I made this today (Thanksgiving Day!) It was PERFECT!!!!!!!!! It put my husband right to sleep...lol Thanks so much Dave, and I love your personality!!
My husband and i just made this soup. thnxz a bunch Dave. Best Midnight snack we've ever had!! ;) It was worth it, even if we have to go run two extra miles 2morrow, just to burn off the calories.
Great Vidoes! I even liked the one your son did just interesting for some reason and i dont like grits i dont think LOL. But I am a northerner we dont see much grits up here. Anyhow, we are doing the loaded potato soup TODAY! I found it last night coudlnt sleep thinking about it. So today its a GO UMMMMMMM! I can't wait.
Haha. I love when you were putting the bacon in the pan, and then youre like "ok.. Ill use it all" and then when you were getting yourself some soup, youre like "it look good.. okay maybe a lil more" and then when you were putting the bacon on top, you put a lil on, continued on with your business, and then randomly youre like "what ya'll dont think I put enough bacon?... alright Ill put some more bacon." HAHAHA. I like the comedy while youre cooking. Cant wait to try your recipe :)
Wow this looks fantastic. I'm going to try heavy cream instead of milk, I'm sure it would add some richness. Plus, it would help to thicken a little, not to mention add a few calories.... oh well. I'll definitely try it!
DAVE...Just tried the Potato soup and it is deeelisious. Had to mash the taters up cause I dont like em in chuncks....turned out gooood.thickened up da soup real nice. I like what I see on your videos. Canada says you r de best.
Hi Dave, I've been watching a lot of your videos and I just want to say I really like your style. You're a good, genuine, down to earth bloke and your personality alone is reason enough to watch these. You keep a good pace and explain the process well, I've learned a lot from your recipes and hope you keep it up =)
holy shyt...that looks so good! when he added the cheeses, my mouth was watering, probably tell mom to make it,too lazy to make it myself, lol thx for the video!
Hi. Dave can you or anyone else reading this please tell me what is the difference between green onions and chives? I actually had an argument with a friend of mine over this not too long ago. I told her that they were definitely not the same thing..that one was an herb and the other was a vegetable. Am I right? LOL. Oh yeah..I saw you responded to a couple other of my comments I left on your other videos. You called me Jacob. Actually I'm Jacob's mom and my name is Sherry : ) Thanks!
Hey Sherry, You need to create your own account so poeple dont call you Jacob? LOL
Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) are the smallest species of the onion family Alliaceae, native to Europe, Asia and North America. They are referred to only in the plural, because they grow in clumps rather than as individual plants. Allium schoenoprasum is also the only species of Allium native to both the New and the Old World.
Haha. Well I do have one its Bluekygurl, but I just never login to the daggone thing. LOL. Awesome so I WAS right! Thanks Dave now I can go back and brag to my friend about how smart I am. : P This soup is kinda similar to one I make.. Rafferty's Restaurant potato soup recipe. My mama makes a potato soup that is just potatoes, milk, butter, flour, S & P, and I tell you what, it may not be fancy, but its good.Put a hunk of cornbread in there and you got what my grampa would call "larapin good". : )
Hey,I'm a noob at cooking, but I have a couple of questions. Does it matter what kind of potatoes you use? For instance, sweet potatoes are healthier than white potatoes so I try to use those more. And then it isn't nessessary to use that much bacon, or bacon at all is it? Finally, can I opt to use less cheese/different types (such as swiss)? I say all of this because I run cross-country, and try to keep myself healthy, lol. I try to avoid unhealthy/less healthy stuff whenever possible.
Like I always say You dont want to eat what I cook EVERYDAY. LOL But you can treat yourself once in a while. You do not have to use the bacon. You can use sweet potatoes but that would change the dish. I would like to try it though? You can use whatever cheese you like! Be sure to use real chicken broth. Careful you dont cook the sweet potatoes too much as they will fall apart and become mush?
Hi Dave, I just found your videos the other day and I must say they are sooo much fun to watch!!!I tried this soup yesterday and it was awesome!!!! Thank you for the recipe and keep on cooking!!!!!!!
Wow dave I cant stop watching your videos because everytime you make something I end up so hungry and I always want to find out more delicious foods you make :)
WOW!! I'm happy that I found your UTube Ch. I have learned a lot! - I going to make your Loaded Potato Soup tonight and your Chicken and Dumplins next weekend! I will be comming back for more! (THANKS!!!)
Man, I hope that's Iowa Bacon! I'd never have thought to leave the bacon grease. It must add a LOT of flavor to the soup. I always use cream when I make this. Not really sure this soup has a name, but here in Iowa we make it almost the same way. It's great in the cold Winter's we have here. The trick of the dish the the doneness of the potatoes. Hey Amberlene, Sorry I didnt show it here. I show it in other videos. I use Chicken Base. It is chicken broth in a jar. You add it to some water and it is wonderful. It is called Better Than Boulion!
This soup looks ridiculously delicious. Dave can you tell us about the history of the recipes or how you thought of it, etc.? I don't know if you can fit it in but it always makes the recipe more interesting.
Hey Dave, I made the soup today! The only change I made is that I cut the potatoes up a little smaller...just my personal preference! It was DELICIOUS!!! I had unexpected company and served it up to them with some french bread - it was a hit. Thanks!

