Nice old footage. My first live concert was Exodus, Slayer & Venom 4/19/1985 at the Hollywood Palladium. I'm stoked that I was able to see all these killer bands at their rawest: Venom, Possessed, Slayer, Exodus, Dark Angel, Death Angel, Mercyful Fate and so on. It was a great time to be 15 & discovering & seeing all these titanic groups.
its fuckin unbelievable that this boring audience was listening to metal history...................................too bad that i was born in 84.....
back then slayer were pretty unknown so they didn't have much real fans, actually you can see one person banging,... folks just went there to see what's going on, they didn't know this band would become one of the leading groups of a new genre :)
Damn, Tom was so great on bass at that time, well he still is but he played the bass with his fingers and he played a P-bass! Thank god (or whatever) for SLAYER!!
What's up with these unappreciative bastards in the audience? I was 1 year old when this was shot, I would have killed to have been able to see Slayer in the early 80's!
@gr8zombiejesus yeah man 80's Slayer was better than they are now, the fires gone out of them these days, this stuff is awesome, but yeah it has Iron Maiden all over it especially after 2:25. But did you see KK on Flight 666? These guys worshipped Maiden back in the day, no wonder they tried to sound like them, Maiden were filling arena's in the US in the early 80's.
Crionics is suppose to be Cryonics, which is the preservation of humans by freezing. Basically the old language means 'cold'. The first couple verses of this song talks about being put into this state.
this was basically Motley Crue's audience at the time. they didn't know what to think of a band like Slayer. Metallica went through the same thing. thrash was just beginning and it would take a couple of years for people to catch on.
True. 3/28/83 - "Kill 'em All" wasn't even out yet. only a handful of the most diehard thrash metal fans knew what it was. This is way ahead of its time. A hardcore punk audience would've been more at home at this gig.
they shoulda left the beginning for the album. I could imagine a guy being frozen after he dies and then when he wakes up in the future DUUUN DUN the part we know and love starts.
omg..tom and jeff with short-ish hair lol never thought id see the day, but yea thats my fav song from show no mercy, and the reason why it has an iron maiden sound is coz maiden were one of the direct influences on slayer along with judas priest, they started out playing maiden and priest covers. its also hard to believe that this vid is 7yrs older than me lol...SSSLLAAYYEEEERR!!!
the intro reminds me a little bit of children of the damned and not to mention that the show no mercy album has quite a bit of iron maiden influence compare to the later slayer albums.
Slayer's best song IMO. The intro, and 2.20 On is total Stained class/ Sad wings Judas Priest worship. Also notice how they go into completely different riffs for about 5-10 seconds until another rythem shift, total Mercyful Fate inspired there. Actually the whole song sounds like Judas Priest and Mercyful Fate combined with Araya on vocals.
yeah i think you mean the intro xD i have known that after i postet a comment and i was too lazy to correct it ^^ (sorry for my english I'm from germany ^^)
i dont see this song as beeing a good proof on slayer was inspired by iron maiden or judas priest... i know they were but their music dosent sound any near judas or maiden... \,,/ Slayer GODS OF THRASH METAL! they started this genre man ... and they woop so much ass \,,/ Fuckin' Slayer!
One of my favourite songs from Show No Mercy album! Very powerful! But it's beginning on this video is pretty weird for Slayer...Judas Priest and Iron Maiden influences are widely seen here!
rofl @ kiss dance move rip-offs. man what i'm glad they turned out the way they did instead of like this. everybody starts somewhere though. <3 slayer.
did dave use a double bass kit before hell awaits or something
