  • Hahahahhaaaaa we are all in training. We are going from gods to GODS. Enjoy the ride

    because there is always more!!!

  • De Lancie is incredibly bright and entertaining. Jian does a great interview, as always.

  • Q crashed two planes because his daughter died.

  • here here ye here ye~ q is the most powerful man in all of space. be careful to be nice to him or he will punish you!

  • only 9 from 178, but he characterized this series

  • 25ZtFvC4qUs Now he's on "My Little Pony".

  • can people start setting the volume on their videos at a level that doesn't require me to set my own volume higher than it needs to be?

  • This man is a god.

    Literally.

  • Both John de Lancie and Robert Picardo are awesome...

  • @americanjedi77 Fuck you Rick Berman!

  • @americanjedi77 Maybe Q can make an appearance in the new Trek films.

  • @americanjedi77 Star Trek: Q vs the Borg?

  • @rlee0001

That would last all of 1 second. It would be no challenge.

  • @Draknfyre

He would wipe them out of existence before you could say "resistance is futile"!

  • Nemesis would have ended so much better with Data (now human) and "Q" walking away whistling the tinman's theme song.

  • @americanjedi77 Start the series with with Q, end the series with Q... seems fitting

  • What is it thay're actually talking about, an orchestral soundtrack or something?

  • @americanjedi77 If I could give you multiple thumbs up, I would. I have always thought that.

  • @americanjedi77

    Make the movie NOW!

  • I really think Q was the savior of both Next Generation and Voyager. This guy introduced humor, where the captains in both shows were very dry. Q saved the shows for me.

  • @Alai912 why thank you young mortal.

  • Dude looks like he just woke up and had a beer. Loooool

  • @americanjedi77 You have raised the multimillion dollar question. Bravo for raising it!

  • Is it me, or does DeLancie actually look sort of like Tom Hanks in Star Trek?

  • WHAT?! 9 episodes???

Mr. de Lancie, you are definitely WRONG. You've appeared as Q on 12 different episodes!

8 on TNG, 1 on DS9, and 3 on Voyager.

and if you consider "All Good Things" had 2 parts, that number increases to 13.

  • wow talk about licking ass.

  • what an intro

  • @americanjedi77

I have thought the same thing.

  • All I know is if Leonard Nimoy could appear as Ambassador Spock in Abrams' rehash of Star Trek, John de Lancie as Q, the omnipotent and ever present, sure as shit could. If Q met young Kirk we'd potentially see Kirk vs. Borg. We'd get all sorts of jokes comparing Kirk to Picard from the original timeline. Q would perhaps be unaffected by the changes. He's Q!

  • @rhatcher010

Even though he is not supposed to age, they could explain his older appearance by the fact that he can take whatever form he wants.

  • What the heel that giy spends like minute at the beginning of that interview going on and on about john delancy...at the end to just put hm down at the end by saying it was only 9 episodes hahaha

  • He's really multi - faceted. I never thought of him as anything but a very good actor. I met him once, all - too - briefly.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 I would kill to meet him!!!! You are so lucky!!!

  • @americanjedi77

    The answer is this... Republicans.

  • @mahdogzbite lol, howd this get political?

  • Damn, that host is very good.

  • @americanjedi77

Because the TNG movies weren't supposed to have a plot. They were just to be stupid action movie cliches to make money.

  • Oops. Wrong video. Q Who?

  • A class act.

  • What a voice!

  • @americanjedi77 That would have been epic and fun... It would have had a broad market appeal too...

  • There will be a 'Q' movie, but it will not be called "Star Trek" anything ... it will be called simply "Q"

  • i love de lancie.. he's such a great entertainer

  • ohhhh my god his voice

  • they should make a sequel to the new star trek movie and about 3/4ths of the way through Q should just show up.

  • @americanjedi77 I concur.

  • delancie has mastered the acting of Q in a omnipotent being as spock has a half vulcan-human and spiner has in portraying data.

q is by far my fav st character and to me the ongoing question in science you really believe to know everything, wait what is arround the corner. Thus as ST is meant to be (in my eyes)

  • I hate how the federation buddys in ST reacted all the time. They always act exactly like what Q told them they actually are. Inside scared, insecure people who are angry to the outside as soon some mirror is shown them, who actually can do what they all desire to be able to do sooo deeply, in all their dreams they want to be a Q and already in the 24th century they could never could say "right, what you say is right, teach me how I can achieve this", but always got pissed? Like teenagers or so.

  • @io1011001 They didn't like his condescending attitude, I suppose.

