sounds like using you for rid. Every1 has probs and I think addictions quite common, sum drugs have overly bad stigma, guess could consider it like if she was alcoholic. I believe if she had drink prob then it part of her private life and you shouldn't get involved. But it becomes ur prob when she keep usin you for her own personal gain, insight of situation I personally would make it clear that not a taxi servic then if she persists when you make it clear to stop then tel lanlord bout situation

As far as your dilemma, I think i would need a little more proof before telling the landlord. I would give it a bit more time. See what more you find out about them.

Well I ended up telling the landlord simply because I found out she had gone to a bunch of the neighbour's as well. He said that if she came around again to tell her to call a taxi or for me to call 911 if it was a real emergency. She did come around again on the following Saturday and I told her that she wasn't going to be getting any more rides. I felt kind of bad but I would hate to be an enabler if there is something further going on.

So you are being used and thats not right for anyone to do to another person. Mabe ask the landlord if they have family they can rely on. There are also public services and churches who will help!

Go online and google Human Service Center or health dept for your area! Or Call your local hospital and ask for help for the old ladies!

Youve done your part now you can let the helpers take over! Thats why they get the big bux! ;D

I just started a new job. Im an ERS Tech. Emergency Response Service! There is one in every county!!! Give her the number! And tell them nicely that if there is a problem thet they should call that number!

Im also a diabetic and if she needed insulin she would need it right then and would need to call an ambulance if she were out!

I had a similar situation a while ago, where I was being asked fgr help/favours while being fed ever changing stories about why and when, etc. The difference was that I'd known them for some time, so I confronted them and asked them direct about what was going on. I told them that if they were not going to be straight with me I could not help them. Trust has to work both ways.

It may be that these ladies just have a hard time dealing with reality. Lay it on the line and see what happens.

I never buy into rumors. That is the same as assuming something and we all know where that leads.

If this is their behavior, regardless of their age, I don't think they will last long at your building. Nobody likes a mooch which seems to be more what they are like. They will wear out there welcome in no time. I'd just avoid them or sit down with them and find out the real story. Maybe it is innocent and they can be reasoned with.

I think you did good for her my friend. But I wouldn't let them run your car in the ground. I don't know if I would tell the land lord. But I think I would just keep away from the situation. Right now as it stands I haven't so much as seen the ladies since the incident. I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

ps...i know you try hard to be a good person and look after people but some people cannot be looked after without it turning in to "give them an inch...they take a mile'. due to their circumstance, they are pushing it. prescriptions or other things...they sound addicted and even if they cannot do you harm, they may associate with people who can. find a way to pull back from the situation as nice as you can so you are never a target of them on an addiction rage.

For some reason I just don't peg them as the addict type, even with a lot of rumours going around and some circumstancial evidence. Either way, they don't currently exist in my world other than being my neighbours. For now I don't need to take any further action, however if this persists I'll be the first one calling up the landlord.

darling...hate to tell you this but the ride is a perfect indicator. i think it is probably prescription drugs they are addicted too. not street drugs, but there is still a black market for pills. since they could not get their meds that weekend they may have been in a bad way. hence the story confusion. unable to keep the facts straight while fudging to get a ride. it is also possible different doctors have different info and they are taking stuff that contradicts. that will cause additions too

ps...not the addict type? who thought Rush would turn out to be an addict? not many...yet it happened. it can happen to anyone...well..with all my allergies...not to me cause i can't take anything BUT...anyone who can take pain medicine is at risk of addiction. some people are even addicted to aspirin but at least that won't make ya act all batty...

you were lucky honey. when my Mom had Polio and they had her in the hospital for a long time they pumped her with injections daily. she said even at 14 she knew it was getting bad so she would delay shots longer each time until she did not need them. many became addicted to that drug and still do. i am so glad you did not!

I don't think something like the internet is truly addictive. I think it is already more uncommon for a person to not have a second life online today. Its difficult because there are generations around still that grew up with only the one boring "real" life, but I don't know if I would say I am addicted to life :)

ok...dude...these are people you cannot help. telling the landlord is a good idea. don't tell them the rumors, just tell them about this odd ride to 18/23. you know i have been having health stuff for 2 years but i call friends in advance and ask around to see who can help when it is easiest for them. the fact they knock anytime does suggest severe addiction. if a person cannot have basic consideration, then something is very wrong. and don't answer when they knock...and lock doors!

I don't think excuses will really fend them off, I think the only thing really you can do is just bluntly tell them you can't keep doing it.

You can still be nice about it, and still say "Hey you know, once in a while" but too much is too much.

People know who to take advantage of though, and I think you being nice gave them the idea that they could use you.

It almost comes down to you though.

I wouldn't buy into the drug thing, without proof atleast.

If they keep coming to you at inconvenient times you could tell them you can't keep doing it or make something up like you're waiting for a phone call, guest, or have to be somewhere at a specific time.

Keep your door (and car) locked, if they're on drugs who knows what else they'd do if they get desperate.

Everything stays locked, unfortunately along with the main industry of Oliver being fruit agriculture, a lot of travelling homeless people tend to come here to be fruit pickers. They sleep in the parks and bring drugs and yeah...vandalize and what not. I don't like lying by making excuses, but I'll have no problem telling her not to bother me or the other tenants should it happen again.

I think it was good of you to help them out once or twice, but you're right, it cannot continue, especially if they are going to be manipulative.

It might be a good idea to talk to your landlord about it, maybe ask some of the other tenants or have the landlord talk to the other tenants, and maybe he can confront them or print something out.
