Having criminals in jail is cheaper than dealing with their aftermath when they are out on the streets. Its not uncommon for an active thief to comit 10 or 15 thefts a night, creating a huge workload for the PD in just taking theft reports, not to mention the financial impact on the victim and their insurance companies. Besides, not everything comes down to dollars and cents. Jails were made to house people who refuse to live by the rules of society, and this guy is one of them.
and once the bike is moving it should electrocute the operator (somewhat) once word gets around im pretty sure bikes wont be seen as so appealing to bicycle thiefs anymore.... otherwise at the rate nypd is going theyll never stop the theft problem and just run up taxes by putting more people in jail
i had my bike stolen and it killed me... but 4 years in prison? ouch i hope they give him 2 years instead cause itll cost us tax payers waaaaay too much money to maintain that guy in a cell for 4 years... hell probably come out of jail even worse position and hell have to steel even more [its not like anyone will hire him with a record like that plus he doesnt look too bright.... instead of putting more thief's in jail the gov should allow companies to develop tracking device on bikes
