  • Voters opinions have to be shared!! Will you trust 0bama's new Health care policy? Go over to my tube profile to check out exactly why Americas points of view are valued !!!

  • OPT OUT of blomacare..

    NOBODY wants it..

    ITS poison....

  • Car Insurance works the same way... If you're on the freeway and someone sideswipes you, good luck getting a good insurance rate for a long time.. Some car insurance companies will deny you also if you've been in accidents.

She can always go to an ER and they will still take care of her and bill her.. then all she will have to pay for is HER treatment, not some insurance companies private jets...

  • How dare she criticize insurance companies for denying her a healthcare plan. How are they supposed to make ridicules profits and pay their CEO's millions of dollars if they have to accept some ill people! Insurance is a profit business, why can't she just get sick and die quietly? American capitalism is great and it's people like her who are trying to stop this great American system.

Seriously, how disgusting have American morals become? People who defend them are simply cold heartless shells.

  • I can't really wrap my head around what Lisa is trying to say. Don't get me wrong, she seems like a very nice woman, but she doesn't even begin to know how much her treatments cost. Water in the brain? Yowch. That's GOT to be expensive, no doubt, but you also don't consider the fact that you will gain much MUCH more financially out of the system than you will have put into it. Of course, that's how insurance works, but it doesn't achieve the same affect if you are already sick when going in.

  • If you find yourself judging the poor, go instead to your church or other place of worship and volunteer there. It's past time to fix this broken health care system and it's past time for people to learn some compassion. I have a hard time understanding the Right's position on this. It seems so counter to the christianity that I learned growing up.

  • My story ends well as I am finally working and back to being a "productive" citizen. Not that I wasn't before, as I utilized my unemployment to do volunteer work while looking for a job.

I wish everyone here godspeed and for all of you who posted hateful comments, please, please, please, spend some time volunteering - in nursing homes, in soup kitchens, in group homes, etc. See the people that are discarded by the system.

  • I want to let you all know that I am no longer unemployed. I have a great job with a great company & have health insurance again. I'm disappointed in the level of discourse that has occurred here. We have a great opportunity in the U.S. to take on our moral & ethical responsibility to care for our poor and instead we get people saying some very hateful things. I have a hard time understanding why the 'Christian Right' isn't on board with this and would rather let our poor go w/o medical care.

  • I do feel bad but that's life for ya. Now if you want you can become a canadian citizen and you'd have instant health care or you can go to mexico for cheeper procedures, but don't drag us all down with ya.

  • Oh dear, you're an American? Is that how you would like to be treated? Wow

  • Ouch thats cold, is christianity different from every country? Because the christians in america seems to be selfish and only look out for themselves.

  • True it if cruel for me not to help but what's even worse if for everyone to have to have the same low class "treatments" that can hardly be called treatment. I personally don't want to screw others over just because people DON'T ask for hand outs from their churches from their communities from their family and even from their state, county or government OR other willing companies that will spend money for people to get treatment... now i say that they should fend for themselves *sarcasm!*

  • perfectly said, Christianity is America is all about money and being forgiven for what you have done that week. That's it.

  • Huh?

Christianity has nothing to do with PUBLIC PROGRAMS. Try reading The Good Book once in a while.

There's nothing wrong with our medical system. And you Canucks benefit from our 'greedy profit-driven' system every time you get a pill or some sort of medical technology available to you. Those aren't made in the government-run healthcare system, you know. They are developed down here. As well, the treatments this woman gets, aren't available up there.

    Questions?

  • what good book, War and Peace, The Great Gatsby, you cant mean the story book the Bible can you.

FYI im not from Canada, I live in a country that develops lots of drugs, has a health care system just as good as the one that your country offers to your priverliged citizens. When was the last time you went into a hospital outside of America?

Before you spout your lies and rubbish travel some.

Would your god deny someone the treatment they needed to live if they could'nt pay? Most probably

  • There's only one book so named that's capitalized, so you're either being ignorant or purposely snarky. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the former.

Which brings me to the point of your response. In what other country are the drugs and technologies developed in a socialist economy? During my whole time in Military Intel, I never saw the like anywhere but here. But I guess you would assume folks would just take your word for it since you typed it here.

    It ain't so.

