  • Amazing! but what kind of chorizo is that? it seems very soft and creamy... how does it taste like? like minced pork with smokey taste?

    thanks... great videos

  • @ggabesz80

The chorizo is Mexican type, the most common kind available to me.

It is not smoked, it is fresh.

It has powdered dry chilies, vinegar and various spices.

It is a fairly mild sausage and good!

  • Did he say pork cock?!?! LOL!!!

  • @dooshbagme its pork hock dawg hock = feet learn something new everyday bro

  • Good for you for using lard. It's the right thing to do.

  • @DrunknShooter

I can not agree with you more, thanks!

  • @peanutsthyname....no I caught myself trying to lick the screen lol

  • Looks like some real good beans. Some reserved bacon fat is always a fatty flavor I love addding before mashing. Cutting down the lard ofcourse or no lard at all.

  • @Scorpion11381

Awesome idea my friend, thank you Rene!

  • Could we replace lard with something healthier such as butter?

  • @ohemeffgeee

Yes, you can substitute with butter and or even leave the lard out and not replace it with anything.

    Thanks for your questions!

  • These beans would go great on some chips with Nacho cheese. I was hoping you might do an instructional video on making Nacho Cheese sauce. There is a website called ilovenachocheese that has what looks to be a worthy recipe. I'm craving Nacho's with all the toppings and I knew you were the go to man for the job. Thanks, take care.

  • did you use your pressure cooker in the beginning of the video for the beans, or just for a vessel to cook? Awesome dish. My kids loved it. Thanks for posting.

  • @epistrophius

Yes it was a pressure cooker, but I never used the lid.... so just used it as a large pot.

  • @sarahrw16

A pork hock is when they saw the legs of a pig into thick slices.

You can buy it fresh or buy ti smoked...

  • Man oh man that looks like it would be a great start to a taco or burrito.

Keep up the good work Michael!

  • @ToxRoxDu

Thanks... it was a great start to my next day, lol

  • @bladez0rz23 I think pepperoni is a good substitute for chorizo.

  • the way i grew up eating refried beans is with a spot or sourcream ontop

  • @candyflipdhippy

I am with you on that, love sour cream!

  • you have a smudge in the lower lift corner of your screen!

  • manteca sounds way better than lard... lol

  • LOOKS GOOD AS USUAL!!!!! GOOD JOB FREITASEX

  • @evilkate666

If you are evil ... the beans will make you fart, lol.

  • Awesome is there anything you can't cook?

  • @skatexpress

    Yes, for sure.

I do not like to make pie crust too much.

  • i can't even imagine how good that tasted!

  • @2Feet1Wheel

    Aw, thanks.

I was in the mood for beans and this is one of my fav ways, thanks!

  • Nice recipe, and nice calm music in this one

  • Mm...looks tastey...i have been eating beans almost everyday of my life growing up and i have never had them that, just boiled with garlic/onion/bacon/salt/pepper! Might give this recipe a try in the next few weeks.thanks!

  • @SuperBianca86

I hope you do try it... if you do not have one of the ingredients, just leave it out and make the beans with what you have!

  • Could I use some sort of beef or bison or lamb instead of the pork halk? Some of my family members can't eat it because of religious reasons. As always very nice video. The finished product looked REALLY yummy. Thank you for posting this.

  • @XxDominexX they won't be eating it. didn't you watch the vid? he takes it out of the pot. he just uses it for flavoring the water.

  • @lillypad3320 Yes I watched the vid. They can't eat any pork product even flavored water from it. They are extremely devout. If I were to make this I would not be able to use ham halk or chorizo. I would have to find substitutes for both. I know what I could use in place of chorizo, I'm wondering what he would suggest instead of ham halk. Thank you for replying though, I appreciate you trying to help.

  • @XxDominexX

Just proceed without the pork in the beginning and you will be fine, thanks!

  • I love how nobody notices all the new mexican stuff. You think our government has gone out of control? Get ready for them to shove the north american union down our throats!!! And screw us out of our constitution

  • great idea.. thanks!

  • nice vid :)

  • your videos are great, i subbed a few days ago and im enjoying them very much

  • looks delish ...

  • am i the only one that tried to smell the screen? :O

  • I would never have thought that refried beans could look delicious. I bought a can of them once and that was the end of my refried beans adventure. I shall be having another go this way.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @baconsoda

I think you and your wife just may like this, and you do not have to smash them up.

  • You have no clue how happy your videos make me... and my tummy. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

  • That end product is called a sopa - but they use a dense bread - sort of the size of an english muffin but with the texture of a very thick tortilla.

  • @thizizliz Good to see that other people know what this is. My grand-mother make's this wonderfully.

  • @SirGomez81 I've never had homemade sopas but would love to try them. We live in Southern CA where there is more Mexican food than any other - even though we have a wonderfully wide variety available.

  • ah, i dont think we have chorizo in singapore..

  • LOVE CHORIZO!

  • Yummy! I am going to try it but instead of pinto beans I'm going to do it with peruano beans.

  • Hey Mike this looks good, I always wanted to know how it's done/ Thanks.

Have you already posted this recipe some time ago or maybe I watched too many cooking vids and get confused ? :))

  • @SouthernSky

This is my first time for beans :)

  • That looks delicious! I love the idea of chorizo!!! Thx for sharing!~

  • That pan looks aluminum...if so, aluminum is dangerous to cook in. The metal goes into your brain.

  • @muselessjess has that been proven? I'm pretty sure the link between Alzheimers and aluminum is false.

Either that or I have to much aluminum in my brain...brain...brain...

  • That was an interesting way to make refried beans adding the chorizo! I'll have to try that one day! I stopped using lard long ago, but I must admit, it's the lard that gives that certain flavor that nothing else can...:-) Now I want some chorizo and eggs with a side of refried beans and warm tortillas...LOL

  • Very Nice Michael ! Recipe was PERFECT ! I would not change a thing ! Thanks

  • @bertintowncenter

You are way nice, thanks :)

  • whew, now i'm hungry. lol

  • And what do you recommend for another type of bean

  • @OneMoreTime2000

Kidney beans would be fine in this.

    Thank you for your question!

  • Can i use a different type of bean ?

  • That looks yummy ! The refried beans in restaurants must be put thru a blender before they are served? They are always slick smooth with no texture? Your way has a lot of steps but I am sure it is worth it. Thanks for sharing

  • wow looks good, but is there another name for pinto beans? i've never heard them in australia before. what is a substitute for 'chorizo' cant find it here in australia too.

    damnit.

  • @bladez0rz23

Varieties of pinto beans include Álava, Burke, Buster, Grand Mesa, Kodiak, Maverick, Othello and Sierra.

You can also use kidney beans.

    Thanks for your question!

  • @bladez0rz23 I'm in AUS too and you can get both pinto beans and chorizo here :)

  • looks good

  • @kent0149

    Thank you #1
