Well, the reason for that may be that Switzerland is totally bilingual (or quatrolingual, however you wanna see it). If your state's official languages are for example German and French, it really isn't too big of a marvel that you're fluent in 'em, just like I'm fluent in Finnish and Swedish.

Anyhow, last year when I was interrailing I didn't come across with one person that could speak understandable English. And I wasn't visiting any midget towns.

@TheExovaldes just because switzerland has 4 official languages doesn't mean every swiss person speaks all of them. if you grow up in the german part of switzerland you ONLY speak german and you have to learn french, italian, and every other language like everyone else on this planet. and (i'm sorry to say this) you being fluent in finnish and swedish is no big deal either, since you're from finnland.