  • well not sure what countries you think in Europe are socialist, apart from France maybe. Just because a country has a national healthcare system dose not make it socialist. But getting to our point about drug companies

    Glaxo smithkline, AstraZenaca UK

    HoffmannLa Roche, Novartis Switzerland

    Bayer, Merk Germany

Just to name a few, all these countries offer a national health services.

just because you heard it from Hannity dose no make it true.

    Army intel???????????

  • @cecilbdml Who funds the research that drives these medical technologies and leads to new "pills"?

  • You guys have some really screwed up views about how "great" national heatlh care is. I think you've been fed a load of crap from your liberal handlers and haven't really done the research for yourselves. Do this, look up the caps placed on elderly and children in England's health care system. Look up how the Canadian system now wants to privatize because it is bankrupt. Read more about the review panels for care written into the Obamacare plan.

  • mbsells77 you need to walk in my shoes just for a day. As a physician do you want to know what a large part of my day consists of? Not treating my patients like I should be, but rather arguing with insurance companies to get coverage for tests, or drugs that my patients need. I work in a very small very poor community and I do what I can for my patients, but when the insurance companies say my patient can't have this done or that done...since you're so smart what am I to do?

  • I'm sure you are a physician that supports national healthcare and with it- limits on physician pay. I'm equally sure you actually spend time on the phone with insurance companies rather than having your actual staff handle these matters. Finally your job is to treat the patient, not decide the fate of the patient when an insurance company may not cover a necessary procedure.

  • Right, The people of England will never give up there public health care. I've been there and your dead wrong.

Stop watching FOX. Do you think Rupert Murdoch is trying to get Australia on a private system? Ohhh he has more money than God thanks to the ads from all the drug companies.

  • you filth liar, what is your motivation, My 82 yr grandfather just had triple heart bypass even after having prostrate cancer. Do you know what it cost nothing! Carry on watching Hanity, you moron. your health system is also killing your industry, the rest of the world dose not want you to reform, it makes all your industries uncompetitive, good luck when China owns you all !!!! long live Wal-mart!!!!

  • by the way Moron i am in the UK, I love the way you sponges believe all that Fox news tells you..

motivation? are you a lobbyist, lets hope your life goes as planed and you don't loose your health insurance when you need it most... I love America and spend 9 months a year there, but it's js too expensive, with property tax, income tax, health insurance premiums. It's 15% more than i payed in the UK. At least in the UK you get something for your taxes

  • How much do you pay in taxes bmer650? In Canada a person making $35K pays 49% in taxes. Here a person who is making that same kind of money, with their deductions, wouldn't pay more than 18% in taxes. I don't believe they treated your grandfather at 82 with a triple bypass because in England he would be well over the $45K limits placed on care in his age range and if for some reason he was allowed to go through such a procedure then it cost him half his pay and your pay these past few decades.

  • Of course you wouldn't believe it you are a brain washed minion, I can tell you my income tax is more than yours in the US but i pay far less property tax and do not have to pay for health insurance, so if you add all that up.. you pay more in the USA!! BUT you get nothing in return, just the ability to fight wars around the world benefiting people that hate us all!!!

In the UK we do not have to save $100'000's to pay for college for our children, no one needs to be scared to get sick.

  • Where do you get all your information from mbsells77? First you say the UK puts caps of 45k to elderly and children, which I find hard to believe but i'm not from the UK. I am in canada however and theres no mention here about turning to the private sector, thats only a scare tactics use here used by politicians. 45% taxes? for $35k earner? I say its aroudn 20-30% depending if you have dependants, home renovation credit. Lots of factors. So plz get your information with more one source.

  • You guys do know that in England, people over the age of 65 are capped at $45K worth of treatment. So if you need a bi-pass, cancer treatment, hip replacement, then it is rejected. The same applies for children, if a child needs care over $45K they are also denied. Why? Because the old person no longer contributes and the young person has not contributed. Socialized medicine has failed in every nation that uses it- every single one. Canada is now looking to privatize health care.

  • We need the public option. The insurance companies will screw us without it.

The Republicans want to help the rich and screw the poor. They dont care about the majority of people.

They want to cut taxes for the rich, but then there is less money for social programs for the poor and middle class. Republicans don't want a public option, because there insurance buddies wouldn't be able to make as much money.

To the blue dog democrats, dont be traitors. Get back to your democratic roots.

