I don't doubt that Cubs-White Sox is a huge deal in Chicago. But Red Sox-Yanks is made up of two gigantic neighboring regions that overlap. That and the fact that the two teams have played each other almost 2,000 times, as opposed to the Cubs playing the White Sox less than 100 times. Even a New Yorker will tell you that Sox-Yanks is bigger than even Yanks-Mets.

You could say "Cubs-White Sox is as big to their fans as Red Sox-Yanks is to their fans," but Red Sox-Yanks is the bigger rivalry.

you are comparing two unlike things here. trust me i grew up in mass and now live in chicago. iv been to cubs white sox and yankees red sox at all four ball parks. crosstown is different then sox yanks. it pits family, friends, coworker, and entire city against one another. sox yankees in my mind is more bitter & historic.
