Wow... I seriously was ignorant of how useful the SOFLAM is. I unlocked it a while ago and haven't used it even though I probably should have. I had it in my head that the only way it was by setting it down and looking through it as though like binoculars right infront of you and try to lazer target vehicles that way. I had no idea that I could move away from it and still look through it or not be looking through it and having it still target things that are in it's direct line of sight.

@billytamer actually: i noticed the javelin missles can miss their mark if the tank moves fast enough: even if the enemy locks with laser (includes the jet) i think they nerfed the javelin a bit by making it have a limited "air" time or something o.o not too sure though, hoping someone will confirm whether its true or not, but its been happening a lot lately:

@lolchain why not? I use oldschool quake2 keys which were RDFG instead of WASD

this leaves QWETYASHZX open for binding, usins WASD you only have Q TAB CAPSLOCK and SHIFT as bindable on the left of your hand and typically you would use the little finger for hitting those, using RDFG I have 7 keys for my little finger to press.

I love how when you have a laser equipped on your primary, the soflam gets laser too. If its tactical lights, then soflam gets that too :)

i don't get it, if you play javelin, and another marks a trget with soflam, can you fire instantly with javelin? Like a quickscope? O do you have to wait less longer but still needs to lock? What if there are no players using guided missiles? I think it sucks, except for the spotting

it would be really cool if this was an attachment for say like the engineer class where all you have to do is attach it to your rifle and you can designate targets for airstrike.< aka laser designator

Another advantage of the soFlam is using it as a decoy in Operation Metro in the vent system or any distanced hallway corridors. I always get people shooting my soFlam for mirroring a sniper's laser optics.

I wish people would utilize this more. I've used it a few times today and only once did a helo pilot take advantage of it. Last night I was on a map and the gunner in my tank had his set up. I had guided shells and we kept taking out helicopters with it, among tanks and other vehicles. It's really an effective combination if people would use it. Kind of disappointed that the support class gets all the best toys this time around.

The first time I used it, I thought it gave me the oppurtunity to spot from a safe place. Still use it as my personal spotter :)

The soflam also allows the javelin missles to engage tanks from the top where the tank is the weakest and will instantly disable the tank in one shot. Im not sure if it does that for guided missles too but i know for a fact it does with the javelin.

@luneth34 if you're talking about realism then yes, a real life javelin missle would instantly destroy a tank in one shot because of the warhead it contains in the missle. If you're talking about gameplay then yes I guess you're right as long as the tank is weakened. If it is at full health or close to it then no it will not instantly destroy it.

@luneth34 sorry. I just wanted to point out my knowledge of javelin missles to everyone :). Do you guys know a single javelin missle launcher costs around 450,000? and each missle is around 80,000? And in real life a single missle destroys any tank. If it somehow manages to not completely destroy it, then atleast the people inside are dead thanks to the fact that the missle is programmed to penetrate the tanks armor before it explodes.

@sacriel42 often times Soflam mania comes from pent-up aggravation towards pesky choppers. If you play on xbox, try being a defender in Rush on Kharg. The chopper has no other air rival, so thats why the Soflam exists.

@BF3tube How the fuck? The only way you can die from a soflam is the other team uses guided weapons. Only the Usas with frag round is overpowered and the anti air gun. However you can easily kill those fuckers.

@Protantical Yes, because with a SOFLAM the Javelin will go up and attack the top of a tank, where the armor is weaker, thus giving it a damage bonus. Without the SOFLAM the Jav just shoots at whatever side you're pointing it at.

@ I used the soflam for 5 matches after seeing how many people want recons to do this and "help the fucking team" but not a single engineer used a javelin or stinger to take out the helicopters. So by doing what you just said it stopped me from being as helpful, and no I'm not one of those useless recons who just sit at the back of the map all game, don't spot, and maybe get 3 or 4 kills.

this could be EXTREMELY useful for perfectly coordinated squads. if you've got an engineer with javelin, a support class, one person with squad ammo and one person with squad EXPL the enemy team will literally never have any vehicles.

@DarkTravesty03 Equip a PP2000, UMP45 or something similiar and play Rush as defender. Put down a T-UGS and profit. No really. The motion sensor as defender is invaluable. Very easy way to get some recon points.