  • What she doesn't understand is that ALL health care could be withheld from her until (i.e. never -- like all fat people) she magically turns into a thin person. A government-run program WILL devolve into euthanasia & eugenics: government power always sinks as low as it possibly can. Any disabled person (i.e. me) who wants to live a full life span without being euthanized MUST OPPOSE OBAMA. Follow-the-patient vouchers used in a private sector system solve the problem without allowing eugenics.

  • private healthcare is there for the money state run is there for the health

  • I can't waite till the first Obots have family members go before the review board and are shut down. All these idiots on these videos would be refused care under Obama anyway due to cost and lack of return. Your value in society is only what you can contribute- and if your sick, well then your useless to society. Sounds mean? Well that's exactly what socialized medicine is- heartless.

  • mbsells77,

Can't wait till mindbots like you turn a gun on yourselves, for being real shitz.

  • "Your value in society is only what you can contribute- and if your sick, well then your useless to society" Neither Obama or the current health care reform bill states anything like this statement that you have made. I can't wait until you get sick and your healthcare company drops you. Obama's bill prevents this from happening and prevents insurance companies from refusing to coverage to sick people. He is trying to make sick people better and to prevent healthy people from getting sick.

  • Most of us, 85% of Americans have private insurance that does not simply drop people as you would put it. I've had surgeries and my insurance was there for me. The difference is that a public option is simply a tool to sieze 20% of the economy, then to force the people to have to go through a review to recieve treatment. The Canadians are already looking to go back to a private health care since their system is bankrupt- the same will happen here, just like Social Security and Medicare.

  • google the bill and read through it for a while. It really makes sense and helps everyone out. The only reason I support this bill in congress is because I read it and like what I read, as an uninsured and uninsurable US citizen.

  • Well Lucky YOU but tell that to the hundreds of thousands of people who were dropped or who were denied care. People tend to live in a "ME & MIne" state of mind and that's why this country is so messed up. Can you be 100% sure that they they won't drop you, wouldn't you like to have more options if they do?

  • kmwagner why are you lying? Obamacare does exactly that, review for procedures given age, to determine if these procedures are to costly given your value in society. Maybe you fell asleep recently but the AARP lost over 70K members because the organization supports Obamacare. Once the facts outlining mandates for elderly citizens became apparent, the seniors started dropping AARP like a bad habit.

  • With current system, private insurance by defacto don't insurance our senior citizens. Go to their website and look at the rate over $1000 (that is you don't have pre-existing cond). Most elderly have some form of health issue. MEDICARE IS GOVERNMENT RUN. Senior can't do without them. Private Ins is so damn great, get ur head straight Republicans.

  • sophiymarie49 thank you for being a voice of reason,I was about to tell--mbsells77 to eat a crap sandwich!

  • I'm not so nice I told mbsells77 to turn the gun on himself

  • Republicans had 8 years in the Presidency and 14 years controlling the senate and house; and what did we get? Republicans shotdown healthcare reform in '93, called Bill Clinton the worst president for repairing the destruction of Reagan., and took us into 2 wars, 1 for oil, lying to us the whole time about WOMD - AND NOW Repubs want you to believe them!?!

  • Hey lady, under socialized medice they will let you die because you cost the system to much. Democrats have been the slave party ever since this country was founded and now want to enslave the American working man with more taxes.

  • mbsells77, honestly, doesn't what you said about letting people die sound a bit silly? This is at least the 10th lie I've heard about the health reform bill.

What it actually says is that the govt. will pay your private doctor to take the time to counsel elderly, ill people about end-of-life plans, like how much medical intervention they want, whether they have someone to pay their bills at home if they are unable to write checks, etc.

  • A common myth which exists in the United States is that we do not already ration our health care. The most obvious way in which we ration health care is between those who have insurance versus those who do not have insurance. Even for those who do not have insurance and seek medical attention in emergency rooms, they are more likely to put off seeking medical attention until the problem has become severe and less likely to receive follow-up care.

  • Slave party with a black president, LMAO, how ironic. Republicans our now the southern Dems of the past, shit changes stupid

  • There is plenty of stupidity out there. The USA is 37th in longevity means health care sucks? No, it has to do with genetics and society, but health care in the USA is probably the best in the world.

Cubans build boats to come to the USA, but americans don't try to move to Cuba because the USA has a better economy. Canadians and Europeans come to the USA for treatment but not the other way around because?? Yes, the US has better health care. Everything else you hear or read is subjective.

