  • I work with the homeless in Tucson. Lots of the homeless to have substance abuse problems. They self-medicate due to underlying mental health problems or the extreme stress of being lost in the world. I must say that I work with people who are homeless that have college degrees. Sure, there are some lazy bums, drunks and drug addicts out there, but the majority are either mentally ill, lost a job due to no fault of their own and there are lots of older ones who can't get social security yet.