  • @sierra1575 But that is actually same as the others were, I think the point by the makers was, that there is someone who is better, same, even more human then the humans in ST, with more heart, principles, more humor, and Picard represented the guy who has achieved his goals and now does not like to hear about someone else no more, unless he can lick ass, like on his former tutor who gave him this archeological gift, but where Q could answer all his question about the universe with one "snip":)

  • @io1011001 Maybe; I think a lot of their uncomfortableness with Q came from a sense of not having control. Normally, even if getting their asses handed to them by the Borg, there's still a sense that it's a contestable (if lopsided) fight, that they're competing with someone who has risk in the game, etc. With Q, he's just "some guy" who decides to drop in and sorta do whatever he wants. Obviously they don't like him treading on their turf.

  • @io1011001 If this were real life though, it would obviously make sense to be a little more humble and try to converse with Q to help understanding. I can see them not wanting to have him solve all their problems out of the blue, but conversation wouldn't hurt.

  • @sierra1575 Good point. They have been nothing but disrespectful to the person who is essentially a God. He turns up in this episode willing to help them glimpse into their future. Forewarned is forearmed. But Picard says "Nah, fuck off Q." Not smart. Yet he has no problem having a seemingly immortal bartender with a very dodgy past and the capacity to frighten the Q continuum schlepping drinks in Ten Forward.

  • @Nautilus1972 Yeah. My impression of Q is that he's a member of a civilization that has become totally static, but for whatever reason, he possesses the ability to at least create the illusion of being able to manipulate time and space. Most Q episodes have a theme of theater. He seems to enjoy creating real-life thought experiments as an avenue for getting a reaction out of members of a species that is still dynamic and unpredictable.

  • @Nautilus1972 Keep in mind the first time they encounter Q is episode 1, and he basically threatens humanity with a trial and takes control of fate in a funny court scene. Oh and he froze a redshirt too

  • Oh man, that voice.

  • Yes, Q would have been a great plot centre for a movie and diubtless it would have been better than nem finished it off! Voyager was good, DS9 was OK, but a little stationary, TNG was what made me a fan of trek and Q was one of the best bits. Even the episode names were for him! Shame Brannon and Rick messed up so bad later

  • for the first one minute and nineteen seconds of the video, all i can think is "shut the hell up and let the guy talk"

  • @americanjedi77 Blame Brannon Braga. He's already at fault for Enterprise and so much else

  • @americanjedi77 YES. Change that "why did they never" AmericanJedi! Damn it, it can still happen! De Lancie's alive - Stewart's alive. Everything else is details lol Hell, it could just be Q going through time and bugging the hell out of everyone from Star Trek who's still alive/available, and then saving the day in a roundabout way

  • @bicarbonat Star Trek is full of plot holes as it is. One more wouldn't hurt XD

  • This is the second time I've watched this interview and I'm still surprised that De Lancie only did nine episodes of Trek. Through Next Gen to Voyager. Seemed it was a lot more. Haha.. Thanks for posting.

  • the host is a jackass

  • @tmudd24 he is not a jackass, He is very smart, well read and if you dont get him that doesnt make him one.

  • @americanjedi77 There is a very amazing book writted by De Lancie from Q's first person point of view about the end of the universe... It would have made a brilliant film

  • @ThatBritishVlogger What's it called?

  • @FoilFaerie it's called 'I, Q'

  • @ThatBritishVlogger Thanks! I'll have to look it up.

  • @ThatBritishVlogger OOooh Sources!! Links! Send me a message!

Trust me, i know Q, i have the total special Box set of Q. He's a brilliant species!

  • is that the longest introduction in history? GET ON WITH IT!

  • @Rumpio lol ikr? He's got deep-sea-diver lung capacity, apparently~

  • They never made a movie with Q because the crew resolved their drama with him in the final episode.

  • It may have been only nine, but a very memorable nine they were....

  • Jesus Christ a minute and twenty second introduction?! I love Mr. de Lancie to bits, but I thought we'd never get to the interview!

  • A new star trek movie with Q as a central character would kick ass, as stated by many below me.

  • If JJ Abrams was smart, he would be working on the next Star Trek movie to include Q. That would be a BLAST!

  • I would have loved to see more od Q on Deep Space 9.

  • Q is the best thing to ever happen to Star Trek.

And that "usually immortal" line reminds me of Deja Q which was the best episode EVER!!!

  • Darn Mcdonald's commercials! I'm not gonna eat that sh**, are you? < should be their pick up line

  • 9 Episodes and he's the most memorable character!!! outrageous. Talented guy.

  • De Lancie is awesome. For some reason, even if I see him outside the context of Star Trek, I feel as though he's still omnipotent, and that he'll do something crazy. His role on ST has had that profound an impact. When I met him, I asked him "Did you have to learn about everything in the universe after you got the role of playing a Q?" and he laughed and very wittingly replied "No. I had learn all that before getting hired to play the role of a Q". Brilliant.