  • texasgringooo, there is misinformation in your comments. The USA is not rated 37th in longevity, (we are actually rated 24th for that) we are 37th in our health system when compared to others.

  • What good is it if your country has the "best health care in the world" but a sizable chunk of its population has no access to it (due to financial constraints)? Why should someone panic about not having enough health coverage because they lost their job? Are chronic/emergency medical conditions expected to go on "holiday" until a worker finds other employment?

Americans go elsewhere for treatment for the same reasons foreigners travel to the USA: cheaper costs, less waiting, specialists.

  • Americans are moving to Mexico to retire for affordable perscriptions, I've seen it first hand. They don't build boats they drive across the boarder dumb shit

  • Hydrocephalus is "water on the brain"? no!! It's when CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) pressure increases in the CNS due to either too much production, not enough removal or because part of the pathway of CSF flow is blocked; however, everyone has "water" (CSF) in the brain.

  • Maybe you should actually read the bill before you say it include assisted suicide. A living will is ment to help your family make decisions based on what you want when you aren't able to make them yourself!

  • If it is proper that a Central Authority guarantee health care, why not the more immediate essentials for life, food and shelter; why not clothing?

The underlying premise is a form of Communism, where the Government assumes the ultimate role for taking care of everyone. This is the absolute antithesis of the concept of American Freedom. It is part and parcel of a utilitarian life view that underpinned the great Socialized Societies, which we defeated in World War II and in the Cold War.

  • to philkaptoun

England Australia New Zealand Canada have public plans Are they commies w/ bread lines

US friend waited 3 mo for surgery

Danish friend waited the same amt of time for the same surgery.

46 mil US people are uninsured

18000 unisured Moms Dads Grandparents Sisters Brothers Children die every year!

Get sick / Lose job Bye Bye insurance

US 37th in longevity & healthcare Lower than some undeveloped countries This is America!

    WE can't do better?

    We're 37th! We're 37th! Rah!

  • phikaptoun, no part of the health reform bill is talking about guaranteeing health care, (although 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness' seems a bit impossible without it) the bill is talking about not allowing insurance companies to reject people for pre-existing conditions. Also the bill would provide affordable, public health insurance as an option. Insurance, not health care, got it? And optional.

With your neg. attitude on what is socialism, do the police, firemen, army count?

  • If that's supposed to make me retract my previous statement, I can do nothing but laugh at you. I'm actually totally for that anyway...so good lol.

  • tests cost money. companies don't want to insure you for cheap if they know you're going to need expensive tests. solution: force other people to to insure me or force insurers to insure me even though they'll lose money doing so. amazing! how about find ways to lower the costs of these tests rather than telling doctors 'ok, no more raising costs!'

  • It must be very difficult to lose weight but I don't her weight had anything to do with her hydrocephalus,

There are so many obese people in the U.S.A. something really should be done about it. What? I don't know other than stop eating the wrong food! Eat right!

  • Just show your birth certificate.

You know: that simple document that lists your birth date, the hospital where you were born, the doctor that delivered you, your parents' names... your birth certificate.

  • Ooops shit I meant to rate 5/5 and I clicked 4. I feel for this lady, I wish her the best.

  • joikido ye might like this quote

It is a sobering thought, first expressed by john Locke in 1689 in his treatise ´A Letter Concerning Toleration': 'No man can be forced to be healthful, whether he will or no.' In a free society, individuals must judge for themselves what information they chose to heed, and what they ignore.

  • joikido likes ye quote. why that quote and how did you come upon it?

  • cowen is my shepherd, i shall not work he leadeth me beside still factories yea, though i wiat for my dole I owe the bank that fefuses me cowen has anointed my income with taxes my expenses runneth over my income from hence forth we will live all the days of our lives in a rented home with an overseas landlord i am glad i am irish i am glad that i am free but i wish i was a dog and cowen was a tree
  • i think most people pay insurance to cover most etreme costs, no?

plz dont yell at me ( or cuss, swear and insult) it seems that people have taken advantage of not actually talking to someone in person and thereby tyrading without consequences.

  • It's a shame the health insurers weren't amongst the companies bought out by the government, then they'd really have health care by the boot strap. They could use the health insurers as a third party to create a money loop that benifits the tax payer. Let the price of healthcare go up arbitrarly turning a big profit to health company X. Tax health company X and turn that profit to the government. The government then turns that profit to the health insurers who then lower to cost of health insura

  • The end result is buy health insurance or suffer huge health bills. Also lets the government rake in big royalties on foreigners who go to America for treatments. Insurance works better if more people buy into it. It also keeps out illegal immigrants and drug dealers. It would also inevitably lower costs even though the price is way up.

