If the truck driver was so good, he would have seen that his bed was up in the air. We have a dump truck, it isn't that hard. The fall alone should have killed the people that were on the part that collapsed. Its at least 14 1/2 " above the ground. Toss tons of concrete on top and you have fatalities.

I wonder what caused the bet to go up. I have seen that happen on other dump trucks that had a leaky valve. They creep up really slow. It wouldn't have hurt much if one of the cars would have told the driver of the truck by getting in front of him or pointing back at the bed.
