It's the dealer. My Ford dealer was great. Sure imports are great, they last forever. but my Ranger is a 2003 and is perfect. Could be the dealer or something. But if it's in warrenty you can get a complete refund or threated to sue them. However that light is nothing to worry about. Just annoying to look at. Good luck with everything.
Wow, american mechanics must be so fucking stupid... there is a little connector under the seat. If this comes apart it sends a message to the computer to turn the light on the dash to let you know to take it to a FORD industry. And what they do is connect their pc to it and reset the airbag system. All the light means is that their was a minior fault which occured some time. My guess is that it was the connector coming apart if you took the seat out to put a 2-way unit under it or something.
I have a 2008 Ford Ranger. I too got the air bag light just 10,000mils into having it. It was a connector under the seat they fixed it and I have not had the light come back on. I am now at about 60,000 and it has been a good little truck.
BTW. I drove cars without airbags for a LOOOONG time so if my Ranger airbag light comes on I'll just unplug the problematic fugger. I didn't feel unsafe without them in the 80's and 90's so I'm not going to crap my pants without one now. I've had japanese and domestic vehicles and all vehicle dealers are crooked.
This problem is COMMON on these trucks. It's usually a connector under the seat or a bad clock spring behind the steering wheel. If your horn stops working it's definitely the clock spring.
its just your clock spring. this isnt anything to make u say "buy foriegn". foriegn cars suck. my 2000 lincoln ls has this same issue. it cuts off the horn and cruise control. replace it and u should be good to go.
i have an 04 ford ranger and i specailize in ford rangers and i only see this problem when the tech who install the clocking spring does it incorrectly whitch wears out permuturely. and a clock spring is just a part where the wheres run through. it keeps wires from breaking apart. from the constant turning of the steering wheel.
8skmo8 it's hard to be patient when you're waiting MONTHS for them to solve the issue. They say it's a rarity the problems I'm having, still don't know about it yet. 8 months of warranty left then truck is gone.
Never had that problem. No problems at all with the new ones. It is entirely possible that you have an uncommon manufacturing defect. Rangers are known for their reliability. Maybe you've baffled them with a cursed truck and they are having a bitch of a time figuring it out. It's a pain in the ass, I know, but maybe you just need to be a bit more patient. The major safety feature isn't the airbags, it's the seat-belts, as long as they work and the mechs. say it wont go off, you're good to go.
I don't know if this relates or not but my Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla have an airbag light that turns on to indicate that the passenger airbag is off. It's only lit up if there is small weight on the passenger seat such as books or a toolbox or something.
Do you have stuff on the passenger seat? That would certainly explain why hitting bumps would make the light turn on and off.
clockspring is a plastic piece that has the airbag and othe controls wired to the streering wheel sometimes there supposed to be replaced once the car is 10 years old.

@ShawnD1 you are talking about a different light. These trucks also have the light you are talking about.