  • I am like her and I have no health care......thankyou for trying to help us Mr.Obama

  • Who says she is not contributing to Society?

  • Everyone look up and study the words utilitarianism and deontology. Learning a little about the philosophy behind ethics will help both sides of the discussion.

  • Thank you for speaking out, Lisa. You highlight the importance of regular monitoring and how that can save lives (and money!) in the long run. Take care.

  • Each human needs insurance - It can happen every day. Even unexpected...

    Greetings from Germany

  • Health insurance should be available to every person, regardless of pre-existing conditions. Each insurer has agreements with the doctors and hospitals already - everyone should get that benefit. If the law said everyone had to buy a policy (as auto insurance is regulated in some states), and they were available at a reasonable cost - health care would be in a better state today.

  • I keep listening to various politicians talk about healthcare as if it is an impossible task and that there is no way we will be able to have a cheaper govt. option and still have employers provide health care. Why do we act like we are re-inventing the wheel??? Ask France how they do it? It will be a complicated system of tax incentives on companies that carry their employees and low premiums paid by the citizens. And in the end, nobody will find themselves both sick and homeless.

  • Whats yours is mine and whats mine is mine too

If you shake my hand better count your fingers

Jews were considered to have a negative societal contribution, so much so that the Nazi's couldn't afford to let them live. No one should be explicitly singled out due to their contribution to society. People being implicitly singled out due to their net wealth is a consequence of the current system, not a goal.

Price caps and subsidies are the way to go.

  • Nevermind, that's wrong. I was bitten by the liberal bug and went dumb. Caps and subsidies which lower the price of healthcare (which isn't the same thing as lowering the cost) make healthcare more avaiable to drugdealers, illegal immigrants, and people from other countries at the expense of the American tax payer. Lowering the cost of insurance for Americans who work or who have worked with a certain time period or who have a permenant disability is the way to go.

  • Obama should erect a new court of law that deals exclusively with healthcare, and write an ammendment that shields that court of law from other ammendments in the constitution. He should elect a group of justices to oversee that court. The courts primary role should be to control the rising cost of health care by capping it quarterly , and controlling the rising cost of perscription medication.

  • Who better to do that than a harvard educated lawyer.

  • I really hope that public option becomes available, but I worry because after Obama trys to do some good a sea of lunatic republicans criticizes him and he backs down. Obama needs to be asertive now!

  • People seem to miss the fact that when an uninsured person uses the ER for their healthcare, we are already paying the price. Thats part of the problem with the broken health care system. We would be aghast at a motorist driving around uninsured as that costs the rest of us, but if a human being doesn't have health insurance, it's okay? It would be cheaper to provide preventative health care than to have the taxpayer pay for expensive procedures when preventative maintenance is cheaper.

  • This youtube page is becoming a second home to some people

  • Any reasonable government will have health care for all of it's citizens. Americans are totally crazy to even make this a political issue. Stop bickering and cover all Americans. Access to health health care is a right and never a priviledge just like access to education and social services. Preventive Primary Health Care as declared in the 1978 Alma Ata. Health for all. Stop the pride America. You are like the rest of the world. Capitalism is strangling you enough already. Wake up America!!!

  • Jesus christ. It's a good thing that youtube and such websites can be totally anonymous so that people like me can argue against arbitrarily drawing the line in the sand where ever, demonizing the other person for being inhumane. How would socialized healthcare cover the person who just broke their leg but is to fat to pick up the phone. How would socialized healthcare cover the scitzo would is to paranoid to call for help. To cover those people you would have to put a doctor in every home.

  • The doctors would have to be covered to so you would have to have doctors in their home to. The end result is one big house with 300 million people in it sleeping under one blanket. But with 300 million people sleeping under one blanket you would have to change the blanket everytime someone got the sniffles. That is a big ass blanket to change every half second.

  • What does that have to do with socialized medicine? If you want the help, get off your ass and go get it.

  • My heart goes out to people who have health needs. But their health needs is not my responsibility nor any other Americans. The responsibility lies upon them and their own family. Whatever happen to members of families helping each other. Whatever happen to churches and charitable organizations helping those in need? The Obama's of the world happened. The rich who gave the most to charities to help people like this woman, but they got so burden with taxes, they can't afford to donate anymore.

