Crazy! Breeds are NOT dangerous- individual dogs can pose a danger; often through no fault of their own. In the UK we have "Pit Bull Type" legislation, a total mess, leading to amazing confusion over what a Pit Bull is anyway! Those promoting such tosh need to look at the man/dog relationship over centuries. They could visit some of the war dog sites to see how thousands of lives have been saved over years, compared to relatively few nasty incidents usualy down to humans stupidity.

People always judge dogs based only on what breed(s) they are and they don't ever think that one dog will be different from any other. According to that logic, all golden retrievers love kids, all yorkies never shut up, and all pitbulls want to eat your face. People always think my dog's vicious when they see him, they never think that a DoberPit could ever be anything other than a monster. It's sick.

Irresponsible breeding can indeed have a bad effect on a dog's temper, but not because pitts have "bad genes". "Bad" dogs come from breeders who didn't care about breeding to behavioral and conformational standards, which can result in dogs with malicious tempers *and* health problems. But again, this is not the norm for most dogs. Pitt's are family dogs, through and through.

the people who continue to promote pit bulls and dog fighting also continue to twist the facts.. often claiming it's 'the owners' who teach them to attack and even kill. they continue to claim pit bulls are several different breeds - they are not, but there are pit bull MIXES. these dogs have a pit bull parent and another parent from a different breed..these pit bull mixes can be dangerous if they have strong genes from their pit bull parent. get your facts straight.

i know it was 4 months ago you wrote the comment but, Are you saying 'pit bulls'should be banned?

And you say pitbull is not lots of breeds but actually pitbull is a type which includes 3 breeds, American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier and American staffordshire terrier.

And i have a staffordshire bull terrier that is better behaved than our lab and collie. she loves people and dogs. her mum was pts because of her breed, and im against it 100%.

im a responsible owner...

its not that the owners teach them to attack and kill though that is sometimes the case (see the video of the animal control officer attacked by a pit) its that they leave them in their back yard chained up often without food and no socialization or exercise

their animals dude u leave them like that they get aggressive theres a reason only in in 204,000 pits kill

and statistically yes u r more likely to be killed climbing into the bath tub struck by lightening and

There's the american pit bull terrier(UKC), American

Staffordshire Terrier (AKC), and the Staffordshire

Bull Terrier (AKC) who are often grouped as pits. If you look into any reputable kennel, you'll find there is no 'pit bull.' Outside of that group though, there are many purebreeds often mistaken for one of the three, just take the 'find the pit quiz.'

Then of course there's the American Bully, not a breed and often mixed with mastiffs but the media calls them pit bulls too.

Yes...BAN Bathtubs, the lady in Houston who drowned her 5 kids in the bathtub, if she had shot them instead people would say ban handguns...so I say lets ban bathtubs next!

Pit Bulls are the very best pets EVER!!!! You can teach any dog to be mean and bite.

Google - CDC DOG ATTACKS ...and you will learn about all the deaths caused by dogs - pit bulls are on the top of the list. pit bulls have caused more DEATHS of humans than any other breed. When do you hear about Labs or Golden Retrievers killing people? It's a rarity. Pit Bulls are naturally aggressive. People need to stop breeding them. I love animals, I don't want to see them killed. But I would not want to be around pit bulls, tigers, lions, etc

Wrong. Any animal can be capable of biting. Pits can be naturally aggressive and it's people who teach them and encourage them to be aggressive are the ones who should be punished.

Pits are great dogs and really most people don't even know what a Pit looks like there are many breeds that get labeled a pit when they aren't. But it gets put in the books as a pit. To put Pitties in the same category as a Lion or a tiger is ridiculous. Pits are amazing dogs and great family pets.

I'd also like to point out that most statistics are old and some state that in the past decade 26 people have been killed by dogs. 26 people. pretty small number when you consider how many people have dogs... and those weren't all "pit bulls" Just saying.

You'll also notice that the CDC lists them as "pit bull-type" dogs without really saying what is included in that group. It could include anywhere from 3-20 (possibly more) breeds. Also, the CDC also states that BSL is ineffective and raises concerns about the violation of constitutional rights. Next time you site something, read it all the way through.

did you know CDC is right with BSL and supports the negative and false claims on pit bulls, do you know how many dog attack reports have been turned down by the news because a pit bull wasnt the one attacking?

Well it's not a rarity, it's just that the media isn't loud about it.

August 21 2007- woman attacked by her two pits, has severe injuries but lives. It's covered in over 230 news articles, and broadcasted on major news networks like CNN, MSNBC and FOX

August 18, 2007- A lab mix attacked a 70 year old man and sent him to the hospital in critical condition and officers shot the dog when it charged them. This incident was reported in one article and only in the local paper.
