seen howie live in ......91/92 in Toronto ...it was last minute...the guy a few seats over from me was heckling him all night but was still a great night...thanks for the videos
Howie and I both suffer from the same mental condition...as my doctor puts it but I wouldn't call it suffering! We act like this all the time, happy and crazy. I kinda like having mental issues, makes for a great comedy act.
Wow! I do remember him being more zany like this! It's incredible that this is the same bald proper-seeming suave host type we see on America's Got talent and hosting a game show, and rolls his eyes at zany acts on the show!
I love his really quick responses and how crazy (but in a good way) he is when he goes out there. His jokes are awesome but he's good to the point you can tell he didn't practice before going on stage. It was off the cuff
Howie commented in people's faces the way most of us comment behind fake names over the internet. He was one man who did not give a f___. A true r/l troll.
Howie is a great character comedian, with a unique delivery. His ability to interact with the audience and think on his feet is the thing I like best about him.
I, too, have loved Howie since his beginning days as a comic. I was lucky enough to have been in one of his audiences during his Watusi Tour (the one on this tape), sitting in the 3rd row center, and when he'd come down into the audience to interact, you could totally feel the wave of manic energy coming from him :) I've always thought the Watusi Tour was one of his best. Thanks for posting :)
I forgot to mention that altho I loved Howie, I never was a fan of his character, Bobby. Dunno why. But the rest of his material was funny, and his hand and foot movements were hilarious because they were so over-the-top. His hand movements became such a fad then, you could always find someone mimicing them when telling a joke or just goofing off. Even I catch myself doing the hand gestures sometimes, lol. Of course, this was all pre-germophobia, pre-shaved head days -- his best days, imho.
I have loved Howie Mandel since he first came out. What I think is so weird and mind blowing, is, you see him on here, and remember how he use to be. Then, you see him hosting Deal or no deal, what a difference. He's soooooo mellow. Still love ya Howie...
Remember this? Howie's stand-up act used to feature him blowing up a surgical glove and putting it on his head and this led to him being cast as the wacky Dr. Wayne Fiscus on St. Elsewhere for several years.
I meant it in the way I think most people think I meant it. It was not meant to associate the performers with any clinically labeled group of individuals, or vice versa (not sure who would be offended most if I did) and it was not meant to imply that I any way hate these performers. But let's face it, this was an era where most comics were playing characters that had IQ's in the single digits (The Jerk for example was at least border line retarded).
here's a bit of trivia on how Howie Mandel was able to come up with the voice of Bobby. When he was young he accidently chocked on a piece of Birthday Cake and that is the voice that came out...pretty wild!!!
whoever says Howie is on drugs or anything else should exercise thier right to read up on Mr. Mandel. He does not use drugs, nor does he smoke or drink. He in fact is very shy and reserved. He simply is a comical genius
Wow, his early material was really strange. I don't really consider it funny or even clever. However I think people probably appreciate the the bizarre persona. I enjoyed his later Stand Ups though.
What's going on, he seems... not sane, for like of a more polite phrase. Man, he sure mellowed out. To think this is the same guy from Deal Or No Deal.
is this the one from Chicago? I remember in the begging if this is he's walking around Chicago and finds the water tower building...and said "this is the only building that didn't burn during the great Chicago fire...lets see why (strikes a match and presses it on building...match goes out)"see and all asepses building" (i hope thats how you spell asepses)
Of course he doesn't act like this on deal or nodeal, this is a comedy bit! I didn't realize Howie was one of those really weird acting comedians, he must've been one of the first. I think he's still hot.
Love him! I remember seeing this back in '87, I think, and I loved it then too. I've got to watch the rest of it to see the part with "so I looked over yonder onto the dresser... Yonder's my stuffed dog".

Back then he was funny, it was in the context of the crazy 80's, on Conan, his comedic thing came of a bit harsh towards women, but he's cool.