  • But do these people deserve to be denied health insurance, that they would pay for themselves, because they have pre-existing conditions?

  • Yes, they do deseve to be denied for the same reason you will be denied homeowners insurance the day after your house burns down.

Clearly the first step of reform has to be to break the job/insurance link. Its amazing people who get insurance as a "benefit" of their job don't think they are paying for their health care and are not used to budgeting it.

Also pretty funny this woman has no idea how much her care costs. lol. Maybe this is part of the problem?

  • Actually, even if you have health insurance, you still have a co-payment...

  • Uh, yeah.

Insurance is like gambling. Insurance companies are gambling on your health, hoing you never get sick. That way, you're paying them for nothing.

Why would they gamble on something with a 0% chance of success?

  • Insurance policies have maximum lifetime benefit," or "benefit ceiling". Then there's a monthly premium and a deductible. Typically each policy has restrictions on how much they'll pay for specific illnesses and treatments. The gamble is not to have a large number of customers make claims all at once. Kind of like what happen after Katrina, which is what bankrupted some Insurance companies. Health insurance works the same way. They have more premiums coming in, then claims going out.

  • Yeah. If someone reads this and still expects a company to insure someone that HAS an expensive condition, there's no hope for them.

  • The point here is that if she has to go to the ER because her condition wasn't monitored, that pushes the costs over to the taxpayer and that makes it *worse* for everyone. The healthcare system is *broken*.

  • Shouldn't be driving uninsured.

While I think we should save them if possible, they WERE the ones driving without insurance. If they die it's nobodies fault but their own.

  • You're right, people shouldn't be driving uninsured. But Insurance on an automobile is *required* - insurance on a human being is not? This is what is broken about the current system.

  • Your heart goes out to people who have health needs, but not your wallet? America is one community and we should take care of each other. The worth of a country can be found in how it treats those worst off.

  • Uhhh ... many people with significant disabilities are unable to work, period, whether they want to or not. My sister Michelle is one of these people. I suggest you try to spend a day in her situation before making such presumptive comments.

  • if a motorist is uninsured, who pays when he gets into an accident? It's the same logic here. If there is no health maintenance plan, then the taxpayer pays when people with no insurance use the ER.

  • You're making a judgement call that this person has a negative societal contribution? She lost her job, just like millions of others in this economy. How can you make a judgement call based on a 2 min. video? The point is that her health simply needs to be monitored and maintained. W/o insurance, she has to resort to the ER, which pushes the costs to the rest of us. She is looking for an affordable & accessible insurance option, like what she had through her work.

  • I was speaking of illegal immigrants. I can understand law-abiding citizens who lost their jobs due to layoffs.

  • Apparently, Republicans do not believe in community, it is SOCIALISM. They believe in love for self.

  • Too bad I'm a liberal democratic, retard.

  • A liberal democrat with intolerant conservative/ Sarah Palin kind of values????

They are the ones who speak of a "real America" and believe govt is an enemy of the people. Interesting haaa!!

  • How does pointing out that we can't afford socialized healthcare make me intolerant? It's a fact, that those with positive societal contributions could NOT make up for those with negative ones. Hospital and pharmaceutical fees are just TOO expensive.

  • America can afford basic health care access for all her people, period. All that needs to be examined closely is the philosophical approach to health care, a shift from disease care to preventive health care. Then, most people will stay healthier longer than fall sick all the time as is the case now. Why can't you afford health care for all when you can afford Social Security and other social services?? That is the intolerance. Health care should be an inalienable right for all Americans.

  • I am talking about enacting just health laws 4 legal American residents. How did you confuse my statements to refer to illegal immigration??? That is a different legal issue altogether that requires immediate attention. Brace yourself and don't get your issues all mixed up and clouded in your little head. I can see how you easily get confused and fail to make rational choices. Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin .....you socialist democrat my foot LOL!!

  • You shouldn't attempt to insult anothers intelligence because you can't understand their argument. Socialized healthcare would spend millions on those who contribute nothing to society. The illegal immigrant was just an extreme example of this.

And when did I say that I was a socialist? I said I'm a liberal democrat. Stop being so narrow-minded.

