  • Haha. I love when you were putting the bacon in the pan, and then youre like "ok.. Ill use it all" and then when you were getting yourself some soup, youre like "it look good.. okay maybe a lil more" and then when you were putting the bacon on top, you put a lil on, continued on with your business, and then randomly youre like "what ya'll dont think I put enough bacon?... alright Ill put some more bacon." HAHAHA. I like the comedy while youre cooking. Cant wait to try your recipe :)

  • Wow this looks fantastic. I'm going to try heavy cream instead of milk, I'm sure it would add some richness. Plus, it would help to thicken a little, not to mention add a few calories.... oh well. I'll definitely try it!

  • Hi. Dave can you or anyone else reading this please tell me what is the difference between green onions and chives? I actually had an argument with a friend of mine over this not too long ago. I told her that they were definitely not the same thing..that one was an herb and the other was a vegetable. Am I right? LOL.     Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) are the smallest species of the onion family Alliaceae, native to Europe, Asia and North America. They are referred to only in the plural, because they grow in clumps rather than as individual plants. Allium schoenoprasum is also the only species of Allium native to both the New and the Old World.

    Chives are herbs. The have no bulb like onions.

Thanks Dave now I can go back and brag to my friend about how smart I am. : P This soup is kinda similar to one I make.. Rafferty's Restaurant potato soup recipe. My mama makes a potato soup that is just potatoes,milk, butter,flour, S & P, and I tell you what, it may not be fancy, but its good.Put a hunk of cornbread in there and you got what my grampa would call "larapin good". : )

  • Hey,I'm a noob at cooking, but I have a couple of questions. Does it matter what kind of potatoes you use? For instance, sweet potatoes are healthier than white potatoes so I try to use those more. And then it isn't nessessary to use that much bacon, or bacon at all is it? Finally, can I opt to use less cheese/different types (such as swiss)? I say all of this because I run cross-country, and try to keep myself healthy, lol. I try to avoid unhealthy/less healthy stuff whenever possible.

  • Like I always say You dont want to eat what I cook EVERYDAY. LOL But you can treat yourself once in a while. You do not have to use the bacon. You can use sweet potatoes but that would change the dish. I would like to try it though? You can use whatever cheese you like! Be sure to use real chicken broth. Careful you dont cook the sweet potatoes too much as they will fall apart and become mush?

  • Man, I hope that's Iowa Bacon! I'd never have thought to leave the bacon grease. It must add a LOT of flavor to the soup. I always use cream when I make this. Not really sure this soup has a name, but here in Iowa we make it almost the same way. It's great in the cold Winter's we have here. The trick of the dish the the doneness of the potatoes. Peas go well with this too.

  • Hey Amberlene, Sorry I didnt show it here. I show it in other videos. I use Chicken Base. It is chicken broth in a jar. You add it to some water and it is wonderful. It is called Better Than Boulion!

  • Ok Dave, here is what I did. I made this last night and I ended up cutting up the bacon into pieces, frying it and leaving half of it IN the soup. However I used a whole package of thick cut bacon. LOVE that bacon! hehehe. It turned out great, soooo yummy! Thanx for the recipe Dave!

    PS- I use 'Yukon Gold' potatoes, instead of Russet in my soups. The yellow potatoes hold up much better in a soup I think, and have a creamier texture. :)