  • He was on 8 episodes of ST:TNG, not 9

  • @americanjedi77

i agree, a Q movie would have been huge, rick berman was stupid for not doing one, paramount pictures missed a lot of dollars there. No wonder Star Trek was on it's last legs a few years ago. John De Lancie and Q rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wondered that for years...so frustrating...after the Borg, my fave villian...great actor...particularly, the interactions with Picard--the facial exprssions and emotions. He deserved a lot more than 9 episodes!

  • @kajehart agreed. I like Q better than the borg cuz all the borg say is "you will be assimilated" and "irrelevant" and "resistance is futile" (boring after awhile); but with Q there is so much dialogue, esp. as you say - with Picard, and Q's facial expressions lol are so funny. Definitely my favourite villain character lol. I also like how theatrical he is esp. at the end of Deja Q. He's so flamboyant in his celebrations :D ROFL hahaha!!!

  • @TheScifiFanForever and its so funny when hes "spying" on someone you just see his head sticking out from the ceiling or something hahaha :D

  • @kajehart You know what they say: A Joke is only funny once. He was really best as a surprise character. It made him MUCH more memorable.

Depreciating Marginal Utility. The fact that he Wasn't in a movie is still, however, somewhat sad :(

  • @R1ckr011 sadly, I agree

  • @isthsspsd2meansumthn Woohoo Flame War extinguished!

Also: in the interim, i watched a game played out which featured Q heavily. It was a really interesting game/interactive movie. But it displayed absolutely my point that too much of Q can be a bad thing. i loved it because it was a bad thing, much as people love "Repo! The Genetic Opera"

A movie based around Q would have been a fatal error. But a movie that had him in it: gold.

Fine line between insanity and genius people

  • "You're a scene stealer...

Well I've been called that but not in as nice words"

  • Wow, I almost started to wonder if list of accomplishments were going to take up the entire video.

  • I read planet X and the Uncanney X-men joined Picard on the Entrprise-D (maybe the E, I'm not sure) Also they mentioned that it happened in reverse previously.

  • Comment removed

  • There was a book by the title "Planet X" where the X-Men crossed over into the Star Trek Universe to help them with a planet of people dealing with a mutant uprising. I thought it was a good book. Probably one of the stranger crossovers to make it into the main stream.

  • q was the best thing to be added to star trek since the begining

  • @PHARRAOH I agree.

  • Despite what this program has to offer, I'd like to suggest radio's not dead yet.

  • OH my god... i saw John de Lancie in subway today XD his hair looks JUST liike that. haha.

  • I thought there were 12 Q episodes?

  • what a nice man!!

  • 9 eps.-number 9, number 9, number 9....

  • Comment removed

  • You're the one shooting yourself in the foot.

  • @noparadigm

I think Q would be able to, he would just choose not to lift it.

  • isn't this the program that hosted billy bob thornton when billy bob was acting like a jackass? he was all like, "why would you ask me that?" and the host was like, "uh, well because it's an interview" haha

  • @VirtualBilly lol Yes this is the guy

  • I <3 Q !

  • I can't help thinking the studio was built for "Q".

  • 1 minute 20 seconds. the longest introduction ever. wow, all they missed what the names of his kindergarten teacher

  • excellent actor.. he should be the theme of the next movie

  • @dunngar Good idea, actually. He could span different generations of Star Treks, bringing it all together.

  • great actor, i cannot think of anyone

    performing Q better

  • 6:17 he is a scene stealer we love Q!

  • I'd like to hang out with Q he is awesome and would make a cool buddy.

  • Q fucking rocks he should have been in the new movie like bam fucking with kirk would have been tight!

  • I really hope Paramount gets it through their thick ass heads that there are a lot of people that would like de Lancie to be in a Trek film before he gets too old.

  • WOW! brilliant idea :)

would also like to see Data in a movie... my most fav star trek characters ever in order are:

    1) Data

    2) spock

    3) Q

    4) Picard

    kirk can suck muh ballz

  • Data Died In The Last Move, Sorry.

But It Was The Best Movie Of The TNG Series.

  • They can use B-4 as an excuse to re-introduce, if not Data, then another of Soong's androids.

  • @QAeternus

They did in the latest movie's prequel book.

  • They did in the lead up to the new movie. Currently Data is the Captain of the Enterprise-E in the timeline leading up the destruction of Romulus.

  • We have time for his foolish games

  • As an FYI to all you "Days of Our Lives" fans, Mr. De Lancie was on there about twenty-odd years back.

Is it just me, or does he look a little like Tom Hanks?

  • Holy crap, he does...he really does.

  • John de Lancie was in Toronto! Man I'm so mad at myself for missing that! Q in Q studio. I can't help but feel the studio was built for him.