  • People like yourself use the term "socialized" disparagingly as if the US is attempting something never done there before. You are spending billions on uninsured people currently because they walk into any ER freely and not pay for the services. You pay for those services and you know it. What is the difference?? You need an accountable system that's controlled and that's Universal health Care in one form or another.

  • Arguments that require assumptions are poor arguments. I never once stated that I believed socialism was a bad thing; postal service is socialized, garbage service is socialize; you'd have to be a moron to think that we are a purely capitalistic nation.

And I know that we end up paying for it anyway. Maybe instead of continuing that, set up a program that would allow THEM to pay it back?

Some cases are understandable but we shouldn't shell out a few million for lung surgery on a smoker.

  • The use of the term "socialized" is disparaging, particularly in the present US political climate. Universal Health Care is palatable. The solution to health care should start from a philosophical stance on access to health care. That is where you have a problem. Some think it is a right while others like you believe it is a priviledge. Emphasis should be on PREVENTION of illness. I don't understand why anyone would deal with health from a capitalist ideology and yet socialize garbage collection

  • More assumptions.

I never said that we shouldn't make a compromise. I merely stated that, from what I've seen, purely socialized medicine cannot work. Medical and pharmaceutical research costs are just TOO EXPENSIVE.

Secondly, I only call something a right when it's not at the cost of others. If you would rely on thousands of others taxes to pay your bill, it's a privilege.

  • Health would be a right if America allowed the POTUS political room to institute Universal Coverage 4 those who for some reason cannot afford the high cost of private insurance.I agree, pure socialized health care does not work, neither does private health care alone work. US great example. America needs a smart combination of both and that's healthy competition. The rich can enjoy the benefits of highly prized health care while the poor enjoy the protection of a Public system. We the people!

  • This is what I am arguing. We need both to have a place, just like our own government.

  • We can spend billions of dollars killing other people in other countries, but we can't find the money to heal the people in our own country? Our priorities are way too screwed up. Many of the 'costs' of healthcare are simply out of control. The healthcare system as it is now is broken and needs to be fixed. And having an easily accessible health care system is no more 'socialized' than having a police force or fire department available when you're in need. Thats a BS word.

  • wow! thats the best arguement i have heard! well said and thankyou!

  • Once again, some moron assumes I think socialism is a bad thing.

I don't support the war either; my priorities are completely fine. I just think that spending millions of tax-payer money on a law breaking immigrant is complete BS.

BTW, the cost of healthcare is only sightly too high; do you realize how much their training/utilities/pharmaceuticals cost?

  • Once again, illegal immigration and accessible health care for Americans are 2 separate issues. Illegal immigrants access health care because you have not addressed the loopholes in the present immigration laws. Tightening those immigration loopholes has nothing to do with fixing a broken health care system.

  • Once again, I was using them together to illustrate my point.

  • But you like the CIA, the FBI, Police dapartments, HOmeland Security, Foriegn affairs etc etc. Selfish capitalist!

  • The purpose of the Union as stated in the US Constitution preamble is to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty. All of which those departments of the Federal gov try to do. The Constitutional purpose of our Union is to promote the general welfare not provide it. The Unionshould encourage it's citizens to help themselves, rather than look for charity and a free ride.

  • Exactly. How do people help themselves if there are no jobs; when all the fat cats control government through powerful lobbysts?? How do you promote something that you do not make a provision for at federal government level. If you want to promote the welfare of people, the state enables an economic environment where free enterprise can develop and grow where people can be hired and health insurance provided for. Government is an instrument for the people by the people. Health care 4 all NOW!

  • When there are no jobs true Americans start businesses and make their own job. The economic success of the US was founded upon ingenuity and entrepreneurship. The true American Spirit is to take risks, find a way, and do it for yourself and nobody else. Early settlers risked their lives to cross inhospitable wilderness to make a better life for themselves. I encourage Americans take back control of their own destiny and prosperity and stop relying upon their employer and gov to do it for them.

  • To start a business you need the bank, the federal reserve and regulations, right?? Who does all that without the govt?? Early settlers looted and drove native Indians into reservations. That is called human exploitation. ENOUGH!!! Govt must protect ALL citizens and provide basic protective services for all people. All world peoples are entrepreneurs, nothing unique to TRUE Americans. Govts create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive and not chaos. Govt is necessary. Wall Street?

