It's a good thing the inkjet printer won't be using Brother ink cartridges or technology because it would probably cost about $5k for a 17" screen with banding....

haha you guys dont understand it at all, you can not just print a screen somewhere, the screen contents several layers, and some of them can be printed using a inkjet printer, so the production is a lot cheaper. besides of the screen it needs also drivers and stuff ;)
Low resolution OLED displays can use a passive cell structure similar to that used in passive LCDs. Higher res displays would still need to use an active structure like TFT. Either way the OLED materials and driving electrics would still need to be layered onto the glass substrate. For TV applications you would also need to include an anti-reflection film on the front glass. All in all the production process is not that much less complicated than LCD, but LCD fabs are much bigger at the moment.
