A wonderfully thought-provoking poem, James. I believe the spirit of Socrates is still alive in some of us today, in those who question authority, and challenge our preconcieved notions.
How wonderfully you poem spanned all those centuries, temporally, and physically across the whole globe. The woes of one generation are clearly re-experienced by the succeeding one. I wonder if there will ever be a time when we shall actually learn something from our past so as not to repeat the same mistakes. A thought provoking piece. perhaps the answer lies with increased connections, just, as you say, water connects us all. great piece

I like the wide thought-vistas of this poem and its many connecting routes. Individual images are great too, like 'when I abandon these bones
that hold on to me' - quite a thought that, our bones holding us tight, like captives!