  • I wonder ... would you feel the same way if you were in that position? My sister Michelle has significant disabilities and is therefore unable to work. How can she support herself as she's unable to work? She receives a disability pension and is fully covered for all of her health care needs. Thankfully, that's because she lives here in Canada. If she lived in America, she'd be dead right now. So much for your health care system.

  • The real question is how much are you really worth? Are you worth $100,000, $50,000, $25,000 in medical expenses to keep you alive? Do you bring enough value, benefit, and contribute enough to society to make it worth the costs? If you are valuable, then those who love you and think your valuable will pay your medical expenses. I personally don't feel I'm worth anymore than $25,000. So if I get sick and it'll cost $100,000, I'm totaled. Because the cost to fix me is more than I'm worth.

  • The US Taxpayers shouldn't be forced to pay $100,000 in medical expenses for someone who brings only about $25,000 in benefit, value, and contribution to our society. Health payouts should be equal to the value a person brings to our society and nothing more.

  • All I can say is, thank God the doctors didn't consider my sister's monetary worth when they treated her, else she'd certainly be dead by now. It's pretty sad when we even consider putting any kind of monetary value on something as precious as a human life!!!! People with disabilities still contribute greatly to society, even if they're not able to work.

  • How exactly is human life precious? Humans pollute, rape, murder, bomb, start wars, terrorize, torture, destroy pristine natural landscapes. There are 6.5 billion human beings on this planet, human life is far from precious. A precious life is a Black Rhino which is on the verge of extinction due to illegal hunting. Human beings are far from being precious and valuable.

  • 744682532 Do you include yourself into the community of human beings who's life is not precious and valuable ?

  • I'm not a human being. I fell through a worm hole on my home planet Agenor and ended up here. I'm trapped here until I find another worm hole to fall through to hopefully get back there or some where else. Thankfully this is a life sustaining planet.

  • So no considering yourself one of them is the reason why you don't take human beïngs for precious and valuable. Great fantasy but even on the planet Agenor occur accidents such as happend with yourself. Untill you find your wormhole though better act as if you're human too. To tell you a secret all humans do that. Nature is precious yes because it's an invention of mankinds fantasies. Think about the relation between men to nature and then about nature to nature and you'll find out.

  • There are 6.5 billion human beings on planet, in my book having that many doesn't make them precious. Whats 1 or 2 million less people give or take. Why keep unhealthy people alive, so they can reproduce and pass on their inferior genetics.

  • if you were unhealthy, would you say that about yourself?

  • What will you do yourself having a mentally disabled child or a mom getting seriously sick ? Shoot them ? Your own child and mom ?

  • There is inherent value in every human life.

  • In your opinion.

  • Not just an opinion, not just a fact either, but it is the absolute truth.

  • Nope. No more than animals have inherent "value".

  • End of discussion.

  • When someone uses the ER as their primary care when they don't have health insurance, we're already paying the costs. This is whats wrong with the health care system and why we need some type of at least basic preventative and maintenance healthcare programs available, so that people don't end up in the ER foisting the costs of their procedures onto others.

  • THANK YOU for saying this.

Human life should be saved if possible but there comes a point where it is economically impossible.

  • Thank you Barack!!!!

  • *chants* OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA

  • BRAIN CHIP - CHECK MY SITE.

  • cmon congress pass the health care bill******

  • our "healthcare" system/matrix can only lead to faces of death....

  • Wow.

  • Had all of the years of GOP in power stupidifed us as AMERICANS??!! We're much better than this. Why should we be able 2 go see a doctor if we need 2? We're not some 3rd world country. The weaskest links will be our downfalls. Of course, it'll cost money but it's an investment in the health of this country. It called logic which many of us are lacking. I'm very sad how many of people had reactted on this topic. Grow up & get more brain b4 u type. We're Americans & we're bettter than this!

  • Your use of the term "3rd world country" is quite derogatory. We are ALL God's creatures made in His image. Poverty is not always our choice.

The guiding philosophy for most developing countries to me is a superior concept that says Health is an inalienable right for ALL people. Govt role is to make it accessible and affordable 4 ALL. That is the goal. Don't make the failure of health care in poor countries an excuse 4 rich countries not to come up with own FAIR health policies. Try harder.

  • When people say "3rd world" they aren't commenting on the people, they are commenting on the government. I believe that all people are equally important but the governments are the ones who use and abuse the poor and that is wrong!

  • come to germany. we got healthcare for everyone.
