Hey Slim! When playing Parana Pursuit, grab on to the vines that hang out throughout the course. They'll give you a lil' hang time, plus they'll help you jump over certain obstacles. Give it try sometime! I hope this helps you in some way!

When I was younger, I couldn't beat Tug-o'-war either. I also had trouble with Piranha's Pursuit, Mario Bandstand, and the last mini-game.  I didn't clear the last mini-game until I played Mario Party again last month and figured out how to do it.
