
Liquidemblem 3 years ago
they stay in a different section of the plane away from the passengers. All airlines have them now since 9-11

Where in the plane do they stay? In the luggage holding bay!? >:D
I'd go join them... play hide 'n' seek... or something...
Booshibonton 3 years ago
haha idk where they stay i just know that all airlines have armed "personel" on board.
Tr3v3336 3 years ago
not all flights, slected international and reason police were aboared was because they landed Learmonth Airport WA, stairs, the things u walk up were placed next to aircraft and police walked up stairs and into aircraft along with paramedics