i didnt want to comment until i tried it, oh wow it was GREAT but we didnt have celery in Japan so i used celery ceeds and that worked just as good. Thanks!!! Thats great soup, i didnt have real parmesean cheese either, i used the powdered kind! yummmmmmmy!
hey dave, when you say that I am the "World's Greatest Chef. cause it says so on my apren" is that something that just came out when you where tapeing or did you think about saying that 1st eather way I think you have something with that marketing brother has a good ring to it like on a tshirt mayb
HEHE Jamie! I just thought it was funny when my wife bought the apron 22 years ago. I always say that when I put on the apron so I carried it into my vids! Thanks Man!
Ok Dave, here is what I did. I made this last night and I ended up cutting up the bacon into pieces, frying it and leaving half of it IN the soup. However I used a whole package of thick cut bacon. LOVE that bacon! hehehe. It turned out great, soooo yummy! Thanx for the recipe Dave!
-Kelly
PS- I use 'Yukon Gold' potatoes, instead of Russet in my soups. The yellow potatoes hold up much better in a soup I think, and have a creamier texture. :)
Thanks Dave-another great recipe! What I like about this one is the simplicity of the ingredients. You kept it basic and hearty. That's the way my grandmother used to cook things. Except she used vinegar in everything. Anyway thanks for the video Dave!
I don't know much about making soup but that looks pretty filling. I can see that working out well during the bitter scottish winter. Keep up the great vids.
oh yes, this is definatly on my next "dave's list" of things to cook,..i couldnt help but think if adding some shrimp might be good also, but i guess like you always say.."if you like it put it in there" haha...thanks dave!!!
its coming into winter here in Australia so a good hearty soup is comfort food for us thanx Dave this is the type of food you can curl up with in front of the fire on a cold day
Man that looks good buddy. I know what I'm having for supper tomorrow! Can you do a chicken stew for us next Dave? I miss eating chicken stew my friend.
Again????????? You totally had my attention!!! I am making this tomorrow and will let you know how wonderful it turns out! I can't wait! You're the greatest chef in the land!
Lookin damn good, especially with all the bacon!! I was gonna suggest chives too but then put em in at the end! You've obviously thought of everything =)

Hey Kelly! Sounds great! I will try the yellow potatoes next time!
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks Dave-another great recipe! What I like about this one is the simplicity of the ingredients. You kept it basic and hearty. That's the way my grandmother used to cook things. Except she used vinegar in everything. Anyway thanks for the video Dave!

I don't know much about making soup but that looks pretty filling. I can see that working out well during the bitter scottish winter. Keep up the great vids.

Looks good, I might replace the milk with cream for a richer texture though.
AgentCross420 3 years ago
Thanks Collin! Cream makes it just a little rich. Too rich makes it too filling too faast! But I like the cream too!