  • I had absolutely no idea John de Lancie was so accomplished!

  • i subscribed to qtv!

  • John De Lancie ROCKS!!!

  • This man was so memorable as Q.

I want more, damnit!!! He is omnipotent, so they had better put him in the new Star Trek films! There is no excuse to not use Q again.

  • i agree

  • yey so i just ordered the Q fan collection a few minutes ago :D

Which almost appears silly to me since i would not consider myself a big StarTrek fan, however after watching 4 episodes with him i certainly turned into a Q fan. Now i can't wait to see those episodes with him i do not knoe yet.

  • Mon-Capitan !! Remmember the end of one TNG where he appears with a Mexican band on the bridge, puts a cigar in Picards mouth and gives Data the gift of laughter? I loved his character and how he played it. It would not have worked with anyone else. Maybe they built "Q" around de Lancie's personality ?

  • They should've made a next generation movie with Q at the center of the plot.

  • The final episode of TNG was a movie script at one point. They changed it and made the generations movie instead. I always thought Q was going to get Voyager back to the alpha quadrant. I still find it odd that borg technology got them back.

  • I second that. I always wondered why they didn't have a Trek movie with a "Q plot". It seemed like such a no-brainer and would have made for a great franchise-worthy movie.

  • Well they can use him in the sequel to the new Star Trek movie.

  • ShermerIllinois, that is an excellent point. If I had to guess, it's because the studio probably thought big battles with lots of action versus say, The Borg, would draw more money and more casual fans than a battle of the minds between Q and Picard. Maybe you could have had Q AND The Borg, but too much can also be confusing to the casual fan (think Batman Forever). It's all about drawing money. But I agree 1000% a Q movie would have been of better quality. John is an excellent actor.

  • From what I remember hearing, they originally wanted Q to appear in 'First Contact' but it never came to be sadly.

I do find myself wondering what it would have been like if Q were in TOS?

  • Well, there actually was a Q on TOS. In The Squire of Gothos, a baby Q named Trelane tortures the enterprise.

  • It was never mentioned officially in that episode but I bet that's where they got the inspiration for Q. Honestly it wouldn't be out of line in my opinion if Trelane is found out to have been a Q.

  • Well, back in the TOS series.. it was never really known whether or not that Trelane was or was not a offshoot of the 24th Century entity called 'Q.' But he had similar powers of the 'Q' and he was almost as ruthless in 'thoughtful sort of way' as Q was.. and was punished for being the 'bad boy' as Q was.. so much of the story line pretty much almost mimics the pattern of the 'Q' as he tormented Kirk while Q tormented Picard.

  • It would not fit the universe for Trelane to have been a Q. However, there are many omnipotent and powerful beings in Star Trek, some more powerful than even Q.

  • How can you exceed the power of omnipotence? It's impossible by definition.

  • Q can do anything he wants, until one of the more powerful beings, including God, says otherwise. This is limited omnipotence. Not really any better way to describe it. John wrote the book, not me. Ask him.

  • the definition is non-sensical. how can you ask how you can exceed the power of omnipotence?

  • There is no one more powerful than Q in Star Trek. many beings exist true, but only Q are immortal and powerful. Seen episode where Picard died. They can control creation and death.

  • They cannot control everything and there are several beings more powerful than Q. Ask John himself, he wrote the books.

  • wrong. There is someone more powerful. The one who created the Q. You should read the books too, it fills in the blanks.

  • WHICH BOOKS?

  • well, Q and A by...i forgot the name.....for one. It was very good, and it explains a lot. ^..^

  • How can an omnipotent being be more powerful than an omnipotent being? That's like infinity being bigger than infinity.

  • well in "Death Wish", the suicidal Q admitted to Tuvok that the Q were in fact not omnipotent, and that Q's claiming to be was just arrogance.

  • It might be interesting if the beings who corrupted Charlie Evans from season 1's "Charlie X" episode of TOS were the Q.

  • okay it's offical you are a top notch fan!!!

  • You're right. William Campbell

(born 1926) was truly the first Q.

  • they kinda did this with most caracter the vulcans grew from nimoy belief in jewish religion and the emh is based robert picardo personality

  • he has a monster voice.

  • yeah, I know. Forgot that one :)

  • by the way, the man is getting old. He was actually in 11 episodes. 8 on The Next Generation and 3 on Voyager.

  • You're forgetting the appearance on Deep Space Nine which brings the total to 12.

  • Probably the most underrated actor evér. He should have won an oscar 1000000 of years ago. I miss him in Star Trek :(

  • I wish Q was one of the main charecters. He is my favorite

  • Humble pie. I dont know about that. Eating the humble pie? How so?

  • "Q" eating humble pie...maybe he should be the King of Spain!
